New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

All things considered I think UNH slightly outplayed BU, earning penalties and creating a couple of exciting moments, but BU ultimately disrupted many UNH rushes, blocked a ton of shots, and capitalized on the opportunities they were given. Not much to complain about on the UNH side sitting at 11 wins at the break.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Yeah, Jack needs to zip it on the diving. It seems pretty clear that the refs are finding opportunities to tell him what they think of his claims.

I really don't think that comes into play when the puck is dropped...

BU now has a reputation of diving. The only solution is to not do it.

Props to the plastered drunk unh students who waited outside the exit of the rink to punch the first Bu sweater they saw in the head. Losing with class.

Multiple students punched one fanboy? Or just one idiotic student?

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Good job blocking shots and clogging up the shooting lanes by BU. UNH played well, but BU was the bettet team tonight.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

bu dives. i sit and yell at the tv. heck, i txt scarlet with she's at the games and i'm watching on tv that noonan or whomever just dove and she thought it was only a penalty on the other team.

however.....

there are embellishments all the time, every team. i think it's natural because hockey refs generally blow and kids (and even professionals) feel the need to make sure what they thought happened was seen.

given all of that, do you EVER SEE TWO CALLS IN A SINGLE GAME FOR DIVING? no, you do not. ever. even if it's one on one team and one on the other.

it just doesn't happen.

but it does now.

and it's not because bu dives. it's because bu's coach chose to run his mouth.

now anything close is being called along with all the obvious ones.

so bu needs to stop it and go beyond. they can't fall down at all now, because the refs have taken jack's mouth to heart and are going to call it when bu does it. every single time.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Hats off to BU tonight for a hard earned win. Their penalty kill was outstanding fortunately and their shot blocking was top notch. UNH has been getting bounces all year so it's hard to get too bummed about the fluky goal that bounced in front off the end board glass in the second period. Would have been nice to go into Christmas with just one loss, but it's been a great season so far. Please keep #1 BC, It doesn't work so well for us!

Gentry, other teams do but this has been a growing trend for BU the last three years IMO. they are comingacross as dumb/poorly coached. This wouldnt be nearly the story it is if jack could just shut up.
We had all the elements tonight... Diving, O'Connell knocking the net off the pegs conveniently in the 2nd period while short handed, jack trying to get the last change while on the road and working the refs when they don't let him, and lots of penalties... Didn't matter though, the better team won tonight, though I don't think UNH played poorly. Good hockey game..

Sorry that I missed this one tonight. Appears that UNH PP continues to struggle, with 0 for 9 tonight? So, 10 for 62 for a 16.13% PP on the season, for 31st in Div 1. Just shows that the Cats defense is covering up for a lot of their offensive weaknesses, I guess. Dartmouth game may match up the best two PKs in the nation.

They did get one PPG, 1 for 9 I think, but it was rough, though give credit to BU's PK. I did think they were going to tie it up on the power play the last two minutes and from the other end of the ice, it was tough to see if they got any good chances at it, but again credit the PK.

Looking at the boxscore I noticed all the penalties on BU. UNH with 9 power plays compared to 4 for BU.

Almost made up for BUnyon calling the first seven penalties on UNH a few weeks ago at agganis.... funny how the team with a ton of power plays, and at home, lost both of those games... also, who were those zebras tonight? Had never seen them before...

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Interesting game.

UNH sloppy with the puck and just not doing all the little things right now. Definitely sliding backwards a bit, hopefully with focused work over break they can tighten back up. 1st Goal DeSmith had it in front of his pads and just missed dropping the glove on it, and then it became a scrum at the net. 2nd Goal poor communication between a gassed Hardowa and TVR, so TVR played a 2 on 1 as a 2 on 2 attaching the guy with the puck. 3rd goal odd end bounce and BU gets a guy free out front to tap a puck past a completely screened DeSmith who never saw it.

Give credit to BU, uNH has made the offense down low this year. BU packed it in tight and UNH got very few opportunities down low. Add in BU giving up the body constantly to block shots.

Weird part is both teams missed yawning nets, BU once UNH 2 or 3 times that I can remember.

All in all a good game. BU did a better job of capitalizing on the other teams mistakes. UNH had plenty of opportunities and didn't convert.

I don't mind the early season loss as much as I do the play being loose since the trip to Colorado. Even the 5-2 win vs. UML was too loose. Just need to tighten back up the little things.

Lastly if all the fans know the BU opps the net is off trick, why don't the refs?

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

JB, cut them some slack. It must be difficult catching that when they need to also be on the lookout for the next louganis impersonation.

You forget to mention two referees who INSISTED on getting in the way, (of both teams) all night. Seriously, I cant remember a game where I thought teams should have been whistled for too many men when a couple of the men were wearing stripes. Ordinarily I would cut them some slack. Its a fast game to begin with, mix in two of the best teams in the nation and its even more difficult. But their ridiculous over the top mannerisms, like they are some type of latter day Ron Luciano, made their act unbearable. UNH-BU was the only league game last night, no excuse for having those two clowns officiate.
