Out of curiosity, do any of you provide the same service for political pundits? I would love to know how various outlets and individuals have done for the past decade. I'm going to guess not very well...

No I am part of the group that reads it. The Uber nerds watch/read and record. I watched Collider for a few months and stopped cause they are awful.

I read all sorts of stuff like that on politics too. Your point?

I bet Collider has a better track record than many political pundits.

If you are talking about talking heads sure...if you are talking about people with actual contacts and learned in the art of politics I doubt it. I will say Collider is better than a lot of the crap out there but they are still just fanboys trying to pretend they know more than they actually do. They are like recruiting experts...they know what the recruits want them to know and their track record is spotty at best.

Put it this way, if any of these people had any real contacts and sources they wouldnt be working at Collider they would be working for a trade like Variety or The Hollywood Reporter. The trades are the only things worth really trusting and even they are often just tools of the studios and agents. It is all a game and the only way to truly win is to just step back and realize most of it is just BS :)

When you say you are keeping track of what they get wrong vs what they get right, what exactly do you mean? Box office predictions? Whether a movie will be good or not? Hard news, like Ben Affleck not being Batman anymore? Those hard news stories come from THR and Variety and the like. Saying Collider gets them wrong is more than a little disingenuous.

They aren't reporters (except Perri Nemiroff and Steve Weintraub). They're talking heads paid to entertain the viewing audience and offer their views. Jon Schnepp is a director, Ellis and Harloff are movie critics, Reilly is a screenwriter, Rocha is a voice actor and Napzok is...well, he just is. Over at Screen Junkies, none of them are reporters. They're all entertainers and movie critics. They rarely break news stories, they get the news from other sources and react to it. I don't see how people can criticize these outlets for getting it wrong. There's nothing to get wrong. They react to news, not break it.

Yes I know they are talking heads, ones I dont like or trust that is the point. You do, good for you.

I am done boring everyone else over this just accept we wont agree and move on :)

Abandoned (2015)

A boat capsized by a rogue wave. The crew went 119 days asea before somehow getting back to land. Not overly dramatic or Hollywoodized. Solid movie. Caught some real emotion in there. Worth a watch.

My Cousin Vinny:

I know, I know, a classic. Hadn't seen it in years, and frankly, it's a better movie than I remembered. The foreshadowing, the development of characters, and yes, the drama of said characters....all of it. It appears to be a light-hearted farce, and if you don't ignore all the legal liberties taken, that's what it is. If you ignore those plot holes for the sake of entertainment....grand movie. Tomei's testimony scene alone is beyond hysterical, watching the judge's and prosecutor's reactions is priceless, and Pesci, well, he's Pesci. :)

I think it's one of the funniest movies ever.

It does stand the test of time. Obviously the "two yutes" is a classic line. The north/south cultural differences also seem WAY more pronounced than when it came out. Almost caricature-like.

My Cousin Vinny is truly a great. Watched it for the first time in many years a few weeks ago. Had the same reaction. So much better than I remembered.

Get a lot of play (at least it did in the states) and mookie always put down the remote and jumped in. Can pick it up anywhere and go

Finally watched Hacksaw Ridge. That's one hell of a story.
I'm a sucker for anything WWII related and this movie emotionally for me was on par with the book (not the movie) Flags of our Fathers.

Vince Vaughn was ok, Garfield was very good.

Teens in a low income neighborhood are lured into working for a violent and dangerous drug dealer. When a new girl harboring a dark secret arrives in town, their relationship jeopardizes everything.

For me, the dark secret angle was predictable, however that wasn't the meat of the movie. It's the side effects of that girl's secret. The subplot carried more weight, frankly. Worth a watch; better than a Sat Afternoon Time Killer, but not really a must-see.

Yeah finally saw it. Shush. Some changes were made, and I initially hated them as they happened, but the payoff in the retelling was worth it. If you're easily creeped out, you aren't sleeping the night you watch this one. My only REAL beef was that it touched on the gore a little too much. The shadowing of horror is what makes really good horror. Definitely recommend and can't wait for part two.

First They Killed My Father:

Cambodian movie about a young girl and her family fighting for survival in the Khmer Rouge era. A very slow movie until the very end, and while they didn't go full-bore about the atrocities, they gave you a pretty good **** idea of what people went through. The movie realizes you don't have to show every little detail to get you to understand; the movie knows you don't have to touch on every grotesque detail to send the message. Definitely recommend.

Watched Money Monster today on the flight home.

I didn’t like it. I figured out the entire plot after about five minutes
