Welcome to Alaska Lakers. You get the full meal deal. I know you went to Anchorage earlier in the season, but that doesn’t really count, and you will find out why this weekend. Expect low temps around -45, but a more moderate -25 in the warmth of the mid-day sun. :) Fortunately, it’s a dry cold… ;)

Let me know if you want me to call you at 3:00am when the lights start dancing.

Go Nooks!

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

So we won 3-1, and both Tim O'Donnell and Doyle Woody are saying Cahill got a shutout. What am I missing?

Sweeeeeeeep.

Hope there's not too much of a love fest for Stephon Williams' return.
Stephon has been very solid this year - except against Alaska back in December. If he was over-amped to play against his hometown school, I hope he manages that better this time around. Should be an excellent series.

A couple years back Steve Summerhays of Anchorage came up with his Notre Dame team and he got shelled by the Nooks. Hoping for a similar result this weekend.... ;)

Hey gang, are any of you coming to Huntsville? I'm pulling together ideas for a Saturday social for incoming fans, and I'd like a guesstimate on how many of you will be in town.

You believe anything Woody writes?

Woody is probably the best hockey writer in the state. That he doesn't slobber all over the UAF and UAA is, I believe, less a function of him and more a function of instructions from his bosses.

Believe me, you're not the only one disgruntled with sports media and its attitude toward local NCAA sports in Alaska. And the News Miner isn't any better in that regard.

Just tell them to stay at the Embassy Suites ( team stays there) ...Happy hour 5:30- 7:30 ....Free Booze............. a easy walk to the rink and a easier way back via the parking garage . Social can't get much cheaper

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

I looked at the stat comparison between us and Mankato and they are statistically better than us almost across the board...our guys are, on average, slightly fatter.

We have accounted for 20% of Mankato's losses though, so I know we can hang when we play to our potential.

It's too early to write the postmortem on this wacky lost season of Nanook hockey, but here's to hoping something special happens and our seniors can walk off home ice as winners. That's a group of men that could have packed it in after November but kept skating and kept their heads up. They've made us proud.

Go 'Nooks.

Re: Nanook Nation 2014-2015

Sometimes you just need to state the obvious.

For success, the boys will have to release the puck quicker in the scoring zone to catch Stephon Williams out of position or to get a better chance to pounce on a rebound. We tend to overpass in close. Keep it simple.

And we need to quit making soft little passes on transition that never make it out of our own zone. MSU is too quick and skilled and will make us pay big time. We have to make sure we clear the zone. We tend to give up too many turnovers due to carelessness.

And since special teams could make the difference in this series, we need to stay out of the box, but when called upon, pressure more on the PK and not let MSU pick us apart. Did I mention MSU is quick and skilled, and falling back and trying to block shooting lanes won’t work. On PP opportunities we need to get their defense moving side to side with quick passes. We tend to hold the puck too long up top.

And goaltending needs to be uncharacteristically sharp. But with it being the last series at the Carlson for our seniors, I am optimistic for some points this weekend.

MTU should sweep the Seaweed so hopefully we can make the upcoming MSU vs MTU match up that much more meaningful for the conference title.

Go Nooks!
