Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Handy, you almost have me convinced. Might have to buck it up and take the kids to the IMAX 3D, because if I'm doing this thing in the theater I'm going all the way.

That's the spirit!

For a movie like this, I'd tend to agree. Saw 300 in IMAX, and it was beyond awesome.

Edit: also agree with your added part to your post.

Reeve nailed it because he balanced a sweetness with badassness and everything in between. He was believable in that part despite how unbelievable a role it can be.

Hey I understand if people dont want to see the movie, or if they dont like it. I know I come off as arrogant a lot of the time but in reality I know we all have different tastes. I wanted something no other Superman movie has delivered, a battle that was befitting gods fighting amongst the mortals.

If you do go remember that this is literally Superman: Day 1. This is not not like Christopher Reeve who had 12 years of learning in the Fortress of Solitude in Superman: the Movie. Henry Cavell's Supes is thrown into the deep end right away and it shows.

Brent,

Drunk Superman was awesome :D

You would think the Greatest Superhero of All Time would drink something better than Johnny Walker Red :D

I know! JW Red? Jeezus. That's like wanting a fine beer and ordering up a Coor's Light!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

My girlfriend and I watched Django Unchained this weekend. It was sooooo very Tarantino, and it was great. We both thought it was an excellent movie, but we both also thought it was too long. It could have been 30 minutes shorter, and I think the movie as a whole would have benefitted. I thought the acting was awesome, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and especially Christoph Waltz were all great.

I thought for 100% sure that I would hate Superman (Man of Steel) since Handy liked it so much. After all we pretty much disagree about everything.

I liked it. It lives up to what a comic book superhero movie should be. There are standards now that have to be met and this one delivers.

Glad you enjoyed it Scooby! when I took my father on Fathers day he geeked out hardcore for it! We walked out and he gushed "that was amazing, the critics really missed the boat n this one! Seeing as he has been a Supes fan since the George Reeves days that tells me something :)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Saw "This is the End" recently. Went into this one a little unsure but it was quite good. Interesting concept about everyone playing themselves, so that was cool and heavy on the cameos. Michael Cerra was a good one. There was one part with Jonah Hill that seemed a little strange and out of place.

The only part I didn't like was the many references to Pineapple Express because that was one of the more forgettable movies this group has done IMHO. My suggestion is brush up on the plot of Pineapple Express and you will understand about 15+ minutes of the movie way better than I did.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I made it 5 minutes into Pineapple Express and still felt like I wasted my time ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I thought Pineapple was beyond boring. And before you say "you just don't get stoner comedies" I do. This particular one I didn't care for.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I watched Seven Psychopaths last night. It was ok, but overall I'd say I was underwhelmed. I expected more.

My wife and I snuck into it after seeing/paying for Tropic Thunder. We were actually looking more forward to P.E., but were FAR more entertained by Tropic Thunder. An additional viewing of T.T. wasn't as rewarding, but at the time, it gave me some pretty good laughs.

I agree that P.E. the weakest put out by that group. And I love that group going back to Freaks and Geeks.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall was also out that year and was much better imo.

To Brent's point, I get stoner comedies just fine coz for 11 years... never mind. ;)

The Gangster Squad

You film noir *ers might love it. It was pretty meh for me. Had high hopes for it, too, given the cast.

When I saw the trailer, I was hoping a couple hours of Emma Stone as a vixen/flapper-type would at least make it bearable. Nay?

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Red, the final film in the Three Colors trilogy. It was an incredibly rewarding finish. This one is about brotherhood, about people finding someone new when they weren't even looking. For all the angst and heartache that came before, there is always a chance - for even the most forlorn. Yet it didn't feel cheap, quite the opposite. Smart, thought provoking, wonderful dialogue and brilliantly filmed.

Not really. While her character is key, there's not much of her in the movie.

The Wolf Man (1941)

Still a classic. I have a soft spot for the old arse horror movies. I haven't seen this since I was a little kid, and it still did not disappoint. Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi AND Claude Rains? Yes please. Plus, a younger Ralph Bellamy is a plus.
