NESCAC '13-'14 season

Re: NESCAC '13-'14 season

Can't wait for NESCAC to kick off. I understand that Middlebury has a strong freshman class, and they seem to be carrying a large roster. 26 players compared to the 23 or 24 they usually carry. Nice problem.

There are 4 rostered goalies. One thing with the 8 1st years on the Panther roster is they average close to 5'7".

IMO, size in women's hockey means next to nothing. Hint: there's no hitting. Small and fast is usually better than big and slow.

As for Midd recruits, not sure what all the confetti if for. I see a solid class, decent group, but no all-stars.

Re: NESCAC '13-'14 season

Amherst has a "Preliminary Roster" up on its website. Tori Salmon (second leading scorer last season), Emily Flom (fourth leading scorer), Madeline Tank (ninth leading scorer), Barrett McBride, Anne Gillard, Avery Stone, and Kasia Henley (goalie) who are all supposed to be upperclassmen are not on the roster. Ashley Salerno also left to go to UVM making it 8 non-returners who are eligible from a class level (not seniors last year). Leaves them with only 1 Goalie (I think) and 13 skaters (of which 7 are freshmen). Anyone have any insight on what the heck is going on at Amherst - seems like WAY too much drama since Jim Plumer left....

Rosters for Conn College and Wesleyan:
http://collegehockeystats.net/1314/rosters/wesw
http://collegehockeystats.net/1314/rosters/ctcw

So, just to feel silly on Sunday, I think Midd sweeps Colby in Waterville, Williams sweeps Wesleyan in Williamstown, Amherst and Hamilton each win at home and Trinity and Conn College split in New London.

not so silly. agree with nearly all the picks. only diff would be Hamilton 0-2; Conn 2-0 after the weekend.

Re: NESCAC '13-'14 season

Bowdoin will be undefeated come Sunday...no doubt about that.

We can only hope the thought applies to the field variety of hockey, as the Polar Bears host a NCAA 2nd round game against New Platz on Ryan Field (in the shadow of Watson) Saturday. I am sure Coach O'Neil will be in attendance. GO U BEARS!!!

Same goes for the Middlebury Field Hockey team that hosts Utica on Saturday. Only difference is that Coach Mandigo will be up in Maine for that game, but I am sure he will be there on Sunday should Middlebury win against Utica.

Just read the post on the main-page predicting Bowdoin women's continued NESCAC dominance in '13-'14. Can't really say I share that view.

Losing 40% of your goal scoring and both goalies, is.... to put it mildly....very difficult. The Captain's sounded a bit robotic in their assessment of the team and season. Let's see what happens when they drop the puck.

Re: NESCAC '13-'14 season

Looking at the Polar Bears schedule, they have quite a while to come together and defend their title. Excepting the blood feud home and home games with Colby 11/22-11/23, they play non-conference games (at Norwich 12/7 to close the first quarter before break and three to open the New Year with Manhattanville 1/4, St. Thomas 1/5 and St. Anselm 1/7 in the friendly confines of Watson) before getting down to the heavy lifting on the road at Conn College 1/10-1/11, and their additional 14 NESCAC contests. They also benefit from the unbalanced NESCAC schedule in that they then have four series in Brunswick, while visiting Middlebury and Hamilton.
Time to drop the puck and let the Goal Gods sort it all out!!!
Good Luck to all the players, coaches and parents for another great season!

Re: NESCAC '13-'14 season

Ok - I'm in for the season on league predictions:

- Middlebury takes 2 over Colby
- Connecticut and Trinity split
- Amherst takes 2 over Hamilton
- Williams takes 2 over Wesleyan
