New England Prep 2009-2010

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

Nice work - that 2-7 upset call was particularly impressive!

Looks like I got three out of four! Not to bad, eh? I thought Williston might be able to make a mark, with all due respect to Westy, but just because they had some very impressive wins this season. Still holding to the rest of my "card". :D

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

Just got in from the Governors game. 6-1 Should have been 14 to 1 or more. The little goalie from NYA was awesome. She was very quick and post to post she was very fast. Carpenter and Leary were stellar! NYA proved to be quite a competitor. Lots of great passing infront of the net, with some strong blueline play by the Gov's. I believe they will win the division

Good game to watch. Can't wait for the rest of the games this weekend

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

I noticed that USHR has posted D1 and D2 allstar teams. Anybody know how these are chosen??
Actually, last year they only posted the player of the year for D1 and D2...I never saw an all star team posted at all. I'm pretty sure this gets decided at the same coaches meeting to review the final standings, held this past Sunday.

Congrats to those who were chosen!

Thank you! You see, while I only really know one Brewster player (very good player), I happen to know several of the Lawrence players, so I guess I was picking a bit with my heart. I also had seen Lawrence play in person against Nobles, and I thought they hung in there very nicely despite losing 1-0, so I figured they had a decent chance.

ISL is a seperate all-star team. No ISL player will be on the list you see DI or DII

Governers down 1-0 after one comes back to beat Brooks 10-1
Rivers down 5-0 after one come back in second 5-3 and that it, Southfield over Rivers 5-3

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

What would people feel about going to the playoff system the boys use? Think about Gov's current junior class next year getting a chance to go off as an "Elite 8" Champion instead of a DII champion. Not saying they would but I would find it hard to believe they wouldn't make that tournament under the system the guys use.

The hard part (as it was in guys) would be getting certain schools to swallow their placement in small and large school pools for those that don't make the elite 8. Consider how many schools that are playing in DII who are class b due to size in sports like basketball. Just using the logic that class A & B size wise would likely be large schools and class C and D would be considered small schools. Basketball might be the best measure in terms of size and classification because they are much more strict in NEPSAC basketball about moving around unless your female enrollment moves.

I know their system is not perfect but might it be better than what the girls are using now. I just think about the notion of giving those Govs girls a chance next year at a bigger prize without the school having to commit ot being DI for three years if they wanted to move up as is current NEPSAC policy.

Same was said about Rivers going DI about 3 years ago.. So if they did where would they be now? Applying for DII status I think. I am not really that familiar with the boys system this year being the first.. But with the potential up and down cycles in Prep hockey this might be something to think about.

Exactly it would avoid the ups and downs worries that some programs have. Teams would not have to dramatically alter their schedules, however, you would have to play a strong schedule to get into the elite 8. For example, Dexter had a two loss season I think for the boys but it really was not a strong schedule so they did not make the elite 8 and instead are playing in the small school final today against KUA. Whereas Govs and Rivers play a strong enough schedule where Govs this year and Rivers a couple of years ago would have made an elite 8 for the girls, I would guess.

Also, it would expand to 24 post-season spots. Girls hockey of the core team sports has the fewest post-season spots available in the fall and winter of any sport not counting football which has an odd bowl system.

Boys and Girls Soccer - 32
Field hockey 24
Girls bball 40
Boys bball 40 - and maybe 48 next year.
Boys hockey 24
Girls hockey 16

I think to be on par with the boys would be good because there are close to the same amount of teams now playing girls hockey.

Westminster beats Lawrence 3-1. Excellent effort by both teams.

Paige Decker is MVP
