NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

The ECAC-W OOC record is not unique to this year. I think you'd find that their OOC record is amongst the top-3 in the country in most (if not all) of the past five years. Point taken about the ECAC-NE games...I'd love to see that trend change...but I would note that trend has not hurt the SOS for teams in the league.

Regardless, I am having a hard time believing you really think that over the past five years the ECAC-W and the MIAC are similar in terms of conference strength?

EDIT:
Now knowing where the data is, I went back over the past seven seasons. The OOC record for the ECAC-W has been #1 or #2 in the country every one of these past seven seasons with one exception (2009-2010 - they were fourth). In this time span, the MIAC has not once had an OOC record above .500.

Also worth noting is the ECAC-W has won the conference head-to-head with the SUNYAC every one of these seven seasons...most of them by a clear margin. (I'm putting my helmet on now bracing for the impending onslaught from Platty and OSU fans)...;)

I only referenced conference standings, and then commented on OOC schedule of one of the leagues..

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Plattsburgh rarely plays ECAC West, no games this year whatsover. With Elmira off the schedule, it doesn't make much sense for that bus ride to take place. It's much easier on the pocketbook for us to play Skidmore, Norwich, Middlebury and Castleton.

Not sure how the Cards have fared over the years against ECAC West.I know they are a little over .500 vs. Elmira all-time. Limited meetings with Utica, Hobart, Manhattanville & Neumann (one game sticks out). So I feel the lopsided advantage over SUNYAC is at least somewhat skewed.

Oh the insanity if Utica were to lose to Oswego IN Oswego.....

I would love to see an Adrian/Hobart matchup...

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

For THIS year. But the ECAC-W is pumped up by a down SUNYAC this year where less than half of the teams have a winning record, and another quarter of the OOC games against the ECAC NE.

No, SOS reflects what the SUNYAC is this year... SOS is a calculation that is blind to tradition and reputation, as it should be, despite certain irrelevant preambles to the contrary "on the other site".

Note NU's SOS, and make a reasonable case for it vs. that of any W team, if you can... (Don't bother; you can't.)

That would be fun for sure. Adrian has had some very impressive records of late, but there's not a lot of comparison-fodder to look at. I'd drive 2 hours and pay $25 to see that one, just to satisfy my curiosity.

And as far as UC being sited at Oswego, that would be fine with me, if Utica can't host... While I don't see the Pioneers sweeping a quality team like OSU, at least that circumstance will save me some gas-money.

(The drive home after a loss blows; the shorter it is, the better.)

Plattsburgh has only played 15 games in the last 10 years against ECAC West going 7-5-3. The bulk of the beatings have been done to Brockport, Cortland & Morrisville.

SOS is a metric. I prefer to see who is playing at the end of the year.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

As I mentioned in the UC thread...The NYS Section III playoffs were moved back two hours this Saturday to accomodate the UC evening game. They showed some "flexibility" which can be looked at as positive for the "potential" NCAA home game. Anything positive I'll take.

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

No argument here Llama. Plattsburgh and Oswego would have a much tougher run at things if they were in the same conference with Utica, Hobart etc. Do I think that we would win our fair share of games and ECAC-W titles? Absolutely. Do I think that we would be #1+2 almost every year like we are in the SUNYAC? No, not even close.

The state games on the 9th already start at 10:00AM with 3 more games to follow, with the last one starting at 5:45PM barring no overtimes in the first three. The two final games are on Sunday. http://www.nysphsaa.org/championships/winter13/icehockey.asp Moving these games back may be rough, besides; how about the morning skates for the two teams in the college game?

Funny you say that, before the SUNY teams stopped competing in the ECAC West Tourney, Plattsburgh and Oswego were usually near the top!

Looks like the only way it will work is if the NCAA lets them play Friday or Sunday. I don't see them letting that happen. The state won't upset the Saturday games as you have people coming in from all over and spending the night. As I said in an earlier post, the only way it could work is if 1 HS game was moved to Friday night and the NCAA letting the game start at 8:30. That would free up about 2+ hours for pratice for the big boys. The problem would be getting the state and the 2 teams that would play Friday night to agree. Right now it doesn't look good, but things could change.

I'm with you - no question (in my mind) teams like Plattsburgh and Oswego would win more than their share of conference titles in any league they played in.

I probably read into Jerry's post more than I needed to...I suspect I have a bit of AQ envy.;)

Benny quit "raining" on my parade. It's the only "positive" thing I have. Besides....None of us has any real clue to what could(might) happen. It's all speculation from the "pnut gallery" here !!

Fredonia, Buff State, and Geneseo also play the about the same number (4-6 games) of ECAC-W teams every year as the three you mention. I'd guess their results may be a little better...but I'd be curious to see just how much better.

I did the stats last year and I think it was around 85ish % of the ECAC Wests NC wins were against the bottom half of SUNYAC and ECAC NE teams.
