New Poll Predictions for 2/1

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

<strike>Try voting RIT #1;)</strike>

Even better: try voting the Rowdy Crowd #1:D

Team RC won't do any talking until after we win the thing. Quiet focus on the RC pond hockey front as we were put in a difficult group.

From last year:

Quarterfinals: Pincherry Lake Loons 9 Rowdy Crowd 7
Semifinals: Pincherry Lake Loons 5 D&B's 4 (ot)
Finals: Dumpster Divers 4 Pincherry Lake Loons 3

We beat Dumpster Divers 13-8 in group play and avoid them, but Pincherry and D&B's are both in our group of six. We avoid D&B's in group play but play Pincherry in game #3. Know nothing about our first two opponents.

Pincherry really takes it on the chin as they have to play us and D&B's. Some treatment for the defending runner-up.

That said, we are again far better than last year and for the first time ever, are flat out legitimately not going there to lose. Hours and hours of preparation have been put in...we'll know how much it paid off in about 13 days.

Record by year:

2006: 0-3 (26-6L, 27-7L, 19-8L)
2007: 0-3 (28-6L, 15-9L, 17-7L)
2008: 2-1 (15-13W, 13-9W, 8-7L)
2009: 3-1 (13-8W, 16-8W, 8-2W, 9-7L)
2010: TBD

I seriously haven't seen a better looking classic sweater. I wish Elmira would go back to threads like those.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

Norwich has played well enough for first place votes, but only if this was a different year. They are a great team, no doubt about that easily the second best team after Oswego but, Compare there season with Oswegos.

First off they both played Plattsburgh twice, Oswego beat them both times once at home and on the road. Norwich beat them once and tied them, both at home. As for other big games Norwich routed an decent Stout team, beat a good Amherst team and a decent Curry team. All nice wins, But they also had some tough ties along with the Platty game, a tie against Babson just last Sat, one against a good Colby team and One against a Potsdam team that Oswego beat twice.

Oswego does have one loss to a really good Elmira team that should be in the Tournament, but also beat that Elmira team twice, granite both at home. Also they beat Platty both times they met, Beat a decent Fredonia team twice, beat an average Hobart team and a tournament bound Adrian team. On top of that most they have beaten the teams they are suppose to while routing most of them along the way.

I have nothing against Norwich easily could be number one if Oswego wasn't who they are this year but they will be easily in the tournament and quite possibly be playing an Oswego team for a rematch of the 2003 title match.

Simply put Oswego's resume is just slightly better and they deserve a unanimous #1 ranking this week at least.

I couldn't agree with you more. It was said earlier this year, I think by Russell...the polls are a lot of "what have you done for me lately." Well Oswego beat a top 5 team. Norwich tied unranked Babson, who didn't receive a vote. Plattsburgh dropped a spot in the poll last week because of a tie to a ranked team (Williams). People are all different though, and think in different ways, so you never know. I guess this is the way I would vote.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

Bias aside here, anyone that doesn't vote Oswego #1 just hasn't watched them play this season.

I will vote OSWEGO number one this week :( but last night I never heard the fat lady sing on account of all the noise the Sweegie fans were making.:) :)

PS Never confuse rational judgement with a belief.

Hey, you had your chance to buy and you didn't. :)

What's funny is that we went through SP Apparel, so there's a "SP" logo on the back. Go figure...

Have you watched Norwich?????????????????????

My computer rankings show Oswego is ahead of Norwich, but to say what you said is nonsensical unless you have also seen Norwich, which is an incredibly impressive team to see. That's a silly criterion.

Leave it to Prez to like a team based on their fashion.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

I may be a rookie on this board, but having seen Oswego@Elmira, Elmira@Manhattanville, the Pathfinder Tournament, Adrian@Oswego and Plattsburgh@Oswego, I have some thoughts...

1) Leis spits out rebounds like a 5 yr old spits out broccoli
2) Elmira is every bit as good at the other two
3) Oswego is the best of the 3 - but by the slimest of margins
4) Whiteout was all that is great about D3 sports, gloves on fire and all...

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

I see the Prez has Elmira at #6, just remember they won two this past weekend - that should drop them to at least #8 based on last weeks poll.

1) Leis spits out rebounds like a drunk spits outs their cookies (projectile) (a glove:confused: What is that for?)
2) Elmira has the talent to be every bit as good at the other two (watch out for 2010-11)
3) Oswego is the best of the 3 - but by the slimest of margins
4) Whiteout was all that is great about D3 sports, gloves on fire and all...

Fixed your post :p

Having attended Plattsburgh hockey games for over 25 years, I have to say this past weekend's Whiteout was the best of this century, while there weren't the sustained chants and "hooting" of the “glory years”. I previously said the current cheering sections weren’t 25% of they used to be, well, the Whiteout reached 50% - maybe a little more. Oswego certainly had a significant and psyched student turn out and they deserve Serious Recognition for doing so.

Leis is good, very good, but he has a weakness that I believe he can cure.

wow hit the nail on the head, i agree big time, wow did he spit out rebounds, that was his big problem......would love to see lakers play norwich on a regular basis, mostly because my dad went there and I to Oswego..

Its not meant on a slam against Elmira, but Leis gave up huge rebounds that game and as I said, if Leis does this against a team that puts the puck in the net, he will get lit up. He is normally pretty solid on the first shot, but his rebound control (and their the lack of) causes him to make spectacular saves like we saw in Elmira.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

Oswego will get all the votes, as they should and Middlebury will move up to around 9th

1.Oswego
2.Norwich
3.St. Norbert
4.Plattsburgh
5.St. Scholastica
6.Elmira
7.Amherst
8.Williams
9.Gustavus Adolphus
10.Hamline
11.Adrian
12.Middlebury
13.Manhattanville
14.Wentworth
15.River Falls

I dont know if RF still deserves to be ranked with seven losses but I found a hard time trying to find a team to be put in over them. Curry lost to Babson on Tuesday or I probably would have thrown them in.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

For Oswego and Norwich, I've only seen parts of a game for each this year, so I'm not going to get involved in the discussion of "Who's #1?".

I'm posting since this is a poll prediction bracket, and I feel like predicting a poll.

Code:
 1	Oswego
 2	Norwich
 3	St. Norbert
 4	St. Scholastica
 5	Elmira
 6	Plattsburgh
 7	Amherst
 8	Williams
 9	Middlebury
10	Hamline
11	Gustavus Adolphus
12	Adrian
13	Manhattanville
14	Wentworth
15	?

-Since I've never actually tried predicting one of these polls, I may be overestimating how many spots one team loses by losing. Besides that, some observations:

-Oswego has held down the #1 spot for the last few weeks. Considering the results, they should be able to maintain it.

-I said Middlebury was overrated last week. They responded with as good of a week as they could have had, with convincing wins over Colby and Bowdoin. Maybe moving up three spots is too much. But then again, this is Middlebury we're talking about.

-On the other side of the coin, I felt Colby was underrated all season. Last week, they finally broke into the top 15, and responded with as bad a week as they could have had, losing to Middlebury and Williams.

-There's no way Colby will be ranked this week. So a team must enter the poll. The first in line (based on last week's votes) is Wentworth, who won all three of their games this week (albeit, against really bad teams). I have them re-entering the poll at #14.

As much as I tried, I couldn't think of anyone to put in the #15 spot. Almost everyone waiting in line to get in didn't perform so well this week. Here's a list of all the bubble teams (and a few others):

-UW-River Falls (12-7-2, #21 in KRACH, #20 in NU Prof's rankings, 43 votes in last week's poll) - Lost to St. Scholastica, giving them 7 losses on the season. Should they be ranked with this many losses?

-Curry (13-5-1, #20, #14, 13 votes) - Got two wins against J&W and Becker, but lost to Babson.

-Bowdoin (10-5-1, #14, #18, 12 votes) - Tied Williams and lost to Middlebury, not a very productive week.

-Fredonia (15-5-0, #10, #25, 5 votes) - Won their only game this week against Buffalo State. Their body of work over the season may not be good enough to get them ranked.

-UW-Superior (8-10-3, #35, #30, 4 votes) - 0-1-1 week and 1-8-2 in their last 11. Still don't know how they got any votes last week.

-UW-Stout (9-8-4, #23, #16, 2 votes) - 0-1-1 week as well. They play a very tough schedule, but voters may not take that into consideration when they see that record.

-Trinity (10-6-2, #17, #12, no votes) - Lost to D-II St. Anselm this week. Sort of in the same boat as Stout (tough schedule, but not the greatest record).

-Hamilton (9-6-2, #16, #22, no votes) - Beat Southern Maine and UNE this week. Stuck in the same boat as Stout and Trinity.

-Fitchburg State (13/14-3-1, #13, #15, no votes) - Yeah, right.

So, that's what I've come up with this for this week's poll. After looking at the all of the teams, I came up with my own ballot. Only problem is that I bet it's drastically different enough to have people run me off the forums if I tried posting it. Oh, well.

I think you're dead on with the Middlebury thoughts. The more I looked at it they are definitely going to be in the top 10. 9th or 10th i would say. I dont think they jump Williams but you never know.

MCullen,

I had a very tough time with the #15 spot as well.

In a perfect world, I think Fredonia should get it.

Sure they haven't really beat any great teams, but they have beaten the teams they should and many other teams in the country can't say that.

They've been pretty competitive in every one of their losses to minus the one to Plattsburgh. Four of your five losses to Oswego (2), Elmira, and Plattsburgh isn't too shabby at all.

Especially when the Blue Devils were very very close to Oswego both times and Elmira.

If I was voting, I'd put them in but I just don't think they'll get enough votes to get in. I think River Falls holds on but just barely.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 2/1

Interesting, either two voters put Norwich 3rd or one put them 4th.

My guess would be two putting them third. It's awfully hard to justify Norwich in fourth.

I could see St. Norbert pilfering a few second place votes because of name recognition.

Then again you could have a western voter that basically sees St. Scholastica and St. Norbert as the same team given their nearly identical records and thus moves them together to two and three and drops Norwich to fourth.

I really put too much thought into why the voters vote the way they do and why they put Team A over Team B in certain places!:o

ahh well...It's all in good fun and generates some good discussion. Can't wait for the REAL rankings that matter to start coming out in the middle of this month.
