MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

hmmm. winning the conference. unlikely I would guess, but sure why not.

Regarding the games. It appears that it takes around 10 days to get acclimated to the altitude.( 4 weeks totally),and that Vo2 max is affected over 4500 ft.
I do a lot of hiking and if you hike Machu Picchu, the outfitter requires 4 days in town before the hike starts, minimum. it's a four day hike that tops at 13,000 ft.

So will they be acclimated, no, but they will be in a lot better shape than on saturday night.

I think they will play better even than they did on saturday, and that getting used to big ice and the altitude will all be a factor. I think saturday was close to playoff hockey; good defense, hard work, take advantage of chances when they come. I expect CC to do that as well. Should be a great series.Lets hope we can solve thormbert.

I have a question for those who were there. Did CC run four lines?

also did anyone else see this?

It should be a very interesting series. Tech skated well on the big ice last night, and I expect them to be quite comfortable on it next weekend. Last night would have been a completely different outcome if not for the fact that Josh Thorimbert played one of the best games of his career so far.

And yeah, CC rolled 4 lines.

Peruvians don't "require" anything except for your money. :) I did the trek over Thanksgiving and started up the day I got there. And ours topped out at 15,300 ft. But I guess I was already acclimated coming from here.

Did I read that some of you Tech fans are just staying in town for the week?

Money not being an issue would anyone be in favor of big sheet in the Mac?

No.

A big sheet in the area would be nice, but I like Tech's NHL-sized sheet. More western colleges have the small ice than the large anyway, which encourages a more physical style of play rather than a fast-skating style - we'd sort of be misfits with large ice.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

It used to be De Rigueur for teams to build olympic rinks, but that was a few years ago and it seems to have fallen out of favor. The latest rinks are NHL size. Compton,( 200x90) Amsoil and Bemidji are all regulation size. Plus I don't see any advantage to it. So my vote would be no. However, an olympic practice sheet might be a good thing. Re do the D and make it that size, or build a practice facility of some sort. Otherwise, we could use the money elsewhere I think.

I feel sorry for all the Minnesota fans bragging about how the MacNaughton has "come home." Uh, no, Big Jim's Cup hasn't "come home" to Mariucci. :p

It may not be "home," but it's back where it belongs. :p

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

no no no to an Olympic sheet, unless its a practice sheet. Olympic sheets are a hockey abomination.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

hats off to Tech and pasty party they at the World Arena. the Springs and Denver area have great alumni clubs and these parties show it. Prez Mroz and his wife Gail were there (and sat with the fans during the game), our AD, several alumni, development officers also attended. tMel Skypearson attended, worked the crowd - he stopped at all the tables and introduced himself. drinks were drank and prizes handed out. information on Tech was given. a good time was had. if you are an alum or connected to Tech you can proud of "the institution"!

Again, false. :p It belongs with the rightful stewards. ;)

Agreed. I'm a little surprised there aren't more than one Olympic sheet in the UP, though I'm also surprised that the Berry went with the big sheet given where it hoped Northern's players would go.

Pffft. You don't deserve it. Only tArrogant Ones deserve it. We can lend it out, if you want.

I am not amused.

Remember it host the Olympic short track speed skating training program, which requires an Olympic sheet.

The team was the Avalanche/Wild game tonight, hopefully they didn't take any notes from the Wild.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

Aww. That was nice that an NMU alum got a goal with MTU watching. I wonder how many players cringed when the saw who scored it.

Re: MTU season thread Part 3. The Mel Sky-Pearson chronicles

So it might not be hockey related but what the h.
Last night we went to Sofia's in nyc. Just a great time and great music. the Band director, vince, goes out and finds these old 20's and 30's charts and at the gig he passes them out to the guys and they play them. perfectly. it's just really cool and not expensive.

All the sax players also play the clarinet, the violin player also plays some sort of fiddle with a big mega phone thing attached, they have a euphonium and a bass sax. The trumpet players all play the flugelhorn as well. 11 members. Behind each member is a rack of charts, with over 500 in there and vince will say, this is number 488a, and off they go. Many of these songs go at about 120 and some as high as 150, so as a musician you have to be on your toes because they really roll.

These guys won a grammy this year for their music for the HBO show Boardwalk Empire, and they are doing the Madison, Wisconsin, Jazz festival in June. You can see them every monday and tuesday live. a lot of famous people go to these things and he typically will introduce them during the evening.
