I don’t get Ferrari putting Hamilton on softs. If they were going to try to get a quick stop in they should’ve gone with hards to get a bigger offset.

Not sure either, but suspect basic survival. The Ferraris were dropping pace fast, so the change of tires held some space, even with the drop back in track position. Seeing Charles go way back at the end would probably have happened to Lewis as well had he not been able to stop an extra time late.

I prefer the F1TV crew. (And to be anal, they have nothing to do with Apple TV. Apple TV merely picks up the F1TV and Sky broadcasts. Apple doesn't add anything to the production. Also, if you watch through the F1TV app, you can also pick up the Sky broadcast by switching to it through their selection menu.)
 
Teams are using Silverstone to show off some special liveries this weekend.

McLaren is going retro, going with a white with green design to honor the first McLaren car.

Williams is going with a Union Jack inspired paint scheme for their car.

And Cadillac. Oh Cadillac. They're leaning into the heel role and are bringing a colorful Red White and Blue inspired livery to celebrate America's 250. In England.

I love it. The stars truly aligned to give an American team the opportunity to do such a thing in such a place at such a time. I refuse to let our current dipshit in chief keep us from enjoying such delicious moments. 😂
 
Kind of an interesting Silverstone. Kind of hard to pack it all in but it sure didn't end in an interesting way. Very big let down.
 
Agreed. It looked like it was going to be a shootout and then they kept the safety car out. Disappointing.

I don't think Max was happy with his car...

I also loved Antonelli's radio chatter about potentially being penalized for his "excursions" outside the track limits wrestling with the car. The Sky team kept pointing out how that penalty is more for taking advantage during racing, and shouldn't be issued when fighting the car to survive.

Unfortunately the rule doesn't differentiate a difference. Much like Lewis' 5 second penalty for just moving before the start. Neither helped, and both got the min penalty.
 
I kinda like how up their own ass the FIA is with their own rules.

Carlos Sainz has been penalized an additional lap because he... unlapped himself on pit road (because of the route the course and pit lane take), became lapped again while pitting, then unlapped himself when the lapped cars were allowed to pass the safety car.

Apparently the summer heat wave in Europe has caused F1 bloggers to hallucinate.

First it started earlier in the week when F1 fans forgot Will Buxton was working for IndyCar when he teased that big news was coming soon. It sparked fan fiction that Max was leaving RedBull because of an out clause in his contract.

Turned out, it was IndyCar news and long time Ganassi driver Scott Dixon would be changing cars and joining Arrow McLaren.

But that didn't stop the Max to McLaren rumors, with Piastri being written out by fans.

Then there was talk that Bahrain was going to be back on the schedule near the end of the year, only for Trump to go and bomb Iran and the gulf coast.

Is the silly season always this goofy in the weeks leading up to the summer break? 😂

This part was true. Liberty Media said as much. Looks like Portimao is going to be in the mix, because I don't see Qatar or Abu Dhabi able to run.
 
Rough day for some drivers looking for upgrades to help.

Lando Norris will face a 10-place grid drop for having a new power electronics unit installed, the fourth of the season, exceeding the limit.

Lance Stroll also gets tabbed with a 10-place grid drop for having a new MGU-K, which also exceeds the yearly limit.

And then Isack Hadjar. He will be starting from the Germany border after receiving a *THIRTY* place grid drop for a new gas engine, turbocharger, and exhaust system, each exceeding the yearly limit and receiving a 10-place drop each.
 
Shhh. I totally understand the drivers were playing a game of chicken and waiting to set their first qualifying laps, but let me enjoy seeing Cadillac on top the leader board AND used as a benchmark for the other drivers.

Those three purple sectors look good on Checo.

Might be worth mentioning that the Astons were TWO seconds slower than the Cadillacs! The Cadillacs were closer to pole than the Astons were to Cadillac.

Not quite, Antonelli's pole was 1:44.361.
Bottas: 1:47.823 (-3.5)
Checo: 1:47.971
Alonzo: 1:50.002 (-2.0)
Stroll: 1:50.177

But, Bottas was just 0.71 from Q2.

It will be interesting to see what the new Aston Martin car brings to the table. I forsee Cadillac actually having a race to stay out of last. I am also very pleasantly surprised that Cadillac hasn't even flirted with the 107% rule.

Remember the time Fernando Alonso had a massive grid penalty in some European race? The joke was he was going to be starting from his driveway.
