NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Wow! 3 goals on 4 shots. Talk about a quick start.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Wow!!! 3-0 BC...BC is jacked...deep hole for UM...poor reception...poor definition...pitiful looking crowd.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Well...I thought it would be close.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

It appears that Minny might have a bit of a hangover after blowing that game to Wisco.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Looks like that initial mistake by Raty sent the team into shock and BC just fed off of it. BC looks like the real deal at least in the first period...lots of speed...very impressed with Stack. Hopefully UM will regroup and claw back and make a game of it. UM outshot BC 2 to 1 so if that continues...

A little hard to imagine Schaus letting Minnesota back into this one and shutting BC down thru the 2nd and 3rd.

I agree but I think it was almost as hard to imagine UW coming back against UM last week when you had your skate blade on their jugular half way thru the game...(sorry if that metaphor is too graphic).

WOW!!!] well it seems pretty clear BC deserved the number 4 seed over Minny, I will eat crow. I am reaching our to a freind at the game and asking that they confirm that the Gophers did make the flight. Watching on the internet it looks a lot more like St Cloud wearing gopher uniforms.

At the risk of sounding like I'm piling on...you know, being a UMD homer and all...the rodents just didn't look like they were playing with much enthusiasm that first period. But it's a long way from finished and anything can happen. ::cough::

Nonsense. Just because Minnesota is playing terribly now doesn't mean they didn't deserve to host under a better NCAA selection criteria. The Green Bay Packers didn't deserve to be a higher seed in the NFC because they won the Super Bowl.

Even if BC singlehandedly steamrolls through the WCHA (though I expect they'll have a tougher time against the UMD-Wisconsin winner), it doesn't change the fact that the RPI failed to capture the strength of the WCHA this regular season. BC right now is playing much better than the BC team that lost to Maine, and Minnesota is playing much worse than the team that once beat Wisconsin.

I was trying to express some humility in an attempt to counter my arrogance earlier in the week. Erikson scores while I am typing, hopefully it will be a game now. Depth should go to Minny so maybe they can rally late.

Sure, sure. And it's fair to give credit where credit is due to BC and Hockey East. But it doesn't change that every human and computer ranking but the RPI and PWR believed Minnesota had the third best regular season in the country.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

That was a better period for the rodents, but Boston looks like the real deal. I don't know if that's due more to the rodents' poor play or if the Eagles are that good, but the Eagles look faster, their passing is shorter and quicker and they're breaking up most of the rodents' breakaway opportunities. And Schaus is looking good in net, but she hasn't really been challenged much yet. Still 20 minutes to play. I wouldn't put money on the outcome just yet.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

Gophers need to pull a "Wisconsin" on the Eagles here in the 3rd!

Re: NCAA Quarterfinals: Minnesota at #4 Boston College, 3/12 at 1pm

BC's a team that's been carried by Stack and Schaus all season. The rest of the team has been terribly inconsistent, but clearly showed up strong in the first period. It's very typical for this team to go ahead on the strength of some spectacular Stack goal and occasional contributions from the rest of the team, then struggle to hold on. Those two make BC dangerous. Minnesota's capable of coming back, but 4 & 3 are obviously huge holes to overcome.
