National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Given how proud its' fans are of them, Minnesota should probably consider adding a mural of the team's TV ratings at Marriucci.

Hmm... maybe the Olive Garden needs to install a TV at the bar. That way at least a few more folks would get to see the game.

Are you suggesting you want to add the Grand Forks Olive Garden to the Marriucci Mural as well? Not a bad idea!

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Simple. You need us but we really don't need you. That explains why all the Sue/Whioux fans went nuts about not scheduling you this year. Our fans were disappointed that the rivalry took some time off, but most were okay just watching you get up in arms about it.

This is exactly the comment from Gopher fans that make me mad. If you didn't need us, then why are:

- Gopher vs UND games at Mariucci Arena higher priced than any Gopher game year in and year out
- Final Five games between these teams better attended than other games
- I don't believe there is one team the Gophers have played as much in key games (WCHA Final Five, Regionals) as UND
over the past couple years

This whole pretend we don't care stuff from Gopher fans is getting old. I doubt there is any team in the Midwest that is happy with conference realignment and I highly doubt your fan base is more excited to play Big Ten teams than UND.

I don't think either program "needs" the other to be successful. Gophers aren't the most profitable hockey program in the country because they can price tickets for a handful of games higher. Same can be said for UND. The ticket prices they can charge at the Ralph for Gopher games isn't going to make or break North Dakota's program.

All that said, no doubt these games are a blast to watch. No team I would rather see the Gophers play on the big stage in a few weeks. Win or lose, the game is going to be a blast to watch.

Gopher players know what a sock is, and can keep their toes attached. UND is way, way ahead on arrests, about 20 in the last 10 years alone.
Curiously, the gophers own the meth, crack and heroin addiction trophies, both player (Hagemo) and media(Dubay)! 2>0!!

All valid points but Minnesota is in a major conference in all sports with a national television contract worth millions.

Since there is clearly no expiration date on smack talk, how is that major conference membership thing working out for the gophers performance wise? Oh yeah - football championships literally 100 years ago!

You need to look up the meaning of the term "literally". The Gopher's last national title in football (a sport completely irrelevant to this discussion) was in 1941.

The 2012 BC team will be playing the 2012 Gopher team in Philly?

And here I thought the 2014 Minnesota and North Dakota squads were playing for the right to play the winner of Boston College and Union's 2014 squads.
Can we get another shot at the 2008 BC team? On second thought, never mind.

Pretty sure it was like 70 years ago, hilarious and irrelevant, though.:)

Re: National Semi-Final: Minnesota vs. North Dakota

Point 1: I am glad to see a Sioux vs. Gophers game this year in such a meaningful setting. The Gophers are favored as they should be since they had a better season. That said, it seems a bit like Louisville vs. Kentucky right now with the Sioux playing the part of Kentucky. A Kentucky vs. Michigan analogy also holds.

Point 2: Anyone that thinks the Big 10 hockey conference is or was a good move for the Gophers is in denial. Besides the weak teams such as PSU and OSU, both MSU and UMich were down this year. The NCHC was a better conference. Neither compare with last year's WCHA. That said, 6 former and 2 current WCHA teams made the NCAA tourney (Minny, Winny, Ferris, Kato, Sioux, SCSU and Denver).

Point 3: Yes, 7 > 5 is meaningful and anyone spouting 7 = 7 is dragging women's hockey in to an equation which could be even further played with by adding golf, tennis, wrestling, etc. To me, the national champions are great but there is more to playing and being successful than winning a national championship. There are the All-Americans, the NHLers, the WCHA crowns, etc. As a UND fan, I still revel in the Hrkac Circus as well as other eras where great Sioux teams competed.

Point 4: This Fan Forum tends to be more smack than hockey talk. I guess if guys prefer smack as entertainment, then this is the place to be. I've doled out some in the past. I'd rather hear some serious hockey talk. That said, I will truly be surprised if the Sioux win this game but not nearly as surprised as when Yale took it all last year. The national tournament is about getting in and being hot for 4 consecutive games. That's it and that's all it will ever be.

Point 5: Good luck to both teams and GO SIOUX!

That's true. North Dakota is #3 in the Capitol One cup which covers performance in all athletics. Hard to beat that.

You are sorely mistaken.

My apologies, 73 years ago. And since 444 brought major conferences in all sports into the discussion, does that mean you are suggesting that the gophers were completely irrelevant in major conference sports other than hockey? That makes sense, thanks for the clarification.
