Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I just started watching the Transformers sequel. I have a strong feeling that it's going to suck - maybe because everyone seemed to agree that it sucked.

So it continues where the first one started?

Seriously, it's really bad when a show created just to sell toys is far superior to some big budget hollywood movie.

Pretty much this.

One saving grace: Rainn Wilson being the "hot" professor is hilarious.

Kick-Ass

Didn't know what to expect, and wow, awesome movie. The little girl character made it really *ed up and hilarious. Even if you're not into comics (like me), it's great. Definitely a good popcorn movie.

When I saw the preview for the third one it got a collective groan from the audience. I never wasted time on the first two so I laughed :D

1st one was an entertaining popcorn flic, second one was a steaming pile o' crap. 3rd one is gonna be even worse, which of course means it'll be #1 at the box office.

Hold on, so, the thing they're looking for is at the temple where they kept the holy grail?

This.

I was roped into the first one by my daughter and enjoyed it (it is what it is). The second one was mailed in crap.

The only reason I liked the first was Megan Fox. Yeah, that's about it. It wasn't even bad enough to be "crappy good" (see: Dude, Where's My Car?). What a pile of sh*. I'm not even bothering with the second, and I don't care if Megan Fox is nekkid. Not worth it.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Megan Fox is not God's gift to man. She has the skin of a 40-year-old smoker who's tanned four times a week in a salon. Plus the drivel that comes out of her mouth. It's just distilled stupidity. She's ok, but nothing great.

My name is Handyman and I approve this message. She is vastly overrated.

I've not seen trailers for #3 yet, but I have to hope that it will be better than #2. #2 suffered from the writers' strike, where Michael Bay pretty much took a partially completed script and filled in the rest. Assuming they got the original writers back from #1, I'll hold out hope. That said, I'm not expecting Masterpiece Theater here, or even the Matrix. I'm looking for a fun popcorn theater flick.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Saw Burn After Reading over the weekend. It was pretty good mainly because they got all sorts of quirky details of the DC area exactly right (the Cox' house decor and their mannerisms, e.g., were dead on for who their characters were -- you see them at Wegman's every weekend). It also has one of my all-time favorite actresses (Tilda Swinton) doing a comedic turn for once. And Malkovich is always perfect. Semi-recommend, B-, plus a half grade if you do defense-intel and another half if you're a Beltwayer.

I haven't seen a decent preview (except the All Sorts of Awesome Cowboys and Aliens) in months. This looks like it is going to be a terrible year for movies. It's a Bond year at least, right?

#2 also suffered from being 45 minutes too long, which is all the funnier if indeed it was thrown together without the help of writers. Seriously, no summer action/FX blockbuster needs to be longer than 2 hours.

Nope - MGM's bankruptcy filings put the new Bond movie on hold.

The last 5 minutes of Burn After Reading had me in tears, otherwise it was meh. And I'm not sure about Cowboys And Aliens. I saw the trailer once, and was asking myself, "are they *ing serious?"

TF is wrong with you, Dude Where's My Car? was awesome.

As far as Megan Fox goes, Isabel Lucas was hotter.

Agree with you about Burn After Reading though, expected more from a cast that good.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Green Hornet looks terrible, Cowboys vs. Aliens looks "eh" and the rest look like crap. Pretty much the only movie I am looking forward to is Green Lantern. (and I am really looking forward to that)

BTW I heard that MGM has restructured and is fine now but Bond is still on infinite hold.
