Kick Ass was a movie I thought I would have hated, and ended up buying it the day after I saw it. KA2, however, sucked balls.

Excellent crime drama. A former cop-turned-ADA gets the case of a lifetime handed to him, and complications rise to the surface. Yes, very predictable, but the execution is beyond well done, IMO. Outstanding acting performances all around.

It was suggested at the same time as "Evidence Of Blood," and the two movies couldn't be farther (further?) apart in quality of story/acting. Andy Garcia always kind of bugged me, dunno why, but totally dug him in this.

Marvel movies are their own beast...they have their template and it works for them. Each studio needs to do things their own way or it gets stale. (DC tried to make their universe that way when they did Green Lantern and it didnt fly) The X-Men movies arent the same as Marvel either and Age of Apocalypse is going to be uber dark but they work. The new Fantastic Four is nothing like Marvel films either and as I said Daredevil is made by Marvel Studios and it is no different than any Batman film imho. (which is why people love it)

Marvel Movies are successful because they know that characters are important not just hitting specific beats to make the fanboys happy. Can't say I would say Green Lantern tried to be like Marvel. It's more like MOS but with a small attempt at humor.

F4's look is visually dark but much of what is being shown is humor. It's also not produced by Marvel but by Fox.

Never been a fan of the Xmen movies until First Class. First was alright and second had it's moments but I wish I had never seen the rest.

And again, just being dark isn't being grimdark (as a negative). Daredevil is a dark setting but it's entire tone isn't set to that and it doesn't have it's positive moments.

As I have said quite a few times we are getting a glut of these movies the next 5 years or so (like 30 big budget cbms) and the only way it wont collapse under its own weight is to have different approaches. WB wants to have their world darker because they consider their heroes a pantheon of Gods fighting to protect the world. They want consequences that matter. Marvel wants it to be more lighthearted and make sure everyone knows everything is ok. Fox just runs with he themes of X-Men...etc.

The only way it doesn't collapse is that people continue to be alright with consuming movies as series and part of a greater whole. Considering the success that bubble doesn't look to be bursting anytime soon. At least not without several VERY large flops.

As for Batman what would you do? Campy wont work as has been shown. The only other type of Batman that has existed is the Neal Adams template (true detective style Batman) which I am not sure really will work in a movie. (though Affleck signed t write/direct a Batman solo and I feel he may go this way) While I agree that Frank Miller was terrible (I hate the Dark Knight Returns) the fact is Miller is why Batman is the money machine he is now. The Batgod is the #1 character in the world across almost any medium. (his comics outsell most others, his games are huge sellers, his cartoons are always running and his last movie franchise made $3 billion with zero crossovers) We may not like it but the vast, vast, vast, vast majority of people like that. The tragic kid who becomes a demigod who stands up to supernatural and universal forces he has no control of appeals to people on a primal level. The fact that despite being a member of the JLA he distrusts them all and would kill them if needed (like in Tower of Babel) appeals to the cynic in everyone. His rogues like the Joker are beloved not just cause of their look, but because they are true archetypes of evil...and are dark side versions of Batman himself. People today want his world dark...our mileage obviously does vary.

The god **** batman can die slowly in a fire. That said, he's about the only one who gets anything decent done with him for other media. Or even made recently. So saying that he's the number one draw ignores that there really isn't any competition for him.

You're missing out on one version that ran through the DCAU shows. Stern, unyielding vigilante but can't shy away from occasionally making a joke or showing compassion. Doesn't need to be a completely paranoid nutjob who's just out to get villains off the streets. He's a rich orphan with issues, a lot of issues, not one of the demigods he's willing to go up against.

As for this movie, while it starts dark it will end differently. It is called Dawn of Justice for a reason. It is always darkest just before the dawn...the universe isnt going to be like The Avengers where everyone is cracking one liners like Iron Man does but it isnt going to be like the Nolanverse either where everyone is miserable and the heroes are hard to define either. Whether it works or not chances are the movies will make booku bucks especially overseas and lets be honest. that is all that matters. Personally I like it but I understand those that dont.

Money is all that matters.

Meh, I was tired, Trek vs. Wars was just a matter of the fingers being on autopilot. As to the Voyager/Voyageur, listening to yet another Brit accent on the show probably had me thinking of people who spell things the wrong way.

In the end that is true. As for the rest, it is all taste which is why I try and shy away from discussing it anymore. I have zero desire to see Transformers but it is getting more sequels cause obviously people go see them. Variety is the spice of life so I just hope overall people get what they want out of the movies. My opinion is mine alone

BTW I own all the seasons of BTAS along with everything else in the DCAU. I love it and if I had my choice we would get that. Of course one thing I hate about that is how weak Superman is except when he fights Darkseid. Batman should not be able to flip Superman.

That's what I would do. It's worth a try, and the essence of Batman is he is the world's best detective. He's just a complete alternative to the noir detective.

Frank Miller Neo-fascist Batman was like watching Leni Riefenstahl direct Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. It wasn't just bad, it was a sickening summation of the wrong turn America has taken since WW2. That's why Captain America was so great -- what if we could go back to The Very Moment we went wrong, and throw the switch to take the other path. Nolan's Batman was exactly the opposite: what would an American hero have looked like if the Nazis had won the war.

It would have to be made right. As I said Affleck is co-writing, directing and starring in the solo movie so if that is what he wants he can get it. There are stories to use like Long Halloween or Arkham Asylum that he could kick *** at. (AA he could make like The Town and it could be crazy...he does some moderate detective work in Gone Girl so he can pull it off)

That said Batgod stories outsell all others. It annoys me to no end but that is what people seem to want with that character. I am hoping this movie can change that cause it wont work with a Justice League film. (unless they adapt Tower of Babel...lord I hope they dont though it would probably make $2 billion cause Batman takes down the entire League) A universe with Superman doesnt need a Batgod to rule over Gotham like fascist like in the Nolanverse (and comics/games) they need a human element as a check on the God/Superman. (in the comics even Superman agrees) That seems to be where it is going, showing the differences between Superman and Batman and how combined they are better than at odds...

Well maybe that's Wonder Woman's part. B and S are battling each other, somehow Batman is not being obliterated instantly, and she pops up to knock their heads together and say knock it off.

That has been my theory since the beginning actually...it is a pretty popular idea that she acts as the mediator between the two. She has the power to do it for sure. They go all alpha male and the Amazonian Princess puts and end to that.

Demolition Man

Started watching it last night but dinner and some other stuff got in the way. Hadn't seen it in awhile though so I decided to look it up for a storyline refresher. Turns out it plagiarizes a Hungarian sci fi novel, a lot. But the author didn't want to put up all the fees necessary to fight the Hollywood lawyers so he never actually filed a suit.
