NCAA Tourney Team Selection Options

I think you have to go down that road a bit. Maybe not having committee members break down film on two specific teams and report back with detailed findings but there has to be some sort of evaluation. And some people will cry about it but historical data should be considered. Not the only factor of course but should come into play. This all comes down to me saying we know who the bubble teams are and I can't pinpoint the last 2-3 spots. The committee should have a good handle on this right now. There are a handful of teams where if left out of the tournament they really won't have a huge argument. What we have no idea on is how dedicated the committee is to limiting travel and if that influences their decision making on who makes the field. If I was on the committee I would be placing great value on these conference tournament games and viewing it as basically an extension of the NCAA tournament.

I am definitely NOT saying what I think the committee will do. This is purely how I look at what the field should be. I do think that in a 16 team field with fewer competing teams that the NCHC is getting at least 4 in. And yes, QU is probably a lock. Hell, they might even say AIC is too. The funny thing is a league like the WCHA is going to look back on this season and wish this is how they always pick teams. Maybe the WCHA should never play non league games again!

That makes a lot more sense. I was approaching it from a how I think the committee would select teams. If the rest of the tournaments go chalk with the exception of Atlantic Hockey, it will be very interesting to see if AIC gets an at-large bid.

The field is gonna be a mess this year I think. You figure NCHC and Hockey East will definitely want past years considered to get more teams. Atlantic Hockey and WCHA won’t. No clue what ECAC will argue for with three teams left and a rep who coaches a team who didn’t even play this season. Also not sure what the B1G would want as they’ve had less than 3 bids/year on average since they became a hockey conference. I’m not even gonna try to figure it out. Win the conference tournament or else risk getting left out I think.

Where I think things currently stand with the committee...

Locks: (11 teams)
Boston College
Boston University
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Minnesota Duluth
Minnesota State Mankato
North Dakota
Quinnipiac
St. Cloud State
Wisconsin

Bubble: (7 teams: up to 5 can get in)
American International
Army
Bemidji State
Denver
Lake Superior State
Nebraska Omaha
Providence

Need to win Conference Tournament: (7 teams)
Canisius
Colgate
Massachusetts Lowell
Niagara
Northern Michigan
Robert Morris
St. Lawrence

Robert Morris is out then since they lost to Niagara in the AHA QF?

What Denver is doing with NoDak is rather amazing. Win this one, and it becomes really hard not to put them closer to the front of the line for bubbles.

Denver is doing to North Dakota tonight, what North Dakota did to Denver in the 2017 NCHC Semifinals.

Here's to hoping North Dakota can have the same end to the season as Denver in 2017. :)

You don't have to apologize for being a Gopher fan. ; )

What I would love to see would be for NoDak and Minn/Wisc to get #1s, and for the other of UW and UMn be placed in a 3rd regional, and Den in the 4th, and end up with an all former WCHA (when it was the greatest college hockey league ever) Frozen 4

What's crazy is you could realistically have 11 former WCHA members make the NCAA Tournament:
North Dakota
Denver
Minnesota Duluth
St. Cloud State
Nebraska Omaha
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Michigan
Minnesota State
Northern Michigan
Bemidji State
