Yikes. Glad I can stream it free thanks to my cable package.

I thought I heard mixed reviews of Don't Look Up, but I may give it a shot. Netflix seems to be the king of "eh, this isn't that terrible" movies with big name casts as of late.

It’s just like kep said- has some good moments and a good cast. Not likely to watch again but a decent time filler

Don't Look Up. Uneven but has very good moments. In the Loop meets Fail Safe.

I liked it. It is very cynical and very sarcastic and very much making fun of everything going on now, and it hits its points hard and blatantly and doesn't try to be subtle. So while funny, very funny at times, there's always a bit of uncomfortableness of its commentary on the current state of affairs that you can't fully ignore.

After sleeping, I like Don’t look up even more. Some of those scenes really hit. Esp as someone who spends a lot of time on climate and gets exasperated and “don’t look up” is such a literal depiction of what is happening today.

some of the scenes and casting were just too perfect

I don't care...I friggin enjoyed the hell out of Matrix: Resurrections! I would not put it on par with the first one, but I like it as much as #2 and way more than #3. I like the new characters, the new Matrix, the explanation for why they exist and the new world post war with the machines. I also enjoyed the meta nature to the story even if it did kind of beat you over the head with it. This is definitely a story that lives in this time much like the original works for that time. It definitely mocks the nature of humanity in the current world...even things like Q could be washed up in the story.

I would say 3.5-4/5.

mookie has never seen a matrix offering
never seen a lord of the rings.
watched the scene when they play the handball type game on brooms the first time in harry potter but that is in for those

First one is good -- very good in parts. Second is meh. Third is a Highlander 2-level cash grab.

never seen a lord of the rings.

First one is meh. The rest are as cliche and overwrought as MCU.

They're all infantile treacle.

I had to watch, and vocally laud, the latter two categories because I had a tween daughter at the time and I love her more than myself. I suffered so that you might live, mookie.

Confession time!

I saw Highlander 2 BEFORE I saw Highlander. Man was I confused when I finally saw the original!

Which Highlander 2?

IIRC when they did the third movie they named it Highlander 2, again, and adjured the existence of the prior second one.

Highlander (1986)
Highlander II: The Quickening (1991)
Highlander III: The Sorcerer (1995) [or Highlander: The Final Dimension]
Highlander: Endgame (2000)
Highlander: The Source (2007)

I only ever saw the first 2. The rest don't exist as far as I am concerned.

Was the Quickening the sun shield crap? And which one was the alien crap?

The first one is John Wick level stupid-good, so the detritus that followed was severely disappointing, like the Bladerunner sequel.

The series was haus frau porn but it was actually okay. Except they never had flashbacks to interesting times or places -- they missed opportunities. Whatsisname was a hoot, though. He seemed to revile every moment playing the role.

The Quickening was both the alien and the shield. Hence my confusion. I actually own the "Renegade Edition" which was the version the directors and writers wanted tomake (instead of the studio version) and it might actually be worse.

I love the first movie...and the TV show which was on in my teens.

It is true that Adrian Paul seemed to absolutely hate it. Kind of made me love it.

Yeah must be rough to be super good looking and to make out with hot international babes all the time while looking like a badass in sword fights...oh and did I mention getting paid!

I would hate it too!! ;^)

I'm halfway through Don't Look Up and half the cast is punchable, this is an on-the-nose movie.

I love it.

*edit* What a great film. It nailed it, and of course the "media" is gonna hate the accurate thrashing they took in it.

I almost missed Chris Evans cameo. Brilliant sendup of Amageddon-esque films.

Also, Jonah Hill's post credit scene was *chefs kiss*.

14 peaks on Netflix is really good.

doc on the Nepalese climber who did all 14 summits over 8000 meters in only seven months.

he climbs kanchenjunga in one day hungover. He does Everest, Lhotse and makalu in 48 hours my god.

That's been on our list as well. I can't believe someone managed to do it. It's such an incredible achievement. I can't even fathom how much that cost.

I think I did, what was it?

Wasn't he playing an actor promoting an Armageddon-like disaster film whilst "both-sidesing" the controversy by saying the national discourse had gotten too divisive? The 'Devin Peters' guy.

EDIT: Yeah, that's it.

I thought the movie was solid. A little on-the-nose with its satire, but what can I say? We live in interesting times. The worst and most confusing character for me was the Bash CEO, who was clearly too inept to be leading his own company or have anyone take him seriously, and I assume was an attempt to create an amalgamated character that spoofed both Elon Musk and Dump.

I could see elements of both Network and Primary Colors in this movie, along with topical humor from our current timeline.
