Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I did not see either of these two movies, so I'll change him from an "F" to Incomplete (and given the diverse recommendations, I'll give them a shot).

Oh yeah, since it's been on all weekend; Cage is also decent in National Treasure, which itself is way more enjoyable than it has any right to be (the sequel sucks, though). Frankly, National Treasure makes for a better Indiana Jones 4 than the actual Indiana Jones 4.

I like the National Treasure movies. The first one is much better than the second, but I didn't think the second sucked.

I agree...the second one was a step down but not as much as say temple of Doom was to Raiders of the Lost Ark ;)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Watched a couple movies over the last couple days:

Letters From Iwo Jima: pretty darn good. Didn't know much about it going in, and was kind of surprised it was mostly in subtitles. Very good movie, and can't wait to see its companion movie Flags Of Our Fathers (which is arriving this week; wanted to watch them close together to keep everything fresh in my mind).

Throne Of Blood: Akira Kirusawa's take on MacBeth, set in feudal Japan. Excellent. Every Akira movie I see, my fandom of his grows.

I saw Flags in the theater and liked it a lot, then bought Letters on DVD at a used place for something like $5. I thought it was the better movie. That said, the battleship scene at the beginning of Flags was amazing in the theater. I've got a decent set-up for my home entertainment center, but it's nothing like seeing a film in the theater...

Watched Ninja Assassin last night. A pretty good martial arts flick. The first kill really sets the tone for the movie. They all sitting there laughing at the old man about how freaked out he was about ninjas and then that dudes head just pops off in a bloody mess.

Most ridiculous thing about Die Hard II: How the crashed plane (the one flown by Colm Meaney) explodes in a massive fireball even though it was almost entirely out of fuel.

Most ridiculous thing about Die Hard: Bruce Willis doesn't recognize "Christmas In Hollis" when he hears it in the limo.

Christmas in Hollis?

Oh JFC. But you like the wave, didn't know who Wally Pipp was, and have never seen Christmas Story. I shouldn't be surprised.

Christmas Story

Did you break your 8.5 hour record by the way? I got one complete veiwing in on Christmas eve and several partial views on Christmas day. Too much other stuff to do. Plus my brother and dad are party poopers and always gave me crap when I tried to put it on.

Yep. 9 hours, 20 minutes. I struggled a little around 1am (6 hour mark) but I got a second wind.

And dx, lots of stuff I think ruled (and know about) was before my time. No excuse.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I figured you were just going to come back with a picture of one or the other.

I don't want to see a pic of Rimbaud or a yellow bird. Sorry. :p

And to stay on topic: Crocodile Dundee II is on AMC. Good 80's movie, meh movie overall. Definitely a popcorn movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Just watched True Grit. The new one, with Jeff Bridges. The girl that played Maddie was excellent. I hope she gets an Oscar nom. The movie was entertaining. I never saw the John Wayne version. I read that this version is more true to the book than the John Wayne version was.
