National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

No, definition is fine. But the campus isn't Mpls./St. Paul it's UMTC which is the Twin Cities. And the Twin Cities includes all surrounding suburbs. So, my 16-17 number is more accurate than Dirty's baiting 0.

I always thought that the Twin Cities were Minneapolis and St. Paul...guess you learn something new every day. To include all those extra cities is a bit odd though...given the definition of "twin."

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

According to your overly broad definition, sure.

That's the difference here. We all know where his definition comes from and he admits it. You still have yet to admit yours came from thin air.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

A pi burn. Yes! I can officially take a break from this thread.

So then slightly bigger than a "small district" = 5 mile radius.

I was never a math major :)

So, how many players does the University of Minnesota have that are from a 5 mile radius of the Twin Cities campus?

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

They also have remote campuses all over the state. I took classes in Chaska for my MBA at the UofM.

Did UofM-Chaska accept any class credits from Purdue?

Or the Dictionary.

I haven't seen anything that matches what he's claiming.

If you can't get the math right, how can we believe anything anymore? Again, my faith in this message board is shaken.

Homegrown Definition:
1. grown or made at home or in your local area; or
2. raised in or coming from your local area

Local Definition:
1. pertaining to or characterized by place or position in space; spatial.
2. pertaining to, characteristic of, or restricted to a particular place or particular places: a local custom.
3. pertaining to a city, town, or small district rather than an entire state or country: local transportation.
4. stopping at most or all stations: a local train.
5. pertaining to or affecting a particular part or particular parts, as of a physical system or organism: a local disease.

Dirty's definition is certainly more appropriate than including everyone in the entire State of the University of Minnesota.

I haven't seen anything that matches what he's claiming.

See above. It had already made its way to the second page...although you had posted within 3-4 posts of when I originally posted it.

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

So an anomaly(definition- unusual or unexpected) of 2 Grand Forks residents playing on the UND team -vs- 0 from Minneapolis and St Paul proper means what again.......heck East Grand Forks is 1/6 the size of Grand Forks and they have 1 player on the Whioux team.....and that means nothing!!

DUBBS corrected it for us. A 5 mile radius (78 square miles) is slightly bigger than a "small district" (D.C. - 70 square miles).

I ask again, how many players does the University of Minnesota have that are from a 5 mile radius of the Twin Cities campus?

If you feel slighted and need the 250 square miles...that would equate to roughly a 9 mile radius (assuming my math is correct). Not sure if that significantly changes things for you guys.

Sigh... okay... here is the definition.

home·grown
[hohm-grohn]
adjective
1. grown or produced at home or in a particular region for local consumption: homegrown tomatoes.
2. native or indigenous to or characteristic of a region: homegrown musicians.

This dictionary says region. How do you define that? I also looked up district trying to find your 5 mile number. Funny, it wasn't there and it also includes a reference to the word region.

dis·trict
[dis-trikt]
noun
1. a division of territory, as of a country, state, or county, marked off for administrative, electoral, or other purposes.
2. a region or locality: the theater district; the Lake District.

And just further adding to my point, here is region.

re·gion
[ree-juhn]
noun
1. an extensive, continuous part of a surface, space, or body: a region of the earth.
2. Usually, regions. the vast or indefinite entirety of a space or area, or something compared to one: the regions of the firmament; the regions of the mind.
3. a part of the earth's surface (land or sea) of considerable and usually indefinite extent: a tropical region.
4. a district without respect to boundaries or extent: a charming region in Connecticut.
5. a part or division of the universe, as the heavens: a galactic region.

Strange but regions sound pretty big. A little more than 5 miles.

That's right! East Grand Forks is within a 5 mile radius...so North Dakota has 3 homegrown players! Woo Hoo! :p:D:D

First we have to teach the Whioux how to spell (M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A) and now we're expected to teach them math and geography too......so much for the North Dakota educational systems.

Your definition of homegrown includes the entire universe!

Makes sense now that the Gophers try to claim all sorts of titles and stuff when nobody else does. Their definition of "homegrown" includes everyone on the planet!!! :p:D:D

So, if I follow, since our (few) Minnesota born players are from our region, we can count them as home-grown.

Good.

Please refrain from claiming them in the future.

FWIW, you can claim every player as being "homegrown" talent now. North Dakota's homegrown talent includes every hockey player to have ever played! Take THAT! :p:D:D

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Grant Besse? Homegrown Badger player.

Joseph LaBate? Ditto.

Kevin Schulze? Yeppers!
