Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Good game. Looked like the best team won. Should be no surprise to anyone that the Gophers lost. They seemed to have a very difficult time getting the puck down ice. Good to see Archibald and Zombo dominate.

Will be nice to see UNO get the sweep they deserve.

Gophers are struggling just to maintain a winning % above .500 in the WCHA. Yet they are #3 in the nation????

OVERRATED!!!! :D

If anyone takes that bait, they should be dragged into the street and shot.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

MN played really well tonight...........in the first period.
The final 40 minutes were arguably the worst 40 minute stretch MN has played this year. I don't throw the "worst this year" qualifier around too often, but it applies tonight.

Passing was atrocious. Offensive zone pressure was atrocious. Misreads in teammates through all 3 zones were atrocious. PP was atrocious.

This isn't to take anything away from UNO. All 3 of their goals were well executed and timely. They did a good job adjusting I think after the first period. How much of that was due to the coaching staff and how much was due to players seeing what the Gophers were doing and adjusting on their own, I can't say. Either way, that adjustment explains the 2nd period. It most definitely doesn't explain the 3rd.

After the first period, I was all ready to come on here and eat crow for saying Isackson needed to be moved off the 1st line and Budish back onto it. But after the final 2 periods, I'm even more convinced that this change needs to happen...immediately. There was almost no offensive zone presence through the final 40 tonight. And that's where I think Budish is needed on the first line. Rau isn't a 1v1, open ice guy, and he has limited mileage in the corners due to his size. So Bjugstad has to try to carry the play both into the zone and then keep it there on his own...and try to score goals. Too much.

I also have to say Schmidt was awful tonight. He was pretty much solely culpable on the 1st goal, and I literally lost count of the number of times he put passes into UNO sticks and bodies through the neutral zone.

Lastly, I love Parenteau. I want him to be in the line-up on D every night. But he shouldn't play forward again. I get that they put him there tonight over Holl due to his size and physicality, but he looked so lost and out of synch all night. It's a total waste of one of our most consistent players.

Isackson was responsible for the first goal. It was his guy to pick up. Agree on everything else you said. The giveaway by Budish that led to the game winner is an excellent example of the lazy, unfocused play that has plagued this team periodically. It's getting REALLY old.

Good game by Omaha. They made the necessary adjustments and executed. Definitely deserved the win.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Next weekend might end up being a lonnnnnng weekend for yours truly, if MN plays like they played tonight. Kudos to UNO, though. Bad teams don't capitalize on other teams' mistakes. Good teams do. UNO did.

Schmidt passed him off to Isackson. But Isackson was 3 strides behind him entering the zone. It would have been nice to see Isackson put as much effort into his feet as he was into his stick at that point, but Schmidt shouldn't have passed him off. It was Schmidt's mistake.

The play developed after the Gophers were pressing low to make a play in the UNO end. They turned it over and UNO transitioned. That happens. Making a bad decision to tell a trailing backchecker to pick up the most dangerous passing option while you go stand all by your lonesome doesn't have to happen.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Yup - Schmidt muffed on that goal and aside from a few one-timers (at least two of which never reached the net) didn't have a great game. I guess one silver lining is they only lost by 1. :o

Poor play by both, but I see your point.

I could not agree with you more! UNO played a good game last night, but the gophers in the 2nd and 3rd periods were terrible. Parenteau has to play defense every night, he is a stay at home D and is **** good at what he does.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Makes sense. You would hate to mess with the gophs sweet-*** chemistry that has got all those top-notch talent blue-chippers devastating, well maybe not devastating, but... dominating.....er.... splitting with a bunch of non TUC teams. That would have sucked. Dodged a bullet.

Pretty good chemistry last night between Walters and Megna on the tying goal and then Walters and Archibald on the game winner. I wish the Gophers had some more of that same chemistry going.

What was unfortunate is Isackson has consistently been one of MN's best backcheckers this season. First time this season I've seen him not stay with his man until the play is over.

I'd go

Rau-Bjugstad-Budish
Warning-Haula-Ambroz
Condon-Boyd-Isackson
Serratore-Michaelson-Larson

Schmidt-Parenteau
Alt-Marshall
Helgeson-Holl\Reilly\Skjei

I'm usually the one who goes off on Twitter after loses like this, but it was really telling that Hammy got worked up. If we get a repeat of that effort tonight, I'm probably going to lose a lot of followers.

Sorry, posted this in season thread, but think it's probably more appropriate here.

“@Russostrib: #Gophers D Mark Alt may be being sent a message tonight. He's scratched. No word if injury, but he's one of the vets Lucia wants more from”

“@Russostrib: Jake Parenteau back where he belongs on D. Christian Isackson down to 4th line, Nate Condon to first #Gophers”

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

I like Condon up on that first line.

Isackson went from the "penthouse" to the "doghouse"

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Can't argue too much. I think Alt has taken shifts off in every game this year, so I'm onboard with that decision.
I Also think he now has the right guys on those top 2 lines. Although I would still swap Budish and Condon, I'm excited to see what Condon might bring to the top line.

Here's hoping for more offense and 2 points tonight.

There are a number of vets who should be showing more. We should be seeing increase in production as players get older. Hasn't been happening with too many of them. Effort. Effort. Effort.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Well, that didn't end up feeling like a win.

Omaha is good. Best of luck the rest of the way. Well, until we play you again, that is.
