New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

I know the answer when Maine is the issue....I know Coach York and he's a great Coach and humble guy, so he doesn't breed the arrogance, yet I have to ask what makes BC a Jesuit school? Is it the tax write off ability or what, because you clearly are a sporting giant, (the ACC et al) and enjoy the limelight, but would a BC athlete do what the BYU athlete do when breaking the rules? Just asking...not sour grapes, just questions that were brought up in a discussion last night....

This must have been some discussion! if you are asking if BC students (or athletes) are allowed to have sex, the answer is yes. Also, UNH is a not-for-profit institution just like BC, genius. BC is only jesuit so they can entice little boys to enroll... i think.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

Last night's game was a great display of college hockey....goblue said it all pretty well, and I'm glad that sterlippo and the other BC fans had an enjoyable time at the Whitt...your fan base travels well....my question is to fivehole12....arrogant or honest, I know the answer when Maine is the issue....I know Coach York and he's a great Coach and humble guy, so he doesn't breed the arrogance, yet I have to ask what makes BC a Jesuit school? ?? Maine, arrogant or honest? Both, arrogant and dishonest. Yes, BC atheletes do BYU atheletes...wotever that is. Next question, hopefully one that makes sense. :D

This post deserves HOF honors.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

Why is BC a Jesuit institution? Because it was founded that way.

BC is nominally a Catholic institution. (It can be very Catholic if you want it to be, though.) When I was there 1997-2001, there was still a cohabitation rule: door open and one foot on the floor. But it wasn't enforced at all. BC has had its share of transgressions by athletes, and when it happens discipline is based more on NCAA and ethical rules than any sense of Catholicism. BC athletes don't get kicked out of school if they are drinking in their dorms or having premarital sex.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

If BC goes west, so what? Seems they won a couple of championships out west these last few years. That teams seems as prepared as anyone to play anywhere. For UNH, I doubt they drop to a four anyways. They will roll UVM, especially after what happened last year, and make the semis. I think they are a three at worst.

Oh I won't fret if BC has to go west, but it's always better if they can stay around here.

In the 2007-08 season, UNH went 3W-0L against Maine, BU and BC in the regular season. They got a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and were sent out to Colorado Springs to play Notre Dame. I'd just as soon forget what happened. It's highly unlikely that BC will have that kind of difficulty this season.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

Selfishly I want BC to stay east so I can go see them. I don't think the travel will affect them too much; this year they won twice at DU and the Dartmouth tourney (although they did lose at Notre Dame). In the past traveling for the NCAAs hasn't affected them either.

Yes but it was UNH in the postseason... they were going to lose anyway. Although some UNHers gave us some precious quotes that year (e.cat?) about how happy they were to go out west and how screwed BC was to draw Minnesota and then maybe Miami in the next round in Worcester. I wonder if I can find them...

edit - here's a few!

whadya think BC's chances are getting past Minnesota this weekend

lot a good that hea trophy did bc getting a draw like that wouldn't ya say?

e.cat said:
but you gotta get by minny first which will be no small feat. now having said that if you get a couple of redirecteds and a couple of baseball pucks batted into the net you can do it but i wouldn't count on it. you used up all your puck luck in the 3ot unh game remember

assuming for one minute that unh gets by nd and assuming cc gets by msu i'm not worried. if unh plays a full 60 they will punch their ticket to ff.

The great thing about getting sent to Colorado is that we can all say with 100% certainty that UNH will choke in the state of Colorado this postseason.

e.cat said:
i would much rather play nd than minny.they're better sandbaggers than you guys. speaking of trophies minny has way more than bc could ever dream of.

enjoy the game though. see ya wouldn't wanna be ya

e.cat said:
so you're satisfied with the hea title, eh that's funny jerry in the post game interview said bc was going to bring back the natioanl trophy

good luck against minny you'll need it

Oh boy... time to grow up. You're really going to waste part of your Sunday digging up threads from 3 years ago?

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

No one ever said that bar talk was ever rational...I agree with your diagnosis Carmine....just some random thoughts.....I didn't know if all colleges that are "religious" schools had honor codes or anything like it....the tax issue came about from a thread a year ago discussing why BC was the only school not paying Boston it's taxes...obviously because it claims religious exemptions, and when your school alumni gives back 26%, I find it interesting that you get financial advantages, but that's me.....the discussion was about how BC spends so much for it's athletic prowess, as does Notre Dame, when they are suppossedly religious based schools.....the BYU issue was whether either BC or Notre Dame would have risked it's NCAA money by losing it's best player going into the tourney.....like I said just bar talk.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

thanks Zudnic for a good answer that sheds info.. I have no honest idea how BC is run....the BYU offense was an honor code thing and I didn't know if BC had one, other then Jesuit reasons

Do you live close to power lines? I don't even know where to begin. All academic institutions are exempt from taxes. Has nothing to do with religious affiliation. BC does pay the city in lieu of taxes about as much as anyone else, regardless of what a writer for the Globe named Brian McGrory believed at one point in time (I think he learned the hard way).

My friend in Plaistow, NH who went to BU wants to know why his tax money is being used to pay for UNH athletics, too. ps- Eating paint chips is hazardous. Just sayin'.

the tax issue came about from a thread a year ago discussing why BC was the only school not paying Boston it's taxes...obviously because it claims religious exemptions

not obviously; the BC/Boston tax issue has nothing to do with religious exemptions. All not-for-profits (READ: ALL COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES) are exempt from paying taxes. some schools do give money (for property taxes) to the city of boston; where as BC gave less (Total dollars) because a) they had far less property within the city limits and b) they also give to the city of Newton. You are a testament to why slander and libel are so popular. Any idiot can spout off accusations and people will take it as gospel; nobody bothers to read the retraction.

So you obviously have a problem with how BC and ND spend private money, even though they are private institutions; yet you have no problem with UNH spending taxpayer dollars for its athletic prowess? is it only ok because UNH chokes when it counts?

Lastly, I'm not sure which of BC's best players you are not so subtly implying should be kicked off the team; but rest assured that if and when kids do violate the code of conduct policy they are removed from the team. See 2008 when two starting defensemen were removed at the beginning of the season - of course BC still went on to win the national championship that season. Must have been all that prowess they paid for.

Re: New Hampshire vs. Boston College - Mar 4/5 - Battle for Top Seed

I personally find it funny athletic departments waste money on Hobey campaigns for stiffs that aren't going to win the Hobey... take Paul Thompson for instance.

Geez I guess I'm honored to be quoted but I'm not sure what your point is. Obviously I would like UNH to play in Manchester.

BTW, congrats on the RS Trophy. It hasn't helped UNH much in the past recently anyway. Maybe the teams will meet up again at the Garden at least I hope so.
