NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

Sounds like some of the local yokels aren't too thrilled with how Shawhan's exit was handled. You'll have that when he's a Yooper and they view him as family, so it's understandable to a degree, but there's some very irrational social media commentary (what else is new?) on this.

I'm just looking forward to hopefully seeing the program led by a coach who doesn't cause so much media drama and isn't hated by a majority of his players.

I'm going to leave the link here to properly credit THG, but the highlight is that Muckalt's base salary will start at $315,000/yr and will increase $5,000 per year through 2029-2030. Of course there are multiple other bonuses and incentives, but bottom line it was definitely an offer Billy could not refuse.

MTU presser to introduce Muckalt this morning lasted 8 minutes. No questions and no mention of Shawhan, though the media were granted 1-on-1 interviews with Bill. Keeping the press conference short and not allowing open questions is probably due to the negative reaction to the change from some local yokels.

To me, this indicates MTU's decision was already made a year ago when they opted out of extending his contract, and this was a matter of timing. The only thing to be done was to quietly conduct the head hunting exercise for the right coach and work out the terms of his deal. Not announcing & conducting a "national search" eliminated the flood of lower tier applicants they would've gotten, because they already had 2-3 guys targeted for the backfill, it was just a matter of coming to terms.

I'm guessing AD Sanregret had a long talk with her nephew (K. Kukkonen) about Joe before he bolted for Madison. His experience, plus the Marinkevics tape (physically threatening a player), other player interviews & formal complaints, the second-half collapse this season where he'd clearly lost the room, the inability to play competitively in the NCAA tournament the last couple of times they made it, and the other off-ice stuff over the years resulting in negative press - it all added up and it was time to move on.

Sounds like Maryville in St Louis is getting ready to make a push to D1 in the next couple years. Lindenwood would get a rival and there'd be enough teams for a conference, especially if TSU actually happens. Though the latter is already looking bleak given TSU said they're playing a late game against BU in Nashville on 10/4 and RPI says they're playing BU in the afternoon on 10/5 in Boston.

In the NHL thread I highlighted how much the World Junior tickets were compared to MSU season tickets. I made sure to include “last season” in there because I figured there would be some type of increase. Well, they did increase. Face value only two bucks a game, so not too significant there. But they also added what I was dreading in a mandatory scholarship fee progressing by section. In some sections the fee is up to 75% of the ticket cost.

Since tickets were already sold out, I don’t think it’ll be a case of being able to move to a non-donation section if you don’t/can’t afford it because that would bump someone else who was already there. I feel there will be a lot of old timers who stuck through 15 years of awfulness that end up getting bumped, plus I know a couple families of four who just saw their seats get an automatic 1,200 fee attached.

Big Ten is changing the tournament format. Scrapping the best 2 out of 3 first round and moving the first round to a single elimination on the Wednesday before the semifinals. Takes the tournament from 15 days to 9 as well as shortening the time off for a team eliminated in the first round who also made the NCAAs.

First round is on Wed Mar 11, followed by the semis on the 14th and finals on the 21st.
