Sharknado 5:

Loved the first one, even the second one. Then it became a parody of itself in the third one, and by the fourth one it ventured into "Scary Movie/Not Another Teen Movie/etc" territory, and lost a little luster. This one was full blown POS parody of a parody of a parody. Dare I say it......I'll say it......it.......nuked the fridge

Cabinet of Cagliari - Comcast Xfinity on demand only

Note: from 1962

Film noir psychological thriller. From an awesome time period for artistic, edgy films. This one totally delivers.

Caligari. Cagliari is the football squad.

Has nothing to do with the 1920 classic. I agree it is an excellent creepy movie. Written by Robert Bloch who also wrote Psycho and two terrible Star Trek episodes "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" (the one with Richard Kiel) and "Catspaw" (the one with the Enterprise as a pendant) and one of the best, "The Wolf in the Fold" (Red Jack! Red Jack! Red Jack!).

Random Trivia of the Day, if not the Year: in the final scene of Psycho when we go into Perkins' cell, the guard holding the door is...

... Ted Knight.

I think it's very daring of the Academy to nominate a movie about a woman having sex with a frog for Best Picture.

The Samaritan:

Sam L plays a grifter who is looking to go straight. His old life beckons him.

A mishmash of a couple movies, obvious ripoffs of the plots and cliches. It's too bad, some decent acting in this one, given what they had to work with. I won't give away the twist, but it is an OBVIOUS steal from another, and much better, movie and its remake. I liked it for a timekiller, and that's about it.

It is time to right an ancient wrong.

That Howard the Duck never won an Oscar is still one of the great tragedies of our time!

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Someone needs to find a way to redo Breakfast at Tiffany's too.

To do Breakfast at Tiffany's. The original is fine for what it is, but it isn't Capote.

It's frustrating because the story is so beautifully written and has a profound appreciation of how people actually work. And they handed it to well-meaning eye (and ear) candy who were lovely in their other work but completely inappropriate here.

Everybody, please read the novella. It's very short but oceans deep and time well spent.

Good news for everyone crying out for a sequel to The Shining. Mike Flanagan will direct an Akiva Goldsmith adaptation of the Stephen King novel "Doctor Sleep."

Ghost In The Shell. What a total got mess of a movie and a complete waste of Juliette Binoche.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Watched "Baby Driver" again tonight. How they infuse the soundtrack into the actual fabric of the movie is insane. So friggin' good. Without that factor, the movie is good, but not great. With that factor? Goddam this movie is awesome. The subtleties like lyrics in the graffiti, or the actors' actions timed with the music, etc....if you're a music nerd, it's a must see.

I mean, I liked that effect and it was cool and all, but beyond that the plot is meh and I couldn't get as in to it as others do. Not saying I thought it was bad, but after the hype it was getting I have to say I was a tad bit let down. But to each their own.
