New England Prep 2009-2010

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

You're forgetting a pretty good goalie too.

you said it pretty good goalie but not the best I have seen in DII, but they have the best line in Prep hockey. IF you can possess the puck like they do, you don't need to play defense. Yes I know they have good defense as well. But, the defining characteristic of Governor's is their first line.

Goalies in the DII tourney, I would give the nod to Rivers of the top 4 teams

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

Two of the best coaches in DI and DII girls hockey; Govs Babe Ceglarski and Rivers Kristin Harder. Both teach skills, discipline and confidence. Playing for them or against them, players learn from them.

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

These are my unofficial results as of Sunday based on actual games played. Obviously with games scheduled for tomorrow/Friday/Saturday, things could change.

Good luck to all!

Well, unfortunately for Tabor the snow cancelled game against a Certain team from North of Boston played into the equation. And they wouldnt reschedule...anybody for a forfeit rule? Note to players: Take charge of your own destiny during the season! Good luck to Pomfret...

Dont know Ceglarski but Harder is indeed a class act!

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

I watched a bit of D II hockey this year and there were quite a few good teams that played some D 1 schools tight. I was surprised at the levl of play. Very surprised with the play of Brewster at the Exeter tournament. I got to watch Governors play and was very impressed with their play. I also thought there was a high level of play from the several D II goalies. Most of which I thought could very easily play at the higher levels of D 1

Thanks for the earlier help decoding the ranking process for playoffs. I'm interested in your thoughts on the D1 matchups and the picks that you've made.

Pomfret had the same problem with a certain school that did reschedule but then decided not to come. Yes there should be a forfeit rule in place for games that have an impact on the playoff spots. Just saying.

Check your facts on the reschedule statement regarding that team north of Boston. That same team knocked off the number 3 seed and the game against the number 8 seed would have been competitive. :D

Actually, my spreadsheet did indicate that so long as the game got played, Tabor would be in. Both Berkshire and Pomfret ran the risk of dropping out with a loss, because the winning percentages were so tight. I ran the scenario with Pomfret win, a Berkshire win, and a tie. In all three scenarios, Tabor advances. The facts are correct.

New England weather is the intangible (that is whether it's real or imagined, since this cancellation came during the snow storm that wasn't!)

As to my selections? I greatly apologize, no real science! Just my hunch based on the players that I still know on certain teams, and how the teams may have fared during the season. Sorry to disappoint! I didn't realize I had to have a rationale to post! I filled out my "card", no one else seems to want to?

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

No worries - just probing to see if there were some insights that might stimulate some conversation. If I'd seen more than a handful of games (and therefore had something beyond hot air to offer), I'd happily dive into the fray.

Any others out there who've seen these schools play care to weigh in? All contributions are appreciated!

Think the real point is that had Tabor beaten Pomfret there'd be no discussion. Like the previous poster said - take charge of your own destiny. Some things you can control and some you can't (like the weather).

Let he/she who has never scoreboard watched to back their way into the playoffs cast the first stone! :D

Re: New England Prep 2009-2010

Interesting game no one's mentioned thus far- the annual showdown between Exeter and Andover, one of the biggest game in prep hockey no doubt. I saw on Andover's site they fell 2-1 despite Exeter's hard season, anyone know more on the game?

I don't know prep hockey but why is it a big game ? two teams with 4 or 5 wins a piece- I think safe to say both teams had hard seasons. Is there a school rivalry based on what in their history?

Its an institutional rivalry. Two of the oldest schools in North America, with the added bit of each sharing a common name.

Having attended Exeter for 4 years and played varsity sports for all 4, I can certainly attest to this!

Any Exeter - Andover contest is huge, and there are always big pep rallies, campus is decorated, e-mails go out to the alumni to gather the troops, and the occasional trip to the "other" school's campus is made to run around campus wearing your school's colors (Red (really maroon) for Exeter, blue for Andover) and whooping it up. Generally, they are the last games on each other's regular season, and despite the record leading into that contest, the season is made or broken (at least on campus) by that game.

We compete the same way in college placement, debate club, math club... you get the idea:o

Looks like I got three out of four! Not to bad, eh? I thought Williston might be able to make a mark, with all due respect to Westy, but just because they had some very impressive wins this season. Still holding to the rest of my "card". :D
