Or they could be pumping out another gas that doesn't work for humans to breath in. I believe they mentioned why shortly after Jake arrived on the planet.
I don't know man, one thought I had that wouldn't have make the Biochemistry really crazy would be that Pandora just has too high of a CO2 concentration for humans to be able to breath out CO2. That would kinda explain why Jake kinda looks like he's drowning at the end of the final battle there.

How does that movie make anyone "feel good" about anything? I mean, it makes you think about things, but it was weird and depressing, I thought anyways.

Caddyshack 2 is not a very good movie.

Either way it's just the atmosphere of the planet being hostile to human life, and there's no requirement that plants on pandora would function the same as plants on earth.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Finally got around to seeing Pelham 123 last night.

Not a terrible movie. Not a great movie.

Pretty predictable story line for the most part. I've always been a Denzel fan so I enjoyed some of the parts where his character came out.

John Travolta doesn't do it for me anymore I guess.

Avatar - meh. Great visually, but there was cliched dialogue, cliched characters, as already noted before it was DWW in space, it was annoying they simply took humans and made them taller and bluer (did the women really need breasts?), they gave hyenas and panthers armor or metallic skin, horses 6 legs, etc., etc., etc. I was simply annoyed throughout the entire movie.

The old one has a Taxi Driver scent-of-urine 70's ambiance. The new one's slicker but has no character. Much like the evolution of NYC itself -- the difference between Walter Matthau and Denzel says it all. (And before the angry city urchins start, I'd choose to live in 2009 NYC over 1974 NYC any day. I like my garbage workers not on strike.)

Revolutionary Road is such a terrible movie that I felt compelled to get online and post this from my phone because my cable modem isn't working right. If I wanted to watch a suburban couple argue for two hours I'd go visit my parents. The last 15 minutes saved it from sharing the "nothing happens" label with The Thin Red Line but even so it was tremendously dull.

City Hall:

It was okay. Decent enough story, bordered on becoming an action flick, but then pulled back at the last second, which I appreciated (I was starting to get the "oh, no, they're not gonna do that, are they?" feeling). A little too quick of an ending, they probably could have added a tiny segue from the big closure scene of the movie and the follow-up epilogue scene.

Pacino yell in effect, but not as much as usual. ;)

It's worth a weekend afternoon rental/rainy day rental.

From the "movies I should have seen 15 (or so) years ago" category, I finally saw "Animal House" this past weekend (on the urging of 'ewe's entire family, from her parents to her 17-year-old brother). Yeah, if my first sentence didn't tip you off, I ended up realizing that I should have watched it many many years ago. Hilarious and awesome.

EDIT: In other news, 'ewe's family bought me the "Scorsese Collection", a 5 DVD boxed set containing: "Goodfellas" (which I already owned, but this is the 2-disc edition, so I finally have the movie on one disc), "Mean Streets", "After Hours", "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", and "Who's that Knocking at my Door". I've always wanted to see "Mean Streets", and am intrigued by the last three. Now I just have to find the time to watch them all.

JFC. As a sort of little kid growing up, I remember watching that with the family (censored of course, on TBS or something like that) on New Year's Eve (who also played The Blues Brothers right before Animal House that night; it was an annual thing with TBS).

"Maybe she'll take THIS seriously..." :D

It's one of my dad's favorite movies of all time. (I have a sneaking suspicion that his frat was not unlike the Deltas... ) We watch it together at least once a year - my dad can quote the whole movie, though he held back due to tcbg's presence.
