MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

They did? I know its only after one game, but still, it would be great if no Colorado schools made it to St. Paul. They bring nothing to the table when it comes to fans or atmosphere.

Completely agree. All the teams I want to see in St. Paul won tonight. If these teams hold serve over the series it is going to be one FUN Final Five.

Perfect F5 for me has always been: MN, UND, WI, MTU, tUMD. All bring the most boisterous fans, good and bad. I would love for that to happen for the next two years.

I'd gladly play Wisconsin this year. Great game played by Tech tonight. all pieces of the puzzle fit just right. tomorrow night frightens me. but I'm off to look for airline tickets anyway!!

But if you're worried about a repeat of Tech's last trip, that wouldn't happen if the winners tonight hold true. MN and UMD would get byes, Tech would play SCSU and UND would play UW on Thursday.

Ah, haven't looked that far. Either way, go Tech.

I think I heard that Houghton scored on 2 of 9 total shots on net to win 2-1. To add to the bizarrity, Calumet won their first boys district basketball title tonight (as far back as the records go, at least 60 years). The world must be upside down, if basketball is getting enough respect in Calumet that actual athletes are playing it.

Brighton's game was similar. They got out shot 12-1 in the first period and 38-15 for the whole game. What's the saying...."some days I'd rather be lucky than good"...well that certainly was one of those days.

Great game out of the Huskies last night, hope they've got one more in them. Go Huskies!

It's gonna be a long day of hockey. Head down to take in the Houghton game, stick around for the Brighton game, and back home to catch the Huskies. HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY gotta love this time of year :)

8 more would be great, but I'll be happy if they get one more this weekend, and worry about the others later.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Well, both of the previous times we won a playoff series at CC, we needed at least one overtime win to do it. In 1994, we needed two overtime wins, and an All-World goaltending clinic from Jamie Ram. I think this team is certainly better than the '94 team in all aspects except goaltending, and somewhat better offensively than the '07 team, but more inconsistent defensively and in net.

Another key in both series was winning Game 1. So at least they took care of that last night.

Wow finally almost a positive comment from Fade....

Great job Tech, take care of business tonight.

Ah the epic "We're number 10" chant. All while enjoying the nice seats CC was supposed to have.

And one period gone by for Houghton still scoreless. Listening to Jimmy the Greek is always great :)

Since when did I become the Mike Babcock of USCHO? :p

We achieved the 15-win milestone last night, thus hitting the upper limit of my expectations for Pearson's first year. I hope we can finish this series off tonight, though I would expect CC to come out harder now that their season is completely on the line. We will have to exceed that intensity.

Hill-Murray is playing for the title right now in front of 19,000+, I have to imagine that there are several eyes on this in Colorado Springs right now. Both Sova and Furne are Hill alums, and Gabe Guentzel's little brother is currently playing for Hill. Probably at least 10 future D1 players, hopefully some future Techies on the ice.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Awesome, back to the final five!!

A summary of Mel's postgame thoughts, Tech Hockey Guide will have the full audio I'm sure on their you tube page:
Give our team credit, worked hard, good start
We played a good game, Robo had a heck of a game
This may be the first time pulling the goalie resulted in a goal this year
What a win - so happy for all Tech alums, the fans, the copper country, win or lose it was a great weekend, better winning
D Johnstone gets OT goal on redirect, great job
We didnt' get many through tonight from the point, but the OT shot made it
Olson and Baker and Pietila were on a line, they all played hard
Huge to get Sunday off before playing on Thursday - not sure on our travel schedule, not concerned with that now
Hope to see a lot of Tech people in St. Paul on Thursday
