New England Prep 2009-2010

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

Lawrence lost their #1 goalie and several strong forwards. Still have above average firepower up front.

Their #1 goalie was replaced by this year's #1 goalie, Sperry who happens to be on the US under-18 team, the only goalie at National Camp to have ZERO goals scored against her. She is also committed to BU. Not a bad "loss."

With regard to them being "average" up front...they have 1 forward who is committed to BC, couple Juniors that are in the Assabet Red Major program, several more girls who play on the Spitfires top team, and I understand they added a blue-chipper from the Midwest who has been a 3-year National Camp attendee as well as a couple girls out of NY. I pick LA to be the surprise top team!

Their new assistant coach is a GREAT role model! You can't find a better all around person and she's a very hard worker!

I dunno, I've found her to be a bit uppity at times. ;) :p

Just kidding of course. She is a great addition to the program.

Yeah I've heard that too! I think she will be very good for the team.

But after having their solid goalie graduate and a great defender go to Lawrence Academy, do you think this team can surprise us?

Any returners improve? Any new players (which they have a lot of) that will be interesting to watch?

My daughter is new at Andover this year and thinks very highly of the Assistant Coach as well as the Head Coach. I have not seen them play yet, but every game so far this season has been a one goal game or a tie. With a couple of players hurt that are due back in the lineup after the Winter break is over, I'm hoping that they can convert the ties and one goal losses into wins.

Congrats! Thats an amazing school.

Thats good that the players are finding her as a good coach for their program. Yes it seems like they can really pull together once the injured return. They are playing against very tough teams (especially at the Taft Tournament) and losing to teams like Choate by one point. And Andover is playing with mainly two lines, made up by a lot of new players. It should be interesting to see how the coaches make up their new lines

***...make up their new lines once all of the returning injured come back. Do you think the coaches will stick with two lines still? or play with three (although they will have enough for almost 5 lines)

any results from the Exeter tournament? I'm assuming Brewster finished on top...?

The scores I saw had Brewster 3 to 1 over Milton for the Exeter tournament championship.

Of the 16 teams in the tournament, three finished 4-0 in the round robin: Brewster, Milton, and Williston Northampton. Then Brewster and Milton played for the championship. Must have been some odd tiebreaker as they had two divisions. Williston was the only undefeated team in their division, and Brewster and Milton in the other. Maybe the Polar Bears scheduler helped out with this one. Fitzy is the master of making sure the divisions and tiebreakers come out a certain way. Tough for Williston to go home 4 and 0 and not play one of the other two undefeated teams for the championship.

Now we know who runs the BCS computer....

Actually Williston wasn't the only undefeated team in their bracket and the round robin was only 3 games. Both Canterbury and Wyoming Seminary were undefeated in Willistons bracket. Canterbury and Wyoming advanced based on goals against. Canterbury had 1 goal against during the round robin. Wyoming Seminary had 3 and Williston had 8 against basically the same teams. I also believe Winchendon was undeated on the Brewster/Milton side. Willston was 4 and 0 because they played the third finisher in the other bracket.

Not quite accurate,

This was Williston's results:
Williston 4 vs Exeter 2
Proctor 2 vs Williston 5
Gilmour 2 vs Williston 3
For a total of 6 points against which is why the tie breaker put them as the 3rd seed when 3 teams went 3 & 0. They beat Gunnery 4-2 for the 3rd place finish. Canterbury had 2 goals against since they shut out the NJ club team & Wyoming had 3 goals against, they also shut out the NJ Selects & then lost 3-0 to Brewster

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

After watching the Cushing and Exeter Toury, I was actually quite impressed with Gunnery's team this year. Small group of kids but they're making a name for themselves this year.
