I don't know when the Tournament Speculation thread will come about, but is it possible that the ECAC West and SUNYAC could get three teams in? This depending on if Geneseo finishes strong.

No need for Plattsburgh fans to chime in, any who reads this knows how absurd this is. Plattsburgh over the last month or so is playing as well if not better than anyone in the country. They have no losses in their non-conference schedule to this point (which would lead you to believe their SUNY opponents have been every bit as tough as their non-conference opponents considering all of the Cardinal's losses are to SUNY competition).

Three teams from each conference? Impossible. The SUNYAC champ gets the Pool A bid, and a West team receives the Pool B, that only leaves 3 Pool C bids remaining...

And all loses were with in the first 8 games of the season 2 wins over the #3 team, 1 over the #6, 1 over (?) Neumann, 1 tie with (?) Elmira, 1 over the #7, will be 1 over the #1 ;) jk Nope deffently not a top 15 team haha. I only wish we could be like those other teams out there.

Outside of Cortland and Brockport (okay and Potsdam on undisciplined nights) can be either very dangerous or just your average Joe. As much as I wish it wasn't, I still think Plattsburgh is everyone's "big" game in the SUNYAC. Oswego is a close second if not tied, but when anyone plays a Plattsburgh or Oswego you will most likely be getting their A game.

Doubtful. If Oswego and Plattsburgh finish out the regular season with no more loses (other then who ever loses the OSU/PSU game) I only see those two making it in. I still think its possible for Plattsburgh to lose to Oswego (twice even) and still make the NCAA's. Oswego will need to lose to Plattsburgh, and probably 2 or 3 other games to not get an at large bid. Castleton could be a lock if they only lose two more. There really isnt a major front runner in any league, so if upsets happen it will be toss up who gets the other bids.

I didn't mean to imply that Plattsburgh isnt any good as that obviously isn't the case. But the traditional powers get the benefit of the doubt all the time and the SUNYAC has not been very impressive this year. For example, aside from being a "name" how does anyone know Plattsburgh is any better than a team like Plymouth State? One is assumed to be top flight and the other is largely dismissed? What for? Does a program like Plymouth State getting no attention only happen because there is some relationship between number of posters in the forum and the perceived quality of a team?

You are correct, we have no way of knowing if Plattsburgh is as good as Plymouth State as they have not played. To that point, I guess it is fair to take it one step further and ask how do we know Oswego or St. Norberts is as good as Plymouth State.

ok ok...maybe Plymouth is as good as the Devils this year:p

I am sure you were an advocate for Lebanon Valley back in the day and Adrian their first year too...... :rolleyes: Maybe we should turn our season into a 80 game season so we can play everyone once with a few teams twice...but then if one team goes 1-1 and another goes 1-0 against a team, who is better? I think each teams results against their competition speak for themselves....

Technically I guess we don't know but what I'm wondering is why it's an given that has a few decent non-conference wins and is 6-4 in an average conference is automatically a top team? While a team like Plymouth State has one loss all year and doesn't even get a vote? I dont think its unreasonable of a question to ask if these perceptions come from name alone. Of course from seeing what PSUChamps2001 says apparantly asking that gets you called names but I understand people can get a little defensive of sacred cows.

Right now, using the top team in the conference standings as the projected winner and Matt's rankings, this is the way the tournament would look.

ECAC East - Norwich
ECAC NE - Johnson and Wales
SUNYAC - Oswego
NESCAC -Bowdoin
MCHA - Adrian
MIAC - Hamline
NCHA - St. Norbert
Pool B - Elmira
Pool C - Plattsburgh
Pool C - Manhattanville
Pool C - Superior

Now, since the tournament is out west this year and four teams are currently in from the west, I think you see all four west teams get byes into the quarterfinals to save on travel costs and the possibility of flying three teams west.

So, here's the way the first round looks.

#7E JW @ #2E Plattsburgh
#6E Bowdoin @ #3E Elmira
#5E Norwich @ #4E Manhattanville

Quarterfinals

Manhattanville/Norwich @ Oswego
Elmira/Bowdoin @ Plattsburgh/JWU
Adrian @ SNC
Superior @ Hamline

My bad. I made a mistake. That would be four and not three Pool C bids.

Okay, how about three ECAC West teams?

One getting a Pool B and two getting a Pool C bid?

I'm not really an advocate for any individual team. At least not more than any other. Maybe because you blindly support one team more than any other is why you see so many things in black and white.

Plattsburgh has not lost outside of the SUNYAC. The only blemish OOC is a tie with Elmira! Their only losses were in the first three weeks of the season to SUNYAC opponents. They have 2 wins over Norwich.

Look at Matt Rennell's rankings. He's using the formulas the NCAA uses and has the best educated guess (maybe Carey too) at how the NCAA rankings are going to look when they come out as of now.

Right now its Manhattanville, Elmira, Platty, and Oswego in.

Hobart is the first team out.

Yeah Ive looked at Plattsburghs schedule too, but thanks anyway. Why doesnt someone actually address the issue?
