MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

For good karma, tune into 93.5 on pasty.net to listen in the the 3rd period as the Houghton Gremlins are up 2-0 over GRCC in the D3 state semifinal. It would be another huge win for Houghton, who already upset Calumet, and Cranbrook is out of it as well. I don't even know who they would play in the final Saturday if they win, some relative no-namer.
If you don't believe in omens, tune in for the simple joy of listening to the most yooperish hockey broadcasters in the business.

I haven't been able to get the feed from pasty.net to work once in the last year. So, I'll pass. Plus, Thief is playing Hermantown...

it's also on 102.3, which I believe is also linked on pasty.net, but the announcers don't have quite the same panache.

edit: D'OH! I jinxed 'em.

Thief is still playing Hermantown and when given the choice between listening to #TheTourney or whatever is going on in Michigan, I'll chose #TheTourney.

Huskies win in three, Sunday's game goes into overtime. A Husky fan gets kicked out of the World Arena on Sunday, and the Huskies join me in Minnesota for the Final Five.

Why does that all sound so familiar?

**** the World Arena staff. ****ing Nazis.

You're coming to the Final 5?

Seriously? They're a bunch of geriatrics. You are a very bitter person, aren't you?

I predict CC in two. Tech will be over-confident after acclimating to the altitude, then realize it makes no difference, and stumble.

The day Tech's hockey team is "overconfident", I can die happy. Although I feel pretty good about the parallels to 2007, including the Coach of the Year award.

I still listen to the clip on YouTube from Calumet's '08 OT championship win. "GOAAAAAAL! GOAAAAAL! GOAAAALLLLLL!"

Houghton Won, and Brighton just won their D1 semi-final in double overtime after getting completely out played for three periods. That game looked so familiar.

I think I heard that Houghton scored on 2 of 9 total shots on net to win 2-1. To add to the bizarrity, Calumet won their first boys district basketball title tonight (as far back as the records go, at least 60 years). The world must be upside down, if basketball is getting enough respect in Calumet that actual athletes are playing it.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

I predict Tech wins Friday night and Saturday night and then rents the ice at World Arena for Sunday afternoon and tell CC to get their tails back on the ice and pounds them into the oversized sheet for a third time just to stay warm before their flight to MSP.

Go Tech!

2 goals on 7 shots.

Nice start to the weekend!

Mel's postgame thoughts:
we had a lot of things going for us, Robo was key, couple big saves early
We were better team other than 5x3, first call was good, Mel didn't see the second call
We wore their Dmen down, we want to put pressure on other team
All 4 lines were rolling, want everyone playing don't know hwo many games this will go
Our Dmen played well and Josh looked good
A lof of good players tonight, D. Johnstone with a nice goal to get us going, Stebner and Neilson were rock solid

Careful. WI won too. I don't want a repeat of last time. That sucked.
They did? I know its only after one game, but still, it would be great if no Colorado schools made it to St. Paul. They bring nothing to the table when it comes to fans or atmosphere.

Yeah, 1-0. I am getting flashbacks to MTU-WI F5. Jeep Jam year. Horrible year.
