Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian
As for the Plattsburgh situation, this dead horse has already been beaten well into the ground, but... It's not just about game times. The men's QF requires both teams get 1 hour of practice time the day of the game AND the day before the game, while the women's tournament requires all 4 teams (and the crew of officials) get 1 hour of practice time each day. So, on Saturday that would have required you schedule 7 hours of practice time before the 3:30pm start of the women's 3rd place game, with an ice resurfacing between each. At best, that mean's someone is practicing at 6:30AM... Not gonna happen! (And you can't just have the men practice after the women's games, because the rules say the day-before practices must be no later than 9pm)
Yes and no. ONE team could have HAD to have a practice on Saturday (Trinity). I'm sorry but the reffs do NOT need an hour to warm up, and RARELY ever use the full time slot (some at all). So you have 2 scenarios.
A. (1) Move the Reffs to 615-715am (if they want it even) (2) Move the Trinity men to 730-830 (3) Women keep their slot (4) PSU MEN move their practice. You don't HAVE to practice at the rink, and Im sure Bob would take a practice in Lake Placid to be able to host a Sunday game.
B. (1) Keep times the same and both PSU Men and Women practice at either Lake Placid and or the other local rink (5 minute drive from Stafford). Some may argue "yes but its the Championship game, they should practice on their home ice"...listen folks if after 30 games, hundreds of hours skating at Stafford, if you don't know the ice/boards ect you have issues.
Once again, this is not about a game, this has(should) have everything to do with practice. Either scenario gives all visiting teams the opportunity to skate on the Stafford ice one last time (because the women's game requires the lame consolation game, and therefor practice slots,s which I've heard may be on its way out in case this happens again). Rumor or not, from what I've been told the Women's committee did not want to be "shown up" by the Sunday Men's game, another reason why they don't want to combine the Men's and Women's Final Four.

A lot of talk of seating. The rink at Adrian is top shelf. I am concerned that we as fans could not get better seating. This rink was built several years ago to seat only 460. It could have accommodated at least a 1000.
Last week NCAA gave Hobart college a playoff game. While we were waiting to get inside the rink at 5:45 our boys had to leave the building to warm up in the parking lot running around park cars. An NCAA OFFICIAL was taking pictures of our line of fans waiting to get into the rink. I suggested he take a good picture of our player's warming up in the parking lot. Capacity about 4 to 500 . The place is a disgrace.
A. Adrian has been showing the willingness to get Laker fans in. Hats off to them.
B. About Hobart.
1. The NCAA didn't "GIVE" Hobart a college playoff game, they earned the spot through criteria.
2. Your "boys" didn't HAVE to leave the building, they chose to.
3. As far as running around cars, they could have loaded up and went 100 yards across 5/20 and ran along the Lake if the cars were an issue. OR stayed inside and ran around the rink. It was probably more due to the fact it was warmer outside then in.
4. I'm not sure how many places you've ever been to, but not all rinks are build like the CC
5. I DOUBT the NCAA Official taking pictures of your "line" has little to nothing to do with anything NCAA-wise. We would stand outside of Romney for hours prior to the start of the game. (See #4).
6. Once again, per the NCAA Handbook in regards to "Warm Up Area"
If locker rooms are not large enough for teams to use as a stretching area, provide separate spaces for two teams to use for stretching and warm-up.
There is ample space behind the nets on both sides, plus room behind the benches for teams to "warm up".
7. Is it a disgrace? Some people said Romney was a disgrace too. The old Duke. The old Trinity rink, and several others. And then you have several "community" rinks in which a lot of your MASCAC/ECAC NE teams play in. Now as far as a "top NCAA team" yes, it's on of the worst.
I've said it a million times. If Hobart spent 1/4 of what they do for their other programs on their hockey team, they would consistently up there with the Plattsburgh's, Oswego's, Norwich's, ect of the East. Believe me, it depressing to even play a minor hockey game there when you can go 30 minutes 1 way or the other and see other community rinks in the area, and then you have the restrictions the city/college put on you sharing the arena. Don't miss our 3'x4' information corkboard, the only place we are allowed to have anything posted about the club. If the HS ever was to win a State Championship, sorry no banners allowed. We have to now get approval to build some sort of trophy case for our teams to use, which is likely to get shot down.
Funny story tho (and somewhat Oswego related). We held a family fun night for our Mite (8 and under) Monday night. 2 Hobart players came out (90% of the team left Sunday) and skated with the Mites. We ended up having an "adults vs. kids" game in which the Mite goalie held the Hobart players to just 1 goal, so it wasn't just Zawadzski
There were a few "what is this, Oswego" jokes tossed around. In all seriousness tho, the guys were great with the kids. Not sure wearing a Plattsburgh State hockey hoodie was a good thing tho....
