NCAA Rankings?

Are you sure you don't want to squeeze a few more teams in front of Plattsburgh? Why not Suffolk or Assumption? Cards are ranked #9 in USCHO National poll.....you've got them #11 in the Eastern rankings?????

Looks like i was being generous;)

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Plattsburgh being ranked #14 East is just plain stupid ! Perhaps someone can explain to me how Trinity, Neumann, Castleton, Manhattanville, Babson AND Williams rank over the Cards....I never expected that....Fuel for the Fire....Fule for the Fire !!!
...there goes Fishman hacking the Admiral's account again...

Re: NCAA Rankings?

What a joke....I am actually fuming over this. As a player, you can use this to your advantage. I don't believe Mike McShane or Ed Gosek would agree with this ranking.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Don't jump all over me but "Utica finally getting respect" from the only place it counts.

And I honestly believe they deserve it. The numbers are in their favor. Let's see how it affects them. (Does it motivate them more, does it leave room or complacency?) And let's see how they handle themselves for the rest of the season. But yes, congratulations to Utica. THIS poll is the only one that really matters, and they've certainly earned that 1E ranking to this point.

For their team's sake and their fans sake, let's hope the UC President and Trustees are passing the hat to see how much it will take for the HS kids to make room at The Aud...at least make the ask - you never know!

Yet they are both on the committee. McShane is one of the chairs, no less. Do you by chance have any relevant insight on the matter you'd care to share?

What McShane and Gosek think doesn't really matter. And i bet that Emery cared very little about these rankings because he is smart enough to know that it is SUNYAC or bust for the Cards...

...as if the Cards needed any more motivation for this coming weekend....

Re: NCAA Rankings?

I honestly had the Cards pegged for #6 or #7, close with Amherst and UMB. But I can't find the data to support some of those other teams at all. What a great motivational tool for Emery.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Plattsburgh ranked 14th or not, I can't complain about the rankings. When the Cards lose 1/2 of their games to the good teams they faced this year, they shouldn't be in the top ten. Never mind losing to Fredonia two weeks ago.

As for Norwich V. Utica - this isn't college football. Everyone who follows the game even a little bit knows that strength of schedule matters, that's why every powerhouse team tries to make their schedule a challenging one, and not the Sun Belt or WAC teams of college hockey. They know that winning the majority of them is the entrance fee into the NCAA's.

Once you get beyond the top 7 or 8 spots it really doesn't matter. If you aren't in the top echelon of the regional rankings, you have only Pool A as an option

Re: NCAA Rankings?

So, I was about to use the data available on the sheet linked at the bottom of the ncaa.com page to show the relevant stats for the ranked teams... until I realized that it was from 2011 (Babson being #6 and having **** for stats on that sheet was the red flag for me lol)

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Does Oswego have to lose both games this weekend then for Platty to get in ?

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Not one ECAC-NE. Guess that means if Plymouth wins the MASCAC, they're hosting on a 7/4 split.

Let's see. If the season ended today and the 1st place teams win out
ECAC-E: Norwich
ECAC-NE: Wentworth
MASCAC: Plymouth
NESCAC: Bowdoin
SUNYAC: Oswego
MIAC: St. Olaf
MCHA: Adrian
NCHA: Eau Claire

Pool C: Utica, St. Norbert, Hobart

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Yeah, I know the cutoff. I thought we might be a little past it. I just researched the criteria and Trinity, Babson and Williams should not be ahead of Plattsburgh. To say nothing of Manhattanville, Neumann and UMB. Cards are in middle of pack in all criteria, which shouldn't translate to that ranking.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

What if Oswego ties Potsdam and loses to Platty ? Season series would be 1-1....what would the tiebreaker be ? Does the SUNYAC reg season winner or prob the Conf playoff winner gets in ?

Think I answered my own Q.

Remember its numbers....

Babson wins criteria 3-1
Castleton 3-2
UMB 3-1
Manh 2-2 (sos 13 vs 23) but mvull rnk 1-7-2??
NEUM 2-2 sos 3 vs 23
Amh 2-2 sos 15 vs 23 and head to head
Trin 2-2 rnk 5-2-1 COP 4-1-1 vs 2-2-0

A lot of teams are close in common opponents and ranked with several playing 1 or 2 games this weekend vs ranked teams

But as I just told someone....numbers do not always reflect how good a team is. I don't agree 100% how they figure SOS which is something the NCAA has always weighted heavy, but as we always told Adrian it is what it is. Two HUGE games Plattsburgh lost were Fredonia (Comm Opp) and Castleton several Comm Opponents as well. Had Plattsburgh lost the Williams game im not so sure they would even be ranked. The SUNYAC having such a horrid OOC record just kills Plattsburgh. Combine that with a nine loss Midd team.....Id have to go back but im trying to remember a Plattsburgh SOS so low. IDK just seems low to me. Just as it pretty much was after the Castleton loss .....March 2nd....get there, win there, and its anyones game after that.

Food for thought.... if Plattsburgh wins the SUNYAC

WEDS MARCH 6TH
MASCAC/NE winner @ PLATTSBURGH

SAT MARCH 9TH
Winner HOSTS Utica
