Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Disney is going to kill the Golden Goose at this rate.

Episodes 7-9
Rogue One
Solo
Rian Johnson trilogy
Benioff & Weiss trilogy
Doubtful.

The 18th? Somewhere around there Marvel Cinematic Universe is out next Thursday. The Reviews have been good. The Avengers comes out this Spring with the crown jewel of the franchise (the next two Avengers films) and Ant-Man and the Wasp comes out this summer and I'm probably just as excited for that as any of them. And none of that includes Captain Marvel which comes out next summer I think and of all of them that's #1 on my list to see.

As for Star Wars. There are so many stories they could do and so many ways they could go it'll never get old. Who wouldn't love to have Tolkien still alive to write another book? Who's sick of Rowling releasing Harry Potter information/movies. Sure, the audience will decline but the goose will never die.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

If it's pure mindless stupid action it could be epic.

Just. No. More. Orphans!

Orphans are the cornerstone of any story. Rowling felt that Harry had to be an orphan no matter what. Her story wouldn't work if he wasn't. And, I'm sure many other storytellers feel the same. Being an orphan gives the author a clean canvas from which to work.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

It actually isn't. Campea does some, but if you look at the titles of videos by Screen Junkies, Collider, Schmoes Know etc they're pretty straightforward. What they say is going to be in the video is what is in the video, and Collider/Screen Junkies do source information.

Besides, every form of media does click bait. Do you think the news boys hawking the New York Times were yelling about the story on road repairs on page 18? No, they were talking about the mob hit, political scandal or celebrity marriage that was on the front page, above the fold in bold type.

I have been following this stuff for years the amount of times these clowns are proven wrong on their BS is Faux News level. Sometimes they get decent info but most of the time they are one step above us in terms of knowing anything. It is an on running joke on one of the message boards I go to where we keep track of the predictions they make and how wrong they are. Latino Review, Screen Junkies, Collider...all of them.

And sorry but their "sourcing" never passes the smell test. Hell some of them have been duped so badly by sources it is amazing they show their face in public. I have seen them all fall for fake scripts (so obviously false it hurts the brain to think about) internal mole hunts and just outright misinformation. It is hilarious, except it often turns things toxic so fast it can be hard to recover.

Ultimately, "Entertainment News" is to news what wrestling is to sports. Fun to watch, but if you take it seriously and believe it you are doing it wrong.

You forgot the Kenobi movie.

To me this is great, pure fun, action, aliens, fantasy, lasers,
I dunno. What's not to like?

Kenobi isn't official yet. It was supposed to be announced at Celebration 2016 in England, then at Celebration in Orlando last April and then Kennedy herself said they had an announcement planned for D23 last summer. Then the Solo news broke and no announcement came. She still hasn't made that announcement.

Remember they're also doing a live action series for the streaming service Disney is launching next year. There will also be a new animated series to replace Rebels, also expected to be on their streaming service.

Hopefully Disney keeps the Star Wars films at once per year, at Christmas. The last three have all made over a billion dollars. Christmas is a great time of year for them. That golden goose isn't going away anytime soon.

OK, orphans are allowed, but Lucas isn't allowed to have anything to do with those scenes. Don't tell me he wasn't involved with the casino planet, that soooo had his stink all over it.

I took a chance and watched The Cloverfield Paradox tonight

It isn’t half as bad as it’s being made out to be. But it’s not great. It’s pretty average.

The f-ck? I thought it didn't start until March?

Please no spoilers; I'm on it.

The Bad Batch:

In a dystopian future, near Texas, a woman is released from prison (where prisoners are known as Bad Batches, and assigned a number). She has to navigate this world made up of Dreamers (in an area called Comfort) and cannibals (which are everywhere BUT Comfort).

There's no real direction here, it's really disjointed, lots of missing background. Pretty messed up movie. That being said, after about halfway through, I just wanted to see if the movie had a point. It does, kinda, but it takes a LONG way to get there. I probably should have been under the influence of something, legal or otherwise.

If you like taking a chance on a movie, I suppose this would fall under that category. There is a bit of an odd bonus, though. Keanu Reeves and Jim Carrey are in it, although without looking it up, no way you'd recognize Carrey. Took me a couple seconds to even place Keanu, before I slapped myself on the forehead.

The super bowl had a crafty little head fake.

First cloverfield SB ad was “coming soon”
Second cloverfield SB ad was “it’s soon. Go watch. No, we literally meant now.”

It’s getting pounded in the critic reviews. RT has the audience score hovering around 50-60%.

Great marketing on that aspect, though. I haven't seen any of the movies, so I had no interest, but I was impressed with how they rolled this one out.

You are part of a group that watches the shows, writes down what they say and keeps track - sometimes for months or even years - of whether what they say comes true? That's dedication. I doubt even the most ardent fans of Collider do that. Keep up the hard work.

Out of curiosity, do any of you provide the same service for political pundits? I would love to know how various outlets and individuals have done for the past decade. I'm going to guess not very well...

In all seriousness I wish there were metrics for pundits. My god the results would be brutal. These people are grossly incompetent and yet they are harder to drive entirely out of the business than head coaches or lefty relievers.

Can you imagine the winning percentages for folks like Dick Morris, Maureen Dowd, Meghan McCain, or Tucker Carlson? They have to be well below the Limbaugh Line. William Kristol? And that's not even getting into comedians like Hannitty, O'Reilly, Savage, and Alex Jones.

Absolutely....

I'm more giddy about that movie than the two other major May releases...

If it's even half as good as the original I will be satisfied. I would put that among the ten most enjoyable movie theater experiences not involving a handjob that I've ever had.
