Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Hey UAFHockeyFan314,
Does it seem like USCHO has had server issues the last few days? Or is it only me?

We can’t really blame officiating for the first two games of the Governor’s Cup, no matter how awful it was. When we rack up 48 shots (83 on the weekend) and four posts on a Saturday night and still can’t get it done, it’s just bad juju. We should have been close to putting up a ten spot on the Seaweed two. But that’s what’s both frustrating and yet endearing about the game.

If the Nooks continue to play like they did this weekend, we may still have a shot at putting up a 10 spot on the Seaweed.

Mantha has been ridden hard and put up wet by his D the entire second half of the season. I think Thomas screwed up playing him night after night in their losing streak. He's held up well but you can't let a frosh goalie get hit with 35-40+ shots every night. He was bound to crack eventually and it just so happened to be this weekend against Tech. The question is whether or not they can recover mentally after getting drawn and quartered by Tech.

Maybe USCHO just caught a bit of the flu bug that's going around and that's why it looked a bit sluggish and was not performing well. I hear that's a good excuse. :)

I'll take some of that speculation........ 2 muskrat pelts vs. 6 of your "best finds" at the mall........

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

T. Morley and Cahill named WCHA offensive and defensive players of the week.

It probably shouldn't count since Mankato says they had sick and injured players, though.

I’m feeling guilty now. Maybe we could ask the Commissioner to retroactively vacate those games due to Maverick illnesses. I believe they came down with a strain of the pairwise flu.

Surprised this hasn't popped up over here as it has been on the interwebs, but Justin Woods is cancer free. Good news!

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Understandably the Nooks aren’t mentioned in any of the team threads that are pontificating about playoff positions. But I’m sure the team wants to finish fourth even though they are not eligible for the playoffs, ESPECIALLY because they are not eligible for the playoffs. It would say something to have locked up a home ice position in each of the first two years of WCHA conference play.

I was hopeful the Nooks could lock up fourth, but NMU tightened up the race by sweeping BGSU. I still think things favor the Nooks, but by a slim margin. The Nooks need to win all four remaining games (2xUAH and 2xUAA). Very doable, but any four game stretch on the road takes sustained hard work.

But if that happens:
a. NMU would have to take a combined 6 points from LSSU and MTU, to tie the Nooks.
b. BSU would have to take a combined 6 points from FSU and MSU, to tie the Nooks.
c. FSU would have to sweep BSU and LSSU to tie the Nooks.

The Nooks can’t afford to look past UAH…but have got to be fired up for the re-match with UAA.
It will be the last game of the season for Alaska, and <del>both Alaska teams</del> possibly for UAA.

Go Nooks!

Last games of the season?
As usual you're counting your eggs before they hatch.
Oh well....typical UA_ garbage.

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Both WCHA writers are picking a split in Huntsville, questioning the Nooks commitment and motivation on a lost season (my words, not theirs…but that’s what they meant). The Chargers are fighting for a playoff spot so it will be a battle. The Nooks need to play with the same intensity over their last four games as they did against MSU, and do it for the seniors.

Go Nooks!

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

The Nooks are outshooting the Charges 27-6 after two, but are down 2-1. They’re skating circles around the Chargers but are playing with no sense of urgency. No real determination or finish on anything. Maybe the USCHO writers had it right. The Nooks may come back and win this if SOGs continue, but their effort so far probably doesn’t deserve it.

Finally we get the puck past, And again and again. Too many games this year with so many shots with so few goals. Let's keep the pressure on tomorrow and put the puck in the net a little earlier. Goooo nanooks!!

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

I always feel kind of bad beating Huntsville since I'd like to see them do well. Although I'm sure that feeling will dissipate once we drop one to them.

Guys are playing pretty well right now. It took two periods to get to Guerrero (sp?) but once we did the afterburners came out and that was that.

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

We’re a good skating club that can really motor up and down the ice which sometimes works against us. We weren’t really getting after it until we were down two goals, then you could see a little bit of desperation or intensity get back into their game. It’s always dangerous when you don’t jump on a team early when you have the talent to do so. Giving the other team confidence does not often end well. But good job boys. Lets’ do it again tonight…just earlier.

Go Nooks!

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

UAF & UAH tied at 2 after the first. UAF outshooting UAH 17-7. Very sloppy game with no flow. Cahill has let in two pretty soft goals and head doesn't seem to be in the game. Wouldn't be surprised to see Keeney in net starting the 2nd.

At least we're tied at two instead of down two after one. So there's that.

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Tied at 3 after two periods. SOGs 32-14 Nooks.
Lets go boys. Fire up a little bit.
LSSU beat NMU and BSU & FSU tied, so you have a good chance for 4th place in the conference.
