Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

I mean, I liked that effect and it was cool and all, but beyond that the plot is meh and I couldn't get as in to it as others do. Not saying I thought it was bad, but after the hype it was getting I have to say I was a tad bit let down. But to each their own.

Hence me saying that the movie would be good, but not great, without that effect. Suspense of belief, and quite a few cliches take it down a notch, even if it was told well. IMO, the plot was the name on the cereal box, but that soundtrack effect was the actual contents of the movie.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

watched Mark Felt. eh. with liam starring mookie was waiting for him to kill someone :D

Borg McEnroe was very good, considering mookie couldn't understand any of the foreign languages used :)
not sure if he wants to see it with English subtitles or dubbed. enjoyed it greatly as presented.

then watched Reset. a Chinese movie produced by Jackie chan. some science woman keeps going back in time to help save her kidnapped son and correct the mistakes she makes or couldn't plan for during the limited go-backs (the machine is in it's early stages and one can't go back for more than 1hr50min or something like that). edited REALLY needs help, but not bad. that one was a reader.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Insidious: The Last Key. Blah. Not much suspense and the wife and I figured out the source of the bad juju right away which killed some of the suspense. And I wasn't expecting much.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Death Sentence:

Dad sees son killed by a gang, goes vigilante. Cliches, obviously, and the notorious theme of police not really responding when there are full-on shootouts, and complete with a wanna-be poetic ending. Meh. The "ZOMG TWISTS" of the movie are even lame. Kinda sad, when you have a somewhat decent cast involving Kevin Bacon, Kelly Preston, and John Goodman.

MAYBE worth a Saturday Afternoon Time Killer. Maybe.

Bad Day For The Cut

Irish movie, mild-mannered farmer goes apesh* after his mom is murdered. Much better vigilante movie than Death Sentence. The twists were well-done and timed out appropriately, the action and drama were executed well, etc. Worth a watch.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Saw "The Shape of Water". I'm pretty sure del Torro could make anything and I'd go see it. I f*ing love that guy. Thought this was really great.

Seeing 3 Billboards tomorrow or Thursday and Jumanji as well.

Cloud Atlas:
After 20 minutes I realized I didn't know WTeFF I was watching and shut it off. Nonsensical beret-wearing arthouse crap.

Freeway: Crack In The System:
Doc on Freeway Rick, an LA drug kingpin that happened to have the CIA/etc as one of his sources for drugs. Yep. Have learned most of the basic story over the years, in general, didn't know the "low-level" (I say that loosely) players involved. This is about one of them. Definitely recommend.

1922:
To keep his wife's inherited property, he kills her, and then consequences build up. Being a Stephen King story, yeah, there's some supernatural stuff (sorta) involved. It's kept to a bare minimum here, which pleased me greatly. That was always King's biggest detriment. Great story, then ALIENS! (or similar). Very well done, I do recommend.

Cloud atlas is great. But it’s taken me a few times through to catch everything.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

You didn’t even watch it. You basically did the most millennial thing possible when you realized you picked up a book instead of reading a tweet.

Oh, I got all of that. Heard about this movie a bit ago. I was excited to sit down and dedicate time to it. Then when it started....and kept on.....I regretted it. Horrible.

Edit: don't book/tweet me on that aspect. Try out "Red Cliff" international version or the full FULL version of "Das Boot." Just saying.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Do you two have to fight like a married couple in every thread? Just **** and be done with it already :p

And no offense but just cause critics like a movie doesnt mean it is good. I can name plenty of movies the critics loved that made me scratch my head over their findings. Critics are just people too and they have just as much chance of liking crap as anyone else.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

For the record, the full version of Das Boot is 293 minutes long. Of that, I'd say 200 minutes is non-action. And the movie is brilliant.

Edit: Handy: I can handle disagreements and discussion. Lord knows we've done it. ;) However, if we disagree, we don't necessarily think the other is wrong. There's the difference. :)

I have the full version. It's a marathon. But when you think of the casualty rates of the UBoat crews, it is a fitting tribute.

And I recommend the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven.
