Added note: the Russian boss (the old guy) was magnificient, in a very understated way. He really carried himself whenever he was on-screen.

Agreed. Those were my favorite scenes of the movie. I like my villains chilling.

I got the Criterion DVDs of "Vampyre" and "M" for my birthday. Lots of fun extras, I haven't had a chance to watch them yet, but a cool wife is a joy forever.

We watched "Righteous Kill" last night. I never knew DeNiro and Pacino were that hard up for money. What a righteous pile of crap.

That movie sucked. I was expecting it to be decent since it was DeNiro and Pacino.

I take it you haven't seen any of Pacino's movies the last 20 years? :D

I liked Pacino in The Devil's Advocate, and Scent of a Woman. He was pretty good in Heat too, but I thought DeNiro ruled that flick.

Heat was a perfect combo of the two along with just the right amounts of the supporting cast.

I thought Righteous Kill was fine until the end. The ending was stupid and ruined the movie. Carla Gugino (or however you spell it) was nice though :D

I was happy to see that my theater actually got Crazy Heart this weekend, and I was even happier after watching it. Fantastic performance out of Jeff Bridges, great music, good supporting roles out of Gyllenhaal (better than I expected out of her), Duvall, and Farrell. Jeff will completely deserve it if he wins Best Actor.

I had been looking forward to Crazy Heart, and finally caught it yesterday. Bridges made a pretty good story an excellent movie. Absolutely deserving of the award if he gets it. Agree on the supporting cast, they all did a very good job, and there was nothing overdone in the movie. It was pretty simple and driven by Bridges' performance.

Finally saw Rear Window and it is worth every bit of the hype and praise it's received. Part drama, thriller and romance I thought the Steward/Kelly combo was perfect and I'm inspired to check into other Hitchcock movies I haven't yet seen.

One of my favs...

You pretty much can't go wrong with Vertigo, Psycho, The Birds, or North By Northwest. Usually considered his peak since all 4 were made in succession. That being said there are quite a few other gems out there to see if you look.

Strangers on a Train
Notorious (Ingrid Berman's best Hitchcock performance)
Rebecca
Dial "M" for Murder (Grace Kelly's best Hitchcock IMO)
Lifeboat
EDIT: How did I forget Frenzy?

Many consider Shadow of a Doubt his best film. I'm not one of them, but I'll list it anyway cause other opinions certainly are valid. Some like Suspicion as well but I wasn't that into it.

And if you really want to run the Gauntlet you can do what I did and watch 33 of the 53 films he was the director on. Totally up to you. :)

The newly renovated Collins Center for the Arts on the UMaine campus has been showing classic Hitchcock movies for $6 on Saturday nights. Haven't had a chance to make it up myself yet, but wish I could.

I looked.

Alfred Hitchcock Film Series

Psycho - 1/9 Frenzy - 1/13 Rear Window - 1/30 Topaz - 2/6 Vertigo - 2/3 The Trouble with Harry - 3/6 Torn Curtain - 3/13 The Birds - 3/20 Tickets are $6 AT BOX OFFICE ONLY

Interesting choices sprinkled in with the classics. The two spy/espionage/coldwar movies Topaz and Torn Curtain leave much to be desired. The Trouble with Harry is a black comedy that has at least some great cinematography and is Shirley Maclaine's first film.

Still, I wish someone around here would do something like that. Watching them on the big screen in a theater would be a new experience.

Re: New/Rented movies: Here comes the movie to change all movies

Watched "Catch and Release" - little flick, part romantic comedy, part drama. Stars Jennifer Garner, Kevin Smith, and Timothy Olyphant. I really enjoy it and think it's overlooked. :)

I'm looking forward to watching "The Invention Of Lying" this weekend. Something's wrong with me, I think.

Rented Pandorum tonight. It actually turned out to be better than I was expecting. Decent twist and turn in story. Some predictable, some not. Solid Sci-Fi.

Depends. Are you a single, late-20s, decent looking but no great shakes, middling-achievement career woman worried about your rapidly fading attractiveness and reproduction chances?

 Is there something wrong with that?

No. Crap.:(

After seeing the trailer, it looked funny: dude gets ahead in life by lying his arse off. And gets some from a girl he shouldn't be getting any from.
