Demolition Man

Started watching it last night but dinner and some other stuff got in the way. Hadn't seen it in awhile though so I decided to look it up for a storyline refresher. Turns out it plagiarizes a Hungarian sci fi novel, a lot. But the author didn't want to put up all the fees necessary to fight the Hollywood lawyers so he never actually filed a suit.

They have the three seashells in Hungaria?

In God's Hands. Ok premise (somewhat cliched), absolutely gorgeous settings, but godawful acting and directing doom it in the end.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

Been watching some of the Eames' short films. They're beautiful. Here's a great example, about toy trains. Bernstein's specially-composed soundtrack is lovely, too.

Faults

Parents hire an expert on cults, who also deprograms cult members, to save their daughter from a cult. But who's in control?

Total mindf* of a movie. "Gone Baby Gone" is better, and more polished, but this movie deserves a look. I had no clue this movie existed, until it was suggested by Netflix, took a chance, and was NOT disappointed.

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

I finally saw Spy...I havent laughed that much in a long long time! A+!

Re: Movie Thread: New, Rental, Streaming

People underestimate Melissa McCarthy but she is brilliant. She is about a close to John Candy as you can get these days :)

Plus...Jason Statham rules!

That's an apt comparison. I'll admit it: I had never seen one of her movies and based on the trailers I never would have. I owed Dr. Mrs. Kepler a movie because I had dragged her to the 4th Riddick movie (no, I don't want to talk about it), and I loved it, and loved her in it. And as you can probably guess from some of my other reviews, I typically hate that sort of movie.

Still, my heart belongs to Aldo.

Really campy movies for sale. Some of these I spent 50 cents to watch in Pearl River,NY.

Was that a drive-in? I just missed drive-ins by about 10 years. They had great ones on LI, too. :(

I'm not sure what it says that I have seen every* one of those movies. Well, I am actually pretty sure what it says...

(edit: except Brewster McCloud)

(edit edit: never mind, I have seen it; just didn't know the name)

No it was a small theater that did horror double features on Saturday afternoon.

Watched Kingsman.

We all liked it to varying degrees - 16yo LOVED it and the wife and I liked it a lot and found it to be good cheeky entertainment.

Good movie.

Agreed on Kingsman. Enjoyed it.

Just watched Transformers: Age of Extinction...by far the biggest waste of 2:45 of my life I have had in a while. What a large piece of dog $h!t that movie was. F. And I'm normally pretty lenient on grading movies. That movie was awful.

I came away with the same impression on Transformers. I'm normally all right for a dumb, action-packed popcorn flick, but this one just didn't have anything redeeming about it at all.

It Follows. Very scary indie horror, interesting, beautifully filmed, works as both smart and creepy. A.

Good to hear. Heard it was not like your modern slasher/horror movie. I look forward to watching it.

Rob Roy:
Solid movie. Tim Roth was simply outstanding in his role. He chewed up every scene he was in.

The Aviator:
I feel shame that I hadn't seen this before, being a Scorcese movie. Leo was great, of course. His mannerisms were impeccable.
