New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

of course, LSSU and MTU's histories aren't plagued by the most disgusting NCAA violations in college hockey history, so I shouldn't put those fine once glorious programs down...

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

Have the Huskies played the Huskies ever?
NU, UConn, MTU, or SCSU?

In the time since I started following we still have yet to play NMU ("Wildcats"). :D

Don't forget Yale + Ferris State + Minn. Duluth (Bulldogs), Lake Superior + Mercyhurst (Lakers), Minnesota-State + Nebraska Omaha (Mavericks), and Princeton + Colorado College + RIT (Tigers).

Did I miss any?

I'm going way out on a limb: way, way out, where $400K Dickie leaves le chandail noir in the closet where it belongs, and I think UNH sweeps our friends from the Green Mountain state. Who says I'm a nattering nabob of negativism?

Wow, you are going way out on a limb....

I hope you're right bill. UVM is only 2 points ahead of Providence for the final playoff spot so they'll be motivated to beat UNH. Also, Madore is a solid goalie.

I think that would cover most people that still read your posts. But that's ok. Glad to see you pulling for a sweep and still have a keen eye for fashion!

Bentley and Bowling Green (Falcons). Don't know if these would count, but there's the Maine Black Bears and the Brown Bears. If that counts, then so does Boston College (Eagles) and Niagara (Purple Eagles).

Army Black Knights and Clarkson Golden Knights? :)

I guess the Cats & Cats could learn some things from Maine to help get those titles......(I found this acticle for some ideas)

Unfortunately, the legacy of Maine hockey and athletics in general is marred with several NCAA violations that would suggest they should be called the "Black marks", not the "Black Bears".

After Maine's historical season that saw them win 42 games and lose just once en route to the 1993 NCAA title, it didn't take long until the NCAA got wind of how U.Maine did its business. The very next season, it was found that Maine players Cal Ingraham and Jeff Tory played while academically ineligible and after an investigation, Maine had to forfeit 14 games and ended up getting credit for just 6 total wins. Like a child who refused to learn its lesson, Maine was caught cheating once again in 1994 when it was discovered that several hockey players were receiving free food in the school cafeteria, a violation of NCAA rules.

As the 1995-96 season got underway, less than a year after Walsh's Blackbears lost to Boink University in the 1995 NCAA final, Maine hockey was competely exposed for several rules violations. On December 12, 1995, it was announced that Maine's hockey program had violated 26 NCAA rules and was immediately banned from the 1996 Hockey East and NCAA Tournaments. Walsh was suspended for one entire year, while minions Grant Standbrook and Greg Cronin were banned from recruiting anywhere off-campus because of several recruiting violations. Without the luxury of recruiting 20-something mercenaries from Parts Unknown, Canada, Maine would take a hit on the ice as well.

Everyone blames Timmay, but in reality Timmay's had poor teams simply because he doesn't know how to cheat and has to play by the rules...

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

I guess PC needs UHN to sweep UVM. But that just makes me very confused. And it's not like I'm dying to go see PC get bludgeoned in two straight games in the HE QF's again...
I know you'd feel dirty about this, but root for UNH to take the Regular Season title, and PC to finish 8th. Given recent history, PC would have a good shot at the Garden.

Hey UVM Fans where is the best pre game place for food and beers.....

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

Not a UVM fan, but a Burlington enthusist. There are tons of choices, but I always like American Flatbread. They have some real nice house brewed beers and pizza.

The windjammer is usually a favorite among visitors and is conviently located close to the arena and the I-89. It is a little more upscale, huge salad bar, and a bit pricey. Vermont Pub and Brewery is downtown, has good pub food and excellent beer, cheaper and little more distant from the arena. Those would be my two recommendations depending on your likes.
