Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

So last week I saw the last Hunger Games...it was the only one I liked. In fact the more I think about it the more I like it. Unlike the other stories they let the characters breathe in this one. Sure the ending was predictable (even to me who never read the books) but seeing well rounded characters with emotions and depth was nice. Seeing the machinations of the revolution and the downfall of Snow was a lot of fun. I felt there was a purpose to almost everything that was happening.

I read some reviews and t seems people dislike the movie for the reasons I like it. I get that.

On another note check out the reviews for Creed...I really want to see that move!

Good to hear about the Hunger Games. I am debating seeing an early morning showing of that this weekend....

Man does spectre blow.

What a stupid story line

Can we toss in any more details that mean absolutely nothing?

Mookie wants his money and 150min back :(

I know you tend to post nonsense for humor's sake, but this post isn't even funny on that level.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

this movie has been out for 3 weeks + so too bad if you haven't seen it.

but the limit on "i'm your father" family tie ins is 2 movies.

ernst has been a major character in what?? 5 or 6 bond movies already. no way now when we meet him does he have a hard on to blurt out "oh, why? cause i'm your half brother". you want to drop a crazy arsed bombshell as back story on a character who we really don't know a whole lot about like mr white, have at it. but blofeld is established. over the course of his roles in 'diana rigg' and 'vegas' and 'hot japanese chicks' they have probably come close to 50min on screen, so DON'T YOU THINK THAT TIDBIT WOULD HAVE DROPPED BY NOW?!??!?!
and these recent writers have entirely screwed the pooch. with craig being an active bond and the stunts and broads this should be the best of times for bond. but the stories are for crap. they work to introduce quantum as a modern 'spectre' in craig's first movies - but now just fold this huge organization into spectre. ***!!!! why waste our time?

gee, and mookie already has the next movie. bond quit at the end of this one and is gonna marry mr white's daughter. ernst will escape and kill her. bond returns to M and hunts his half brother down. yippee!!!

like we can't come up with original plots for bond anymore? bad enough they've redone thunderball multiple times. but this is going a bit too much.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

For the record Mookie, Daniel Craig's bond ISN'T a continuation of the Connery/Lazenby/Moore/Dalton/Brosnan Bonds. It's a "reboot" where the prior twenty films are nothing more than winks and nods in the new series for long fans. Hence the much darker tone of the four films.

If anything, it's similar to how the first few Connery Bond films were (loosely) tied together: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger. The rest of the Bond canon fed off those.

My only gripe is the way in which Blofeld tortures Bond. Lazy script writing for what was a great film.

But will he buy him a delicatessen in stainless steel?

Agreed. I have read that they had to change the ending with fairly late notice, so I'm chalking it up to that. It was very disappointing, since ESB deserves to be portrayed as far more creative than that.

And this has happened before, of course, with the series of movies being itself a reboot of the series of books. In many cases (e.g., Moonraker) the movie shared nothing more with the book than the title.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

In all of these though bond was known to have been married to Diana rigg

And the first Craig I was on board with a throwback to his first assignment and becoming a double oh.

But really now. He is 50 yo and the young agent doesn't fly.

I believe that was in response to the VERY negative reaction to the "final" script that was released a year or two ago when Sony Corp. got hacked. Supposedly, the movie was very terrible on read through causing a huge uproar. Like, worse than Quantum of Solace, and worse than Live and Let Die bad.

Yep. :)

I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but now I'm sure you're just trolling. :p

Hey now. I like L&LD. Maybe my favorite of the Moores.

BTW the more Dr. Mrs. and I think about your "reboot" theory the more we like it. I must say though I'm disappointed in the reboot, not for the darkness, which I like, but because Bond is too human and too vulnerable. I prefer Bond distant and emotionally constipated.

What was so bad about the original script? What was the ending (if anyone knows)?

It's good, but the JW Peppers character just seems so... juxtaposed. Like I'm watching "Smokey and the James Bond," not "Live and Let Die." Maybe I have it confused with "The Man with the Golden Gun," but he's a terrible character no matter what. I may need to subject myself to a mini-Bond marathon to re-remember which one is worse. *edit* But I like Buford T. Justice. He fits in well with "Smokey and the Bandit." I can't explain that. Yes, I know two different people did the same riff on redneck Sheriffs.

It's not just my theory, I thought it was pretty well known that Craig's Bond was a chance to reboot the franchise into a more dark, brooding Bond to get away from the slapstick Moore/Brosnan writing. I think even Pierce Brosnan was once on record as saying that the one-liners and slapstick was too much for him. Call it the Jason Bourne effect.

According to Google searches it apparently isn't that clear and has driven the Bond fan community mad thinking about it.

It's kinda like how Adam West's Batman, Michael Keaton/Val Kilmer/George Clooney's Batman, and Christian Bale's Batman are all the same person yet not connected in a gigantic story arc.

Connery/Lazenby/Moore/Dalton/Brosnan are one long story. Daniel Craig's is the new story arc.

JW was in both of those. Him showing up in Thailand on vacation was silly but kinda worked.

Fine if they wanted to re-do bond. But don't bring back characters and change them up. The new "spectre" that quantum was with me white and the folks at tosca (which I thought was well done) can be the new bad guys. The twist to minimize all of them in the first 3 as some subset of a bigger spectre was / is dumb

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

also sad to read in there the assertion that dave bautisa "died". as kep mentioned (i think) he as a reoccuring jaws character would be great.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

I hope the Man in the High Castle trailer is just trawling for a LCD audience, because if they actually went in that direction it's going to take a steamy one all over the novel. (Then again, the novel is probably unfilmable).
