NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

ESPN with a great graphic about DU and BC having the two longest active winning streaks in D-1 hockey. Who could have possibly guessed that?

A question for the historians in the house: when is the last time a father/son duo won national championships? With Lukas Gustafsson on the BC roster it has a chance to happen tonight. His father Marcus won the title with Maine in 1999.

It would be incredible if Lukas repeated his father's accomplishment and scored the game winner.

Doesn't look promising for the Gustafsson family tonight.

That being said, your question is interesting. I'm sure it has happened. Probably more than a few times. But, I can't think of an instance at the moment.

Sounds like regional format will remain, the only conferences with coaches that support the campus /higher seed host format are the nchc and big.

I suppose hockey east is worried about having to drive more than 15 minutes to a game, potentially.

looking forward to more sparsely attended games at crappy neutral sites

Technically schools can host a regional at their rink, right? Notre Dame did a few years back, they just didn't make the tournament that year to take advantage of it. I think they're just likely to be the last option if there are other neutral site bids. The perennial tourney qualifiers might as well start submitting bids and make them choose 2,500 seat arenas in Missouri over Mariucci or Englestad.

WMU is about to have a new arena in a couple years that would be a great setup. 6,500 seats, right downtown Kalamazoo with a good amount to do within walking distance of the arena. But it would probably get axed because it will be a home arena.

Yeah this is result disappointing. I would have hoped they would see current regionals for the disasters they are.

i think you're onto something DGF

K-Wings Stadium is *right* up the street and how many regional have been hosted there?
Van Andel?
Every ECHL arena in the Central division?

All location that could suitably host but it's the same sh*t cities.

Maybe the problem is the cost of renting out to the NCAA when the areas will lose oulose ad revenue and beer sales? Or the cost these schools have to incurr?

Wasn't it the CCHA or WCHA that opted to host a regional instead of a school a few years ago? Maybe that needs to be the change to draw more attention?

Or maybe everything in this world is too goddammed expensive and the usual fan bases that could pack for a road trip in a week to see their team just can't afford it anymore.

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought the notre dame gear was an exception, but maybe not.

every western team should just start bidding in their home arenas. Current solution works well for the east and not so well for the west.

I’ve never actually been to the KWings Stadium. I’ve only seen it from the highway and thought it was less than 5k. So I guess that’s always been an option, though it’s not really walking distance to anything.

I can’t remember if it was a trial run to bring things back to campus or if it was because literally no one else bid for a midwest region. Either way, might as well flood it with campus bids and force them to choose an arena smaller than 75% of D1 home rinks, which is actually a home rink in itself.
