New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston University, Thursday 12/6

You forget to mention two referees who INSISTED on getting in the way, (of both teams) all night. Seriously, I cant remember a game where I thought teams should have been whistled for too many men when a couple of the men were wearing stripes. Ordinarily I would cut them some slack. Its a fast game to begin with, mix in two of the best teams in the nation and its even more difficult. But their ridiculous over the top mannerisms, like they are some type of latter day Ron Luciano, made their act unbearable. UNH-BU was the only league game last night, no excuse for having those two clowns officiate.

I've never heard of either ref before, I believe they might've been trying out two new ones. They really were over the top emphatic and in the way of play a bunch of times. Generally not a poorly officiated game, however.

Hersey did the Quinnipiac vs PC game a few weeks ago and Fridays Merrimack and PC game in North Andover. He is absolutely atrocious with his calls as he is inconsistent and has zero feel for the game. I thought I was just being a homer but I see other people complaint now about him. Reminds me of the days of Hache doing games

Yep. Both teams were given the Hersey highway on that. :D

Surprised the number of empty seats in the side/corner ends opposite the student section. Pleasantly surprised about the lack of exit in the last couple of minutes by UNH fans. I've been to a lot of games at the Lake and have been amazed at the number of people making a run for it late in a tie/one goal game. Not this time.

Chatted with some very nice student fans sitting in the BU section. Knew the game and understood "light" smack talk. I was worried that we could see the second coming of the UNH "God's gift to hockey" fans that popped up all over at the turn of the century after being #1. (****, that phrase makes me feel almost profromdover old, but I take heart in the fact he has seen 2 :D) But they make me think that I might not mind them winning an NC sometime. :)

BU still had problems getting it out of the d zone against them but not as much as the last 2 games. A number of those were self inflicted. How about just getting it out and trying to set up in the neutral zone?

1st BU goal reminded me of the "slow roller" Maguire gave up game 1. Lots of fancy puck handling on both sides that occasionally forgot to bring the puck along with it. The one off the glass seem like a karma payback for the one against the SIOUX.

Don't know who it was, but a smart clear by BU with the empty net. 30ish seconds left and instead of trying to shoot it down the middle for the net, straight down in the empty area softly to get the change.

Good win by a young BU team against a fine UNH squad. Hockey East may be considered "weaker" top to bottom than in past years, but I think we have a couple of great contenders for a trip to Pittsburgh and another one or two that could be knocking on the door.

We'll see what PC might be bringing to the table tomorrow night.

Weird part is both teams missed yawning nets, BU once UNH 2 or 3 times that I can remember.

How inconsiderate of UNH to only blast the goal horn for 20 seconds after UNH missed an open net, not a peep from the A/V guys when BU did;)

It happened a couple times earlier in the season too, must be a new horn button associate.

bu dives. i sit and yell at the tv. heck, i txt scarlet with she's at the games and i'm watching on tv that noonan or whomever just dove and she thought it was only a penalty on the other team.

however.....

there are embellishments all the time, every team. i think it's natural because hockey refs generally blow and kids (and even professionals) feel the need to make sure what they thought happened was seen.

given all of that, do you EVER SEE TWO CALLS IN A SINGLE GAME FOR DIVING? no, you do not. ever. even if it's one on one team and one on the other.

it just doesn't happen.

but it does now.

and it's not because bu dives. it's because bu's coach chose to run his mouth.

now anything close is being called along with all the obvious ones.

so bu needs to stop it and go beyond. they can't fall down at all now, because the refs have taken jack's mouth to heart and are going to call it when bu does it. every single time.

Props to the plastered drunk unh students who waited outside the exit of the rink to punch the first Bu sweater they saw in the head. Losing with class.

They should do what I do; leave early and swear prolifically on the ride home.

Aside from the actual dives that are recorded in the box scores, one might need to consider something that started this epidemic over at BU. Remember in the first ND game when Osanen got hit in the shoulder and went flopping down to the ice to grab his head then got right back up and scored the PPG after the officials bought his act? I think getting away with this AND getting some results in the form of a PPG may have encouraged this behavior by the Terriers. Then the next night Hakstool pre-emptively talks to officials about it so the refs find Noonan also laughably flailing and put him in the bin. They come home thinking those refs are from out west so who cares, let's see if we can keep flopping but stupidly Jack runs his mouth looking like a hypocrite and buffoon and brings attention to his own team.

And here we are 5 diving penalties later. I'm sure Jack doesn't teach it. He didn't teach Trivino/Nicastro to rape anyone either. But all these things have happened.

Sorry to have missed this game, but its impossible to picture how this played out. UHN SMT's running around the ice complaining to the refs "he touched me, he touched me !" while at the same time several BU players flopping like a fish (hmmm) on the ice in pure embellished dive form. Just struggling with this picture.

That shot wasn't even close, either. No post, nothing. Was there even an open net? He missed by a solid 5-10 feet, and then suddenly it was the Fourth of July.

Get back to us when you win a home game

WIDE open net on that one and during a delayed penalty shortly after that Sorkin slid through the crease on a rebound.
