Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

I'm a math teacher and a hockey fan. Draw whatever conclusions you want from these stats:

UNO away: 3.5 goals for, 2.0 goals against. (Only played 2 away games)
MN @ home: 3.75 goals for, 1.125 against.

On Fridays:
MN has 3.43 goals for with 1.86 against, UNO has 3.5 goals for and 1.83 against.

On Saturdays:
MN has 3.63 goals for with 1.5 against, UNO has 4 goals with 2.33 against.

MN only has 1.1 less penalty minutes on average than UNO. Minnesota has the conference fewest, UNO is 2nd fewest.

Minnesota holds a 1% better PP while Minnesota and UNO are 3rd and 4th respectively in this category.

Minnesota and UNO are first and second in the conference on the penalty kill with MN holding a 4.3% advantage.

Here's my call:
Fri: 4-2 Gophers win coming from behind in the second.
Saturday: 2-1 Gophers edge UNO in a game-winning goal in the third.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

I can't remember any other time where the Gophers wanted a recruit to play more than two years of juniors. And I can't blame him for wanting to get his college career going. He may have had "character issues" but you can bet that Dean Blais is glad to have him.

I'm sure Dean is thrilled to have him. That misses the point entirely.

That's something that I don't think can be underestimated right now. The past couple years, the Gophers have started acting much more as a team than at times in the (not too distant) past. If he had potential to disrupt the "team" chemistry, I think it may be better off this way.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

I just cannot decide whether this game is going to be high scoring or low. Very good goalies with teams that know how to score. Is there anyone predicting a UNO sweep?

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Looks like Warning will be in the lineup, back with Haula. I'm surprised they didn't put Budish back up on the 1st line with Bjugs and Rau and move Isaackson down to the 2nd line.

They also have Parenteau playing as a 4th line wing (which I hate) wish he was back on D.

Hope Warning is fully healthy.

Makes sense. You would hate to mess with the gophs sweet-*** chemistry that has got all those top-notch talent blue-chippers devastating, well maybe not devastating, but... dominating.....er.... splitting with a bunch of non TUC teams. That would have sucked. Dodged a bullet.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Fox Sports North says its playing the Timberwolves game tonight at 7 (TV GUIDE). What gives? I thought it was supposed to be Omaha vs. Minnesota

Outside of the state of Minnesota, are you sure? I went to their website and if I put in a zipcode and look at the Fox Sports North listings, Omaha vs. Minnesota is not on there. If I put a Minnesota zip code in, it says it's hockey. I'm going to be sad if I show up at the bar, they turn on Fox Sports North and it's Timberwolves. No one wants to watch that crap.

“@fsnorth: Clarification on 2nites lineup: @gopherhockey on @fsnorth, @MNTimberwolves on My29 in Twin Cities & on @fsnorth PLUS outside of Twin Cities.”

Hey pants, I don't know where you are but I see it listed as FSN+ which in my neck of the woods ( western suburb of Minneapolis ) is comcast channel 694. If I look on my guide on the TV, it says " to be announced ", but come 7pm, it should be on. Hope that helps!---oops I see you are from outstate. In that case , I have not a clue. Good luck.

It DOES help, thank you very much guys! I was on TV Guide's website, and then I look on FSN website, but it was listed weird.

Thanks for the help! here's to good hockey!

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Comcast has it listed wrong, but FSN is working with them to correct it. The game will be on FSN Regular.

“@fsnorth: @GopherPuckLive That is correct. It seems as though the guide issue(s) is specific to Comcast. We've contacted them about it.”

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

If this game finishes 3-2 UNO (5 min left in the 3rd) they fully deserve the win. Outplayed the Gophers 70-30 maybe more. Sad effort by the Gophers. Failure to use short, crisp passes. Failure by skaters away from the puck to move to get open. Failure to drive to the net. Insisting on looking for the perfect pass to a player staring at an open net rather than mucking it up. A running theme for this team in the games where they've struggled.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Hey you know the things we were having success doing? Let's play the last two periods not doing any of those. Brilliant.

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

Part of all that is the opponent we were playing, they pounced and buried the lapses we had and we didn't bury the few we had.

Hats off to UNO

Re: Nebraska-Omaha vs. Minnesota. 11/30, 12/01.

I don't want to read too much into this game since I thought we'd win one of them, anyway. And, I still don't have a good read on Minnesota, yet, and I thought I would after seeing them play us.

Minnesota, to me, looked eerily like they did on the Friday of their series at Michigan Tech earlier in the year where they got beat as well.

The game was reminiscent of our game with Notre Dame at the Icebreaker (albeit with different results, obviously). If you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say I thought Notre Dame was maybe a little better than Minnesota, but only because Notre Dame put more offensive pressure on us than we saw tonight.

This was the best defensive effort of the year by our guys. Inspiring, even. I've said elsewhere we are at least top 4 in the conference on defense. We may even be better than that.

I thought we pretty much controlled the game after the first couple minutes of the 2nd period. I don't like how we packed it in after we scored our 3rd goal, but, hey you can't argue with the results.

Tomorrow is must win for the Gophers. We're gonna learn a whole lot more about BOTH of these teams tomorrow night.
