New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I echo the sentiments on Moon. Truly awesome.

I liked it, but I have a stupid question (whited out just to be the nice guy I am, for people who haven't seen it):

Sooooooo, what in the heck did Lunar tell Sam 1, assuming he thought he was going to the moon? Or did Sam 1 complete his contract and go home, and Lunar cloned him during his contract? And I'm still not sure I find the aid that Gerty gave Sam 5 and 6 plausible, unless Sam 5 and 6 just happened to ask the "right" questions that triggered the answers in Gerty (since Gerty is a computer and all).

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

My guess:

Part of his contract that he allowed himself to be clone.

Regarding the 5 and 6 quesitons, couldn't tell you. I need to watch that movie again.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Heh. Totally forgot Viggo Mortensen was in Young Guns II. :D It's on CMT right now.

Edit: And JFC, COMPLETELY forgot about Lalin in Carlito's Way!

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I posted things yesterday that I don't want to repeat....

but just know that I was right.

Memento:

What a mindf*. Must see again. Awesome. Nolan has a gift of directing, that's for sure. I will say he's become a bit more direct in his plot twists (refined them, studio directives, I dunno) but this movie definitely broke new ground in its storytelling. Seeing Inception before this movie makes me believe that he has come full circle and prefers this kind of vague-ending type of movie.

Not only do I say "Watch this," I say "Buy this."

Have you seen Following? It's also great, but Memento is the best Nolan's ever done and one of the best movies I've ever seen. It also stands up to repeated viewings which most "twist" movies don't. (She is a he.)

We own it and we still watch it when it's on tv. I love it and I'm still not quite sure what's going on in the movie. :)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I watched a German take on Snow White called 7 Dwarves the other day. Kinda quirky fun. Nothing you should rush out to see or anything.

Thanks Netflix.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Movies I've watched over the last week or so

Yeah's
Machete
Red Eye
Spartan
Snatch
Inception

Meh's
Class Action
Se7en (disappointing ending)
Kiss the Girls (ending busted on Mythbusters)
The Contract
Step Brothers (would have been better if they didn't play the brothers as simpletons)
The Kids Are All Right (a rather flat ending, IMO)
Ice Age: The Meltdown
Magnolia (w t f)

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I love Class Action...watch it every time I see it on.

Snatch blew...like a drunk girl on prom night.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Snatch was awesome. Why do you hate everything good in this world? ;)

Seriously though, Snatch was a great movie.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I would sooner cheer for the BADgers than watch Snatch ever again. Hell even thinking about that movie gives me the red ***. :p

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Snatch ... that title was seriously misleading.

:D

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

The Social Network was another piece of Fincher brilliance. For as unappreciated Zodiac was, he'll get his accolades for this in a big way.

Can someone explain what's so great about The Social Network? Just watched it last night, and it was an interesting story, but not much more. Eisenberg was good (but not great), however no other character stood out in any way and there was nothing at all special about the way the movie was shot or the story was told. I saw nothing that made me have any desire to watch the movie again - something I consider a true necessity for a "great" film. As far as the Facebook story? I really hadn't ever paid attention to any of the back-story before, so it did a good (fair?) job of telling it, but now that I know the story, why do I need to watch it again? What am I missing  ?
