NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

It's amusing how some Oswego fans whine about the Hobart situation. It would be nice if more schools had rinks like yours, but quit complaining! You won the game and that's what matters!

I think what the whole fuss is all about is that there are different rules at each rink on getting tiks, and the number of tickets as well, and this is for both regular and playoff tickets,I would imagine if there was a system set up for all colleges to use it would be more amicable all around, dont bash fans that just want to support their teams, make it easier for them to do it as these people help support college hockey and the student athletes as well...winning the game is GREAT dont get me wrong but the support is probably even better.

There is a system. There is a % of tickets of the capacity set aside for the visiting school. What the school does with them is up to them. If they choose to give them all to players friends, families, and faculty that's on them. When you play in a small rink, visiting teams are not going to get a lot of tickets, deal with it. People want to pick on Plattsburgh all the time for ticket situations, but its called get in your car early and sit in line (even tho people haven't been turned away). This isn't a neutral site. Teams are ranked where they are and deserve a home game based on the season (or having the women's FF at their opponents rink). Hobart has a small rink, Adrian has a small rink. Either get their early, or find someone in Adrian to get your ticket for you. Adrian could have been real ***holes and put their tickets on sale today, then who's going to/can drive up 2 days early to grab tickets? (and yes some schools have done that) Instead they are giving everyone a last minute day of deadline. THAT alone makes things easier. One of the things that ***** me off about Oswego is when you hear "sold out" yet there are empty seats every where. Why? Because people buy their seats months in advance and then something comes up (did it myself but SOLD my tickets). If everyone had to buy their tickets the day of, there wouldn't be that issue. Both systems have its positives and negatives. I for one have great memories of standing in lines a 4am at Middlebury for NCAA tickets, driving 6 hours to make sure I was in line for tickets in Plattsburgh, standing out in the blistering cold line at Romney waiting for them to open the doors. Just like WTOP, Oswego's ticket procedure and nice comfy rink have spoiled some. And no offense here, its called HOME ICE for a reason.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

Yes and no. ONE team could have HAD to have a practice on Saturday (Trinity). I'm sorry but the reffs do NOT need an hour to warm up, and RARELY ever use the full time slot (some at all). So you have 2 scenarios.

A. (1) Move the Reffs to 615-715am (if they want it even) (2) Move the Trinity men to 730-830 (3) Women keep their slot (4) PSU MEN move their practice. You don't HAVE to practice at the rink, and Im sure Bob would take a practice in Lake Placid to be able to host a Sunday game.
B. (1) Keep times the same and both PSU Men and Women practice at either Lake Placid and or the other local rink (5 minute drive from Stafford). Some may argue "yes but its the Championship game, they should practice on their home ice"...listen folks if after 30 games, hundreds of hours skating at Stafford, if you don't know the ice/boards ect you have issues.

Once again, this is not about a game, this has(should) have everything to do with practice. Either scenario gives all visiting teams the opportunity to skate on the Stafford ice one last time (because the women's game requires the lame consolation game, and therefor practice slots,s which I've heard may be on its way out in case this happens again). Rumor or not, from what I've been told the Women's committee did not want to be "shown up" by the Sunday Men's game, another reason why they don't want to combine the Men's and Women's Final Four.

A. Adrian has been showing the willingness to get Laker fans in. Hats off to them.
B. About Hobart.
1. The NCAA didn't "GIVE" Hobart a college playoff game, they earned the spot through criteria.
2. Your "boys" didn't HAVE to leave the building, they chose to.
3. As far as running around cars, they could have loaded up and went 100 yards across 5/20 and ran along the Lake if the cars were an issue. OR stayed inside and ran around the rink. It was probably more due to the fact it was warmer outside then in.
4. I'm not sure how many places you've ever been to, but not all rinks are build like the CC
5. I DOUBT the NCAA Official taking pictures of your "line" has little to nothing to do with anything NCAA-wise. We would stand outside of Romney for hours prior to the start of the game. (See #4).
6. Once again, per the NCAA Handbook in regards to "Warm Up Area"
If locker rooms are not large enough for teams to use as a stretching area, provide separate spaces for two teams to use for stretching and warm-up.
There is ample space behind the nets on both sides, plus room behind the benches for teams to "warm up".
7. Is it a disgrace? Some people said Romney was a disgrace too. The old Duke. The old Trinity rink, and several others. And then you have several "community" rinks in which a lot of your MASCAC/ECAC NE teams play in. Now as far as a "top NCAA team" yes, it's on of the worst.
Can you please stop making sense Remy? It is unbecoming of this forum, especially at this time of year. I agree 100% with everything you said. If Oswego wanted to not go to Hobart then they should have taken care of business against Potsdam. Hobart is a crap rink but I enjoy going there and it has character.

One of my favorite memories in college was driving up Plattsburgh, waiting in line all day, and watching Plattsburgh beat Oswego in the '08 SUNYAC final and hearing the chant of Ry-an Scott as he skated off the ice for the last time. Waiting in line nearly all day may not sound like a good time, but when you're with friends, you create a good memory.

Those 7am practices at the Cooler in mid-January....yea you can take your character and ...well you know.... Like I said, some of us have become to "complacent" with our nice comfy chairs, our cup holders, t-shirt wearing temperature arena's. Having said all that, a rink upgrade at Hobart would be a welcomed addition, signed someone who will be calling the Cooler home Saturday mornings for the next 10-15 years.......

Absolutely, our group left Rochester at 9PM Friday night a couple weeks ago and did the same thing last year, just to get to the front of the line. The trip, the line, the waiting, the memories. They even purchased a late Oswego fan a ticket to make sure they got in. That's college hockey. I did attend a Rochester Amerks game the other night, still not the same to me. Talent wise, great hockey, but just can't get into the game. It's things like tickets, lines, student/townie crowds that make college hockey...oh and pretzels for Russel.....

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

Im about to hurl,Oswego and platty fans getting along.......whats next 6 more weeks of winter,ow we already have had 10 more

Lou I guess not much else to say,I will watching this game on my cell phone on the you tube fed while making small talk at a fundraiser:eek:,the scheduling gods have not been nice to me lately.

Well very well done Einstein, especially the 1 2 3 and the A B C. Adrian gave us reserved seats two years ago, they gave us SRO only this year. An allotment of tickets went to the family of the players. As they did two years ago.. As I mentioned to drive 8 hours and now to stand the rest of the night is not going to be easy. You asked how long I have been around to see the other rinks in the northeast. I was at the first game in Romney in 1964 so none of us traveling to Adrian are spring chickens. In as much as we complained about Romney it still had more seating then Adrian, Hobart, Hamilton, Babson and a half dozen other barns in the east.
Yes the NCAA gave the game to Hobart. Remember we beat them, Naz twice, tied Elmira and Utica. So you like the amazing formula they choose to facilitate the end season. Maybe the NCAA could come up with a formula for baldness

Doesn't look like it helped you keep up at all

Do you think maybe they grew in season ticket holder numbers? Do you think Oswego used up their allotment of actual seats Adrian gave them? With such a small capacity, it wouldn't take a major flux in ticket sales to reduce/eliminate reserved seats. Maybe the NCAA should put in a special section just for you so you don't have to stand....

As I mentioned to drive 8 hours and now to stand the rest of the night is not going to be easy.
Oh I'm sorry. So cry and complain. Maybe Adrian can tear down a wall and put in some special seating just for you.

You asked how long I have been around to see the other rinks in the northeast. I was at the first game in Romney in 1964 so none of us traveling to Adrian are spring chickens.
No I asked how many rinks you've been to in regards to standing in a line to get tickets, and teams having to warm up that you were so adamant of whining about. If you've been around for so long and you're no "spring chicken" you should know Hobart is one of MANY.

In as much as we complained about Romney it still had more seating then Adrian, Hobart, Hamilton, Babson and a half dozen other barns in the east.
No one is complaining about the atmosphere. You pointed out how much of a pain tickets were having to "stand in line". I was simply pointing out, we use to have to do it at Romney too. Matter of fact back in the first year the CC opened I was at the back of the line, the last one INSIDE the door that game. For hours people waited outside even at the prized CC....

Who cares if I "like" or don't "like", ITS HOW ITS DONE. I go back up to the above. You've been around "so long" yet you don't know the system. Instead of whining about it, try learning it. Being 1-2-1 in your last 4 games vs. 4-0-0 didn't help.... Yes you beat those teams, congrats. So didn't Hobart. Hobart had a HUGE advantage in both Common Opponents (.786 vs .687), Last 25 (.642 vs 1.00) and SOS (.544 vs .518). Once again, Hobart earned their home game. Suck it up. Adrian earned their home game. Suck it up. You don't want to/can't stand that long, don't go. Or go and beg someone for a seat if standing for 2.5 hours is too much. No one is going to build a multi million dollar arena with a couple thousand pretty little seats just because visiting fans might have to stand and not be able to sit, the nerve of them I know. There is nothing wrong with what Hobart and or Adrian has/had done with their ticket sales, seating, and or practice area as per the NCAA Handbook. If you want to limit the rinks in preliminary rounds to 2000+ to accommodate your seating needs, you've eliminated well over two-thirds of the DIII rinks. Adrian offered to make sure no Oswego fan was turned away, just as Plattsburgh has done in OSU/PSU games. Yet some people continue to whine. I'm sure there are a few St.Norbert fans who would be willing to stand in Adrian Saturday evening to watch their team play. (BTW it's only 60 miles shorter then Oswego's drive)

That is 51 years of following college hockey. In case you couldn't formulate that. He is not alone in the feelings of PSUChamps2001 input. But I'll admit he said it better than I would. Have a Safe ride lakont55.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

just as Plattsburgh has done in OSU/PSU games.

You're kidding right. Ask the folks who made the ride, and didn't get in, their opinion on this comment. I LOVE the atmosphere at rivalry sports. PSU/OSU is as intense as you'll find. I would love to call the first week of the year and reserve my tickets for the game in Platty. Oh that's right....... If you want tickets drive up, wait in the snow/cold for a couple of hours to hear sorry sold out. No Frigging thanks.

Need to just let it go boy's!!!!!!

I'd love to because it's never happened. There has always been standing room tickets available. So please, find me one. I was there in the lobby at 6:50pm and they were STILL selling tickets. I have yet to know anyone who got there before 6:00pm to be turned away. You want to show up at 7:00pm and get tickets that's on you.

See how much you know, no one waits in the snow/cold...they let you in.... keep trying...

The line for tickets at te Ronnie B is inside running down the hall and into the back door of the gym, nobody waits outside (unless you get there before the facility opens at 6am). And he college will tell you that nobody has been turned away since the renovation in 2008 (when they reduced seating). Just because your buddies were told that there was only Standing Room available does NOT mean they were turned away... If they chose to walk away rather than buy an SRO ticket, that was their choice and not the fault of the SUNY Plattsburgh.

If you want a seat, you've got to do the math... 1200 season ticket holders, 400 student section seats, 50-100 reserved for Oswego family & friends... That 1700 of the 1924 seats and reserves rail spots claimed right there. With each person able to buy up to 4 tickets, you need to be in the first 50 in line to guarantee a seat, the first 30 or so to get multiple seats together, and the first 10 to really have a choice of where you sit... And doing so for the Oswego game generally means getting there around 8-9am. Getting a seat at all means getting there no later than 11am. People bring lawn chairs in to the building all the time to wait in line, so it's not like you have to stand the whole time you're in line, either. Get your lazy bum off out of bed and drive up early (or the night before), or don't camplain when they tell you that you have to stand.

Apparently Oswego fans have some aversion to standing? That seems to be the theme of this thread at the moment.

Re: NCAA Quarterfinal - Oswego @ Adrian

I stand every game at Oswego and I try to get on the top row if possible to stand when I am on the road. Honestly if I drove all that way to Adrian, sitting down, I would want to stand for the game to stretch my body out a bit. Especially if I was going to try and drive home afterwards.
