New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

I think UNH leads the conference in shots outside of the goal area. Makes me wonder if they use larger nets for practice.

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

I know you'd feel dirty about this, but root for UNH to take the Regular Season title, and PC to finish 8th. Given recent history, PC would have a good shot at the Garden.

If that happens, UNH wins game 1, 4-0... for the third consecutive time.

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

An odd second night after the 6-1 (2 ENGs) result on Friday - Vermont definitely looked better, but UNH didn't look great either. Wildcats were pretty lucky to escape with the tie if I'm being honest.

Got to hear the "F@#$ New Hampshire" cheer in the flesh tonight, twice even (once in each of the first two periods) - good to see that the lashing they got over the PA system from their AD last time, as well as the booing from their own fans, made an impression.

Funny that UNH is the one school that gets this treatment more than others, but they also seem to be the only one to be dumb enough to sit in the student section and basically ask for abuse. While I dont condone those chants at least when I go to UNH I keep my but in the visitors section. Drunk 19-21 years olds dont need help to become crazy so why provoke them.

It's happend without UNH fans sitting in Vermont's student section. Also in past seasons UVM students have come into the UNH student section to specifically harass our fans. Got kicked out both years. So it happens both places but we don't scream F- Vermont.

Re: New Hampshire at Vermont : 69ing since 1789

I certainly do not condone cheers like F-UNH, they are unoriginal, uncreative, and just stupid really. I also do not think they need to be the focus of the hockey thread after a 2-2 game that was a pretty exciting game to watch. A pretty high tempo game that saw both goalies really playing well.

Kudos to UNH and DiGi, he made some outstanding saves and was rock solid in net. Mackenzie's shot that he managed to get back across in time to save was huge for UNH.

I really liked the hustle out of UVM tonight, that were skating hard for the most part. And the Frosh line is without a doubt the best line out there for UVM in terms of energy and scoring chances. They need to start putting the puck in the net more though... I think White is the only one really looking to score with HT and Brickley more looking to wreak havoc. We need Brickely to start playing more skill type hockey. Outside of that definitely that line as well as Stalberg's line looked good.

Two negatives, Stalberg skates and passes too much. He needs to start firing some pucks and stop looking for McCarthy. Stalberg shoots but really it's only when he has no other options. Second neg, is the points on the PP, for christ sakes you can hold the puck sometimes. You don't have to pass as soon as it the puck hits your tape. There was one play last night and I forget who was who but pointman 1 was being hounded by a UNH guy and slid it over to PM2, who promptly returned it back to PM1 who still had a UNH guy all over him. It resulted in being knocked out of the zone. The PP is trying to pass too much, you don't always have to pass, skating a step or two can often up some lanes.

Outside of that great game of hockey to watch.

I agree , I don't condone the vulger chants. Like Cat Lover, I know enough when on the road to either respectfully cheer for UVM in the stands, or stay in the visitors section. For a group of UNH fans to do that stupid finger twirling thing facing a couple hundred drunk college kids is asking for it IMO.
Loved the energy from the guys last night. Lenz single handedly created the tieing goal. He kinda reminds me of Lenes but without the scoring ability. Always willing to sacrifice himself for the team.
Last night proves that playing with energy and sacrifice can make up for lack of skill. ( to an extent)
At this point, all I can ask for as a fan is effort. And last night they provided plenty of it!

YOU may keep your butt in the visitors section, but the group of students who got thrown out 2 years in a row by Durham's finest didn't (the second of which included throwing things at our band + director).

Stay classy, not UMassy.

I guess the common thread with all the bad behavoir is the fact they are college kids. This has been brought up many times before, but the majority of the fans at the Gut are working class people, not college kids. Could possibly be true at the Whit.
The crazy few should not be considerd the majority in either case. Lumping all UVM fans, or UNH fans as being disrepectful "rubes" is just plain ignorant.

It happened again last year when a uvm kid (presumably a student) harassed the band director and then assulted a unh fan just walking past him, all in the unh student section, he was arrested.

The unh fans that sat in the middle of the students last night were stupid too (though as far as I could tell never assaulted anyone), no reason to put yourself in that situatuion and you deserve to be yelled at and taunted.

Ps, last night was my first trip to the gutt in a while, and I enjoyed it, wish I could have seen fridays game in person, but cbscs is a good alternative... a question I have, last night during intermission, they introduced a good sized group of uvm hockey alums. Why would they not read a list of the names? I like the idea of calling them out to the rink but was curious as to who they were.... oh well... good luck the rest of the way, uvm deserved better than 1 pt last night

I asked the same question. They were former players. They should have brought them out before the game, and intrduced them.
I am sure it was a time concern. They needed to lay down a new sheet of ice , and that takes time.
