1960?
You're right. Can't believe I forgot that.
I'll go sit in a corner
1960?
Point 3: Yes, 7 > 5 is meaningful and anyone spouting 7 = 7 is dragging women's hockey in to an equation
My apologies, 73 years ago. And since 444 brought major conferences in all sports into the discussion, does that mean you are suggesting that the gophers were completely irrelevant in major conference sports other than hockey? That makes sense, thanks for the clarification.
Looks like it's actually been 53 years , as even I forgot 1960.
And the discussion was on how being in a major sports conference, with it's own national television network, has provided even more national exposure for a Gopher program that already dominated the country in that department before the move to the Big Ten. Case in point, the Gophers had two regular season games on ESPN Networks this season, and a few games on NBC networks that outdrew many NHL broadcasts by that network.
In other words, it's no coincidence that your Frozen Four game was tentitively scheduled for the early game, but then switched to the night game as soon as the Gophers punched their ticket as your opponent.
You're welcome![]()
No, no they're not. They are talking about National Championships that were won before the NCAA existed. It's not really that hard to understand is it? College hockey did not start when the NCAA started to sanction it, and there were National Titles declared before NCAA titles started being declared. You folks whioux have had so many issues with the NCAA should be able to accept such logic.![]()
Perhaps that was because it was assumed by the NCAA smarties that Jan would smoke the gophers? Since the night game is usually reserved for the top seed making it to the frozen four?
If National Titles were declared before NCAA titles...who won all these "National Titles"?
The Sioux won every national title before there were official national titles, except in years when we didn't play hockey. Those years we won Northern-States-except-Alaska quasi-national title. The Gophers won 6 straight national bantam titles playing out of the Bloomington Gardens. If National Titles were declared before NCAA titles...who won all these "National Titles"?
Even if that weren't utterly ridiculous, you're still overlooking the fact that your program had it's ticket punched the previous day, and you're program's presence wasn't enough for the NCAA to move the game to the evening.
The Gophers move the TV meter, and that is what this discussion is about.
If National Titles were declared before NCAA titles...who won all these "National Titles"?
Correct. As far as TV execs are concerned...
Boston College = Minnesota
BC or MN > North Dakota
North Dakota > Union
Minnesota. Pay attention.![]()
Agreed. BC is still WAY ahead of North Dakota:Hahaha... Boston College is no where near MN.
It took Notre Dame to get them a national TV deal. And even Notre Dame's highest rated game on NBCSN was against MN.
Minnesota <a href="http://unitedstatesofhockey.com/2013/11/17/college-hockey-roundup-milano-switches-to-bc-big-tv-ratings-for-minnesota-notre-dame-more/"> moves the TV meters</a>
Is this where you are going to say that because national championships weren't awarded every year before the NCAA that those accomplishments were meaningless?
Just like a Whioux fan. Any hockey played before they joined didn't exist.

It is just sad that some Gopher fans try to count being co-ranked #1 by one of the several polls (with Yale) in 1929 as a National Championship. The same can be said for counting the 1940 AAU Championship (won over...I kid you not...a group of milkmen from Connecticut...not even college hockey teams). Gopher fans have enough history, tradition, and success in every facet of their program, there is no need to try and argue that these should be counted along with NCAA National Championships. They are two different eras. I don't think anyone here will try and argue that North Dakota had a better hockey program before the NCAA era...largely because North Dakota only played 1 season in the pre-NCAA era.
Not what I'm saying at all.
Are you saying that the only two years "national titles" were awarded were 1929 (and only to one of the two teams co-ranked #1?) and 1940?
Hahaha... Boston College is no where near MN.

Didn't say that.
