They have almost 9 hours of time, much of which literally nothing is happening. They could have used one of those sitting sessions in the forest where Male Gale and her were chatting to give a bit of back story. They could have gone deeper into the survivors and their machinations through Hippy Woody or anyone else in the Quarter Quell. They chose not to, so basically this is all one big fanwank for people who read the books.

Put it this way, my girlfriend loves the books (well the first 2) with Catching Fire being her favorite and upon re-watching it last night even she was bored! Then as she is telling me all of the things left out I realized what she was telling me was twice as interesting as the movie.

Saw Spectre last night.

It was fantastic. A few spots that were weak, but overall a great potential conclusion to the Daniel Craig era (please let there be one more Bond film in him though!).

Loved how it stood alone as it's own, yet tied the other three films up. The wink and nods to past bond films were much more subtle than Die Another Day's obvious homages.

The only film it openly borrowed from was OHMSS.

Yeah, you won't get argument from me on that. The "fanwank" angle is certainly there. One of the things about the District 13, though, is that in the first 2 books, it's a sort of myth. Outside of a very few characters who refuse to discuss it, the only thing that people know about 13 is that it used to exist and now it doesn't. They don't know why or exactly how, only that it's gone. Then in the third movie, the other characters (most importantly Katniss, as the whole story is really told through her as a first person narrative) find out that it still exists. Other characters have had plans for her, but she's been oblivious to them because she's been a very myopic character up until some point in the Mocking Jay novel, like so many teenagers are. Then she starts to see a bigger picture to the events and actually begins to assert herself rather than holding a reactionary (weak) position.

I've espoused this theory my wife and I have before, but part of the issue is that Hollywood doesn't like letting children make their own major decisions like they do in the associated books. I don't know if they think it'd be too unsettling or find it unbelievable that kids could make their own choices or what.

It was most evident in Ender's Game, but it was also present in the Harry Potter movies to an extent and it sounds like its true in the Hunger Games series as well. Certain decisions get shifted to adult characters or whitewashed, even if the final acts are done by the kids.

Both my kids read all the books and even they at 11 and 13 have been unimpressed with the films for much of the reasons provided, although without any bizarre furor. ;)

Puncture:

Two lawyers (small-time) take on Big Pharm. Based on true story (didn't know that going in). It's pretty good. Nurse gets stuck with infected needle, two smaller-time lawyers take on big pharm/hospitals because the latter won't buy a safer needle.

In my quest to endure the torture...

Mockingjay Part 1...are you effing kidding me?!?! That movie was one of the worst movies I have watched in some time. I serously think they should change the name to Mokingjay Part 1: How to Make a Movie That Rivals Matrix Revolutions in Stupidity and Bad Acting.

I honestly havent hate watched a movie this much since Hobbit 2: The Search For More Money. Jennifer Lawrence was so horrid I honestly thought even Nic Cage would laugh at her inability to emote in a relateable or believable way. Christ even Male Gale/Lesser Thor was more enjoyable than her and that guy couldnt act dead. We wont even get into how lame the "President" and "Snow" are.

Tomorrow is the final battle...I just hope when the movie is over I havent poisoned my popcorn. Methins a flask may be in order or I may not survive ;) The things you do for significant others :p

It's more so that the nurses injecting patients don't get stuck. Non-spoiler: OD patient needs a shot, nurse gets stuck, gets AIDS. Oops.

Handy: LET IT GO. It's a MOVIE. JFC. You've gone past "satire" and over-reaction to get a reaction on the internet. :p

Let what go...isnt the point of this thread to talk about the movies we watch? People vent all the time about movies in here (you included) so why should I let it go when no one else has to? Hell people said a lot more and a helluva lot worse about the Hobbit films so why is this different? I am not stalking around fuming I was posting a thought on a message board.

None of that was satire I literally said all of that to my girlfriend as the final credits rolled.

You dont have to agree with me, but I thought the movie was pure trash.

I'll agree with handy. Lawrence is great, but not in these films. Most especially mockingjay 1. Holy crap awful. I get the sense that she just can't wait until this is over.

You've gone anti-fanboy on it. Just sayin'. The current fanboy vs non-fanboy is Spectre, for example.

We get it. You hate the Hunger Games. With a passion. For legit reasons. Leave it at that. :)

I would but there are more movies...I review them as they come ;) :p

Dont worry tomorrow is the last one...until she makes me watch Harry Potter!! If those suck then I might go full on Scooby on the bit :D

I enjoyed her in Silver Linings Playbook...not so much X-Men. There are parts of these movies she is ok so maybe it is just the script.

Winter's Bone, she was awesome in, and I agree on SLP. Never saw X-Men (source material).

I will say this about Part 1, when they focused on the politics and the BS posturing in the revolution that stuff was great. Too often movies like this make revolutions look benevolent and perfect and in no way is that the truth here which I thought was excellent. The in-fighting between Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson and Phillip Seymour Hoffman about how to use the propaganda was cool. If they had sprinkled more of that throughout the movies they could have been pretty epic. I get the feeling the screenwriters didnt trust the audience to like that very much which is too bad.

Handy - I recommend the books. They're a quick read and provide more depth and story than Hollywood bothered to infuse into the movies. I think the idea of revolution lead by the disenfranchised is probably not the message Hollywood would really want to endorse when they really think about it. I read the entire series in a few days while on vacation in 2013. Enjoyable and more meaningful.

I loved J-Law in Winters' Bone and think she's passable in the X-Men movies. I don't think she had much to work with in these movies. Haven't seen SLP yet, but it's in the queue.

Looking forward to Spectre. My dad is a huge James Bond fan and I grew up watching them - though not the Brosnan ones. Enjoying Craig, but boy, was I enticed by the rumor of Idris Elba. The man can wear a suit!
