eh. FredsDeadFriend sorta brought that on with what I thought was a rather sanctimonious post. Further reading of the thread revealed it was on several such posts by FDF
More like a couple of dozen posts. All kidding aside, as an older poster who saw Parker and York play against a each other, us easterners find the western bias a little off putting at times. There is now a ton of parity in college hockey now and what Yale and union showed the last two years is not a fluke. I know that some of the older western school posters know that, but FDF does give your program a bad name and feeds the perception of bias. I believe BUPhD was attempting to play with FDF to make a point.
Also the whole "state of hockey" claim is a bit much when the reality is that there are several states of hockey with hockey programs the equal of the Gophers. I grew up through the BU vs MN rivalry that exploded in the 70's when both programs won 3 titles but never faced off against each other in the championship game. And of course we have the whole 80 Olympics deal with the MN vs MA players thingie.
Suffice it to say that there is enough boasting from multiple states and programs to go around without reverting to making some over the top claims that only serve to reinforce the western bias perception.
I for one enjoyed the last 2 FFs because it is good for college hockey when schools like Union and Yale win without scholarships or big time traditional hockey power reputations showing their is another's any to win. And that is there is a lot of good talent out there and even better coaching than there was 15-20 years ago
I can't wait for Boston next year. And also hoping ESPN would retire Barry Melrose. I think we can all agree he's brutal
