NCAA Rankings?

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Actually they didn't round that way. They multiplied 6.5*11 to get the required number of teams as 71.5, and they actually truncated and said 71 is good enough for a field of 11. With the addition of Naz we are now at 72, and when Canton becomes eligible, we will have 73.
Last year, the women's field went from 7 to 8, the did the calculation differently.

They took the number of D3 teams, which was 49, divided by 6.5 and got 7.54 and said that's good enough for a field of 8. I don't know what they would have done if Stevenson and UNE hadn't come in when RIT left, because 48/6.5 is 7.38.

In the past they have multiplied 6.5 by the number of teams in the field to get the minimum number of teams required for that field size. They have given the break for the extra half team. With that calculation we would need 78 teams to get to 12. With a round off we would need 75, because 74/6.5 = 11.38 snf 75/6.5 is 7.54.

Thanks NUProf for the great indepth explaination. I actually thought we were close to get a 12th team with Naz and Canton, I was wrong. Lets hope 3 colleges decide to feild a team. As a Laker fan I really don't want to see RIT back, or Union. Union's barn is really that nice considering they did some major upgrades to it 4-5 years ago. Still looks like it did 20 years ago.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

D-I runs with an access ratio of, I believe 1/4. That does not yield 16 teams, but a deal was struck that the expansion of the men's ice hockey bracket was tied to the the expansion of the women's softball (?) bracket.

The D1 men's hockey tournament now makes a profit, so the NCAA doesn't care how many are in it...

Re: NCAA Rankings?

I think I've answered this question a few times now but you can expect to see the first NCAA rankings on Tuesday, feb. 12. Sometime in the afternoon likely.

Thank you, I was too lazy to look it up or go through the entire thread for it. You're a Gentlemen and a scholar. ;)

Re: NCAA Rankings?

I can't remember what the exact ratio is but is it close to add the 12th team with the addition of Nazerath and Canton? Or don't Naz and Canton count yet for they are on their probation period?

Nazareth does not have a probation period. They are already a D3 institution. The addition of a particular team doesn't matter. Remember Adrian with all the controversy of not making the NCAA in their first year? That had nothing to do with being on probation, because they weren't.

Just look at Elmira's women's team. They won the national championship in the very first year they existed.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

:D He'd still b*tch even if they do get ranked #1.
Unless they screw the pooch this weekend, they will be. Any idiot can pick the top 5 east. Most will be able to pick the exact order, too. The next 5 is probably just as easy, but then you get fun with the next 5 or 6.
