New Poll Predictions for 1/24

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

Yeah Ive looked at Plattsburghs schedule too, but thanks anyway. Why doesnt someone actually address the issue?

Middlebury is going to try on 2/1; they are Plattsburgh’s last out-of-conference opponent this regular season. ;)

So what, we should go play inferior teams and win all of our games to pad the stats?? Yea that's logic?? In all seriousness little Salve Regina has beat everyone in the last poll

Plattsburgh is undefeated out of conference, and is riding the longest undefeated streak in DIII at the moment (with Castleton right on their heels). Yes, Plattsburgh gets a boost in respect when it comes to rankings, but that's because it is a program that has consistently proven that it will overachieve when its talent level is insufficient, and rarely underachieves. Part of that is how great Bob Emery is at getting the absolute best out of the players who are willing to work with him. And most of the players he recruits are willing to do just that.

But despite this boost in respect, Plattsburgh fell out of the rankings earlier this year when they were losing. Pretty much every Plattsburgh fan on this board (yes, even Remy) conceded that they probably should have dropped out of the rankings at least a week earlier than they did. But now they are one of the hottest teams in the nation, and they are getting respect in the polls, not because they are Plattsburgh, but rather because they are earning it. I promise you, if Plattsburgh takes 1 loss to a SUNY team whose name isn't Oswego, I will thoroughly advocate a significant drop in the rankings for the Cardinals. They wouldn't deserve to be ranked that highly anymore. But until that happens, they are getting the respect they deserve.

Well, if you have looked at Plattsburgh's schedule then it should be obvious. The non-conference opponents for Plattsburgh currently have a 57-49-13 record. The non-conference opponents for Plymouth have a record of 18-68-8. How in the world would anyone know how good Pymouth is? They have not played one single team out of conference this year that has a winning record.

The fact you are automatically are willing to dismiss a team with one loss should tell everyone here everything they need to know.

All good points and I have already said Plattsburgh is a good team and I don't think I've slighted them a bit. Since sticknstones can't figure out either allow me to repeat myself. Why is it considered scripture here that Plattsburgh is a top team while there is no discussion whatsoever about a team like one loss Plymouth State. That's what I'm wondering but god forbid you have the audacity to suggest a sacred cow gets an automatic pass. Also, Plattsburgh does not have the longest undefeated streak in d3. Plymouth State does.

This was a trivia question in the Norwich SID office last week...

I thought for sure Mr. Crosby would never guess Plymouth State. But, he nailed it on the first try after thinking for a few moments and I told him it wasn't Castleton.

Salve Regina (1-13-1) is better then #1 Oswego (17-2-0) and everyone else in the top 15!

You want us to talk about Plymouth State sure....they've beat a bunch of high school (no ofense Joe and Salem) teams and for that they have a bunch of wins and not a lot of losses. Ive been around this leauge for more then 20 years. Anyone thats been around more then 5 can tell you thats EXACTLY why Plymouth State has not recieved very much credit. And its not just me, the pollsters have no put Plymouth State in for the same reason. Put up those numbers against mediocore competition and they might get a few more votes, doing it against teams several DIII womens teams would and could beat is nothing to be proud of.

Jan 3rd poll they recieved votes BTW

Not to inject myself here, but if you actually believe those two items you have paid attention to hockey for precisely zero of the more than 20 years you reference.

If you can't figure out why Plymouth is not ranked, nor doesn't receive any credit, I feel sorry for you. Like Remy said, they did receive votes in the past, which is actually some credit, and enough credit. You want Plymouth to start receiving some credit, call the AD or the coach and have them schedule some games against the teams Plattsburgh faces. Have them face the same exact schedule and see how they do. If they come out of it at this point 13-4-1, with 2 wins over Norwich, a win over Neumann, Geneseo and Williams, and a tie against Elmira, Plymouth would be ranked, probably even higher than Plattsburgh is right now, no doubt.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

BANG!!! Seriously, I don't have a problem with this poll. For what this poll is worth (which is nothing beyond our discussions here), it seems pretty reasonable to me.

Glad the goal lights are working now. Gives your arm a break now from having to raise that paddle all day. ;)

Re: New Poll Predictions for 1/24

So you are telling me that Castleton at 15-2 with a win over Norwich and plays in the same conference as Norwich meaning that 80% of their season schedule is identical is ranked below them? I am not a mathematician but I don't understand how that works. I think Norwich is a great team don't get me wrong but they are 11-5-1 with a loss to Castleton at home. How can they be ranked above them. Especially after Norwich comes off a loss to Wesleyan this weekend.
