New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

I finally saw Walk the Line last night. Wow, I liked it much better than I anticipated.

And I went to see Man of Steel today. It's a good origin-story movie. The critics thought to little of it, on average, and the die-hards think to much of it. If you're the sort to avoid theaters, do yourself a favor if you decide to watch it, and make sure to do so in hi-def.

Walk The Line was great, and I appreciated it more when I learned they sang all the songs themselves. Yup.

White Zombie:
It could have been so much better. It had the story, the tools, and the main actor. Unfortunately, it was a B-movie that tried to take itself seriously. I still enjoyed it, just for the influence it brought forth in future movies, though.

Miller's Crossing:
Pbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt. Pure crap. Shut it off after 45 minutes or so. Couldn't take it anymore.

Day Of The Falcon:
Much like Renee Z in "Appaloosa" (awesome movie), Antonio Banderas' best efforts could not ruin this movie (and I usually like him). About two Arab tribes deciding an area called "The Yellow Belt" was a no-man's land that cannot be claimed. Then some Americans find oil there 15 years later. Let the games begin. Complex story about common-man politics, loyalties, war, love, everything. LOVED the movie. I highly recommend it.

Despicable Me 2 - HY-sterical. Loved it. Now I want to see the first one.

I was disappointed in the first one, don't want to see the second one. On the flipside (since I saw them around the same time), I loved Megamind, and wish there were a second one.

Finished my marathon with TNT Jackson.

Wow. Just...wow. This is on the Dolemite level. Loved it. If one hasn't seen a blaxploitation movie, you're missing out. One of my favorite ones, that is one of the more polished ones, is Black Belt Jones (starring the recently deceased Jim Kelly). This? This is along the lines of the true hardcore, with the lack of production value, acting, story, etc.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off was on one of the hundreds of satellite channels at the lake house this morning. Actually had not seen it in awhile, and forgot quite a few of the little things. The "I Dream of Jeannie" theme playing early on in the movie when sister Jeanie makes her first appearance is hilarious. Also, Mia Sara "seducing" Cameron's dad as cover when their cabs accidentally pull up next to each other. :D

It is quite the classic. Abe Froman, NINE times, the classical symphony of cough noises...beauty.

About Cherry

18YO girl decides to move to SF to escape her crappy home life, and starts an adult film career, and meets people with different motives behind their actions. bbdl had mentioned this movie (I dunno if he had/has seen it yet) to me, and thought I should give it a look. I admit, it looked intriguing. And it was intriguing. As in, how long can this stretch go without anything happening? My God it was slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww and borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. The 1-2 "messages"/purposes of the movie were as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face, too.

My friend and I were basically MST3King the movie, just to make it interesting and add some humor to this bland piece of tripe.
I did see it. It was boring. I was expecting more, from the review that I read when I added it to the queue.

World War Z

Didn't really break any new ground on the Zombie Apocalypse front, but both the wife and I were entertained.

Special Forces

French action/drama about French Special Forces rescuing a kidnapped journalist from the Taliban. This one caught my eye because it has Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) and Diane Kruger (Inglorious Basterds) in it. Given their performances in those movies, I gave this one a whirl. Pretty standard popcorn movie action, but the dramatic moments weren't over the top. It's worth a look-see if you just want to escape for a bit. Both actors did very well in this, too.

Yes, yes, I know the movie loses credibility because the French didn't surrender, but hush. It's a movie. :p

It is Ferris' dad not Cameron's...you never see Cameron's dad :D

I saw Now You See Me...it was ok, could have used a better script for the last half hour or so.

I like how they clearly segued into the the sequel. "The fight is not over, there is still a lot more to do..."

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Well, having some of the original comics (the Eastman and Laird ones, IIRC), the TMNT were quite a bit darker and menacing than the more popular version everyone knows about. I prefer the former to the latter. But aliens? Come on, that's just too much.

I think if you look at the first movie, where they actually used their weapons, that was probably more in line with the comic books. The second movie and on (including the crap cartoon thats on now) have all been pretty much terrible.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Reports are coming in that Sam Mendes has signed on to direct the next James Bond movie. Mendes directed Skyfall.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

As someone who LOVED the Godzilla movies that would be on weekends in the 70s and watched Ultra Man and Spectra Man, I gotta say that Pacific Rim holds a lot of interest for me. Especially since GDT directed instead of our buddy Michael Bay.

Probably go Sunday night although the boy seems lukewarm at best.

Started looking around...

Remember this one?

I do. And Johnny Sokko... :D

It looks like it should be quite the enjoyable looking popcorn flick. thinking about seeing it Saturday night after work myself.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Went to Despicable Me 2 last night. Girlfriend wanted to go, since she loved the first one. I had seen the first one, and it wasn't terrible for a cartoon, so I surprised her with a dinner and a movie night. The movie was ok, I thought the first one was better. Most of the very large crowd seemed to enjoy it, lots of laughing and positive comments while leaving. I'm probably not the best one to judge it, just because I don't really care for cartoons. The little yellow things are by far the best/funniest part of the movie, just like with the first one.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Insert Random Retread Of A Plot

Long week, very tired...and then Sundance offers up Identity followed by Snatch? UNFAIR. I own both, but they are way over there...
