NCAA Rankings?

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Unless they screw the pooch this weekend, they will be. Any idiot can pick the top 5 east. Most will be able to pick the exact order, too. The next 5 is probably just as easy, but then you get fun with the next 5 or 6.

Utica
Norwich
Oswego
Hobart
Bowdoin

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Just a guess on which West teams will be ranked:

UWEC
SNC
Adrian
MSOE
UWSP
St. Johns
Gustavus??

You slot them according. I'm not.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

Will the delay in games being played have anny effect on when rankings come out
ie. several ECAC EAST and NESCAC games being played Sunday and Monday because of NEMO

Re: NCAA Rankings?

What, no talk about the big poll out tomorrow???? Thought there would be tons of chatter on here tonight. Come on!!!!:)

just gotta wait and see, has anyone figured SOS with the same way the ncaa has? Not sure on KRACH, I know profs SOS will differ.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

According to the Aud website, there are 4 games scheduled for the Saturday in question assuming UC either gets a bye or wins the play-in game the Wednesday before - this was covered on the UC thread, but I don't think there is enough time for NCAA mandated ice time for practice for both teams..and the start time for Saturday night would be later than the NCAA specifies....

Yup.

Talked the head-honcho of The Aud the other day, and if the NCAA specifies a 7 PM start on Saturday, there is no way in the world that UC will host it there.

That's disappointing, but it's fair. Utica's brass (presumably) knew the rules beforehand, and The Aud has an important commitment to honor as well. It's just a pitfall of the former being a lessee of the venue it calls "home".

Perhaps if UC earns home-ice (no guarantee about that, mind you) the NCAA will exercise its considerable latitude in siting them within range of a reasonable bus-trip... But if not, who's going to point a finger? This situation was unavoidable under the prevailing circumstances, and sure beats playing golf in the postseason, no matter if and where UC gets to play hockey.

Re: NCAA Rankings?

I know this is a stretch (because I'm talking about the NCAA being reasonable), but if Utica were to earn a home game for the QF against a team that did not play in the first round, then the NCAA should be willing to let that game be played on Friday night (or even Sunday afternoon). It seems there is flexibility in other tournaments (first round games being played either on date A or date B). Is the Aud booked up on Friday, too?

So the head-honcho of The Aud was out on the lake? I'm surprised with Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, and all those perch waiting to be caught you would even remotely think of golf, not to mention that the post season ends weeks before Easter. Now go fill those buckets with fish!!

KRACH (modified Bradley-Terry) is iterative, and its SOS metric is based on the KRACH ratings.

My SOS metrics are different because I use cumulative W-L of opponents rather than the average of the winning percentages, and I include out of region games and games against the NE-10 teams in them. It should be noted that some people here have assumed that the distinction between in and out of region games is gone - my sources tell me that the NCAA has not implemented that change for this year.

That being said, a quick comparison of my data confirms that Utica should be ranked ahead of Norwich, and should be number 1 in the East - however, never underestimate the smoke filled phone call (although this early in the process, the smoke tends not to accumulate)
